At the recommendation of our hotel, we went on this horseback riding tour. The ride up to the ranch is very bumpy, but once you get up there the scenery is beautiful! If you do the full tour, you will be served breakfast (Costa Rican style breakfast, scrambled eggs and rice and beans, very yummy!) then you will venture out on the horses. The ride up is lovely, with the horses were walking and did some trotting for a bit. When you get to the waterfalls, make sure you have a camera because the backdrop is picturesque! Then swim in the water hole and cool down in there for a few minutes. The guides are great and took pictures with my camera while I was swimming!
The ride home was a little rough for me. The horses know that they are going home (they are very smart and well trained and cared for) so my horse insisted on galloping majority of the way. Some may enjoy that, I did not. I was very scared of falling off the horse and tried to stop mine from wanting to gallop, but he saw the others galloping and followed suit. The terrain is very rocky so I was afraid of my horse slipping or of me falling off the saddle. Needless to say, I got back safely but I am not sure I would horseback ride again (due to my fears, NOT the tour itself). I am happy that I got to see the waterfalls, swimming holes and a few monkeys on the journey!
