“Don't expect a palace, but it was all we needed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

We stayed there for 3 nights in 8 bed dorm, but there were also some private rooms with couples and families (each night our room was half empty so it wasn't crowded).

The hostel from outside doesn't look very good and might be hard to find, it's a 3 story building, the hostel is on the top floor. Beds looked OK, although they are a bit noisy and shaky. There were insects. Lots of them... but it's Costa Rica, so that wasn't an issue for me.

But the best part was Mauricio - the owner. He is a super friendly and helpful guy, who helped us with our luggage and even greeted us with some ice cold drinks when we arrived. He makes tasty breakfasts and will definitely do everything to make you feel comfortable.
There is wifi, fans and the location was very good (the town itself is small, so everything is very close)

If you're looking to stay in Quepos on a budget, then I'd recommend this hostel. My biggest issue with the hostel was actually finding it, though that was my fault entirely.

The hostel is fairy small,I was staying in an 8 bed dorm. The room was big enough for the 8 beds,I didn't have any issue feeling cramped or anything like that, even with my massive rucksack.
For the most part the rooms were clean. However,I did often find pieces of leaves/dirt on my bed. They must have fallen through exposed areas of the corrugated iron roof. not a deal breaker though.

Breakfasts are included at a time that you desire, which is nice - be it 6:30 or 9:30. The breakfast is basic, but tastey. It consists of buttered bread (something much too uncommon over here in Costa Rica!), scrambled eggs and fruit. It'll keep you going until lunch.

Despite the lack of a kitchen, this issue is resolved (unless you're a fussy eater) by the owner of the hostel who offers a cooked supper for just 2000 colones, or $4. He is a very good cook. Even though I've been eating casados pretty much every day for the past 2 months while volunteering, and gotten pretty sick of them, I still thoroughly enjoyed his.

For the first night I was the only guest at the hostel which was a bit of a downer, however all the family there were friendly.
There is also pretty speedy internet if you so desire.

All in all,I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it if you're on a budget.

I only spent one night at Central Backpackers but would stay there again. What made it extra special was the dedicated service of Mauricio to ensure my stay there was extra comfortable. The rooms are very adequate and clean. The location is noisy during the day because it is on the bus route to Manuel Antonio but as the day ended, so did the noise. This little hostel is walking distance to town though you need not go out to dine. Mauricio is a great cook and will serve you dinner in tasteful eloquence. My stay there was an added bonus to my holiday.

We had a short stay at the central backpackers hostel, however we would highly recommend it! It was in a perfect location (right before the winding road to Manuel Antonio) Service was great. We had a fan in our room so our sleep was comfortable! Got to choose when we wanted breakfast as well. Great little hostel and the best value compared to those in the area and also a short drive to the beach!

We stayed there for 2 nights, and it was a really nice place in Quepos to stay. It's not far from the city center, and just next to a bus stop to go to manuel Antonio national park!
The place is owned by a nice family, and u kind of feel like home really quickly. Mauricio is there for u, whatever u need, and he's an amazing cook ;)
I will recommand it for sure!

Stayed at Central Backpackers for almost a week and would have stayed longer. Great location close to town center and on the road and bus route to Manuel Antonio NP. The beds were comfortable, the rooms and bathroom clean and the prices cheap. Breakfast and dinner were available at very cheap prices and was the best food we had in CR. For travelers on a budget there could not be a better option. Loved our stay!

Very cosy and nice hostel. We came late evening and got a bed right away. Sweet host with sweet children living among u, and serving a nice included breakfast (12$ for the whole thing :-) the room are nice and clean for the price, absolutely recommendable for the backpackers...
