We were getting into Quepos late and was very tired (about 5 hours on the road already). A little trepidation set in as we turned into a road that was flanked by small homes; we thought we were lost. About a mile into this gravel road (watch out for a couple of speed bumps which were hard to see at night and specially in the rain), we found Kayak lodge. Now to the lodge review:)
Kayak lodge is a great place to relax, take in the scenery, plants and animals. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many birds, Iguanas, different plants that was on the property. Before 6:00 AM, you can hear some of the birds and animals already inviting you to wake up. I did just that and was taking pictures before 7:00 AM (phenomenal pics of plants, birds and Iguanas). Some of the other guests were up and about getting ready for an early breakfast and kayak tours....to say that it was relaxing would be an understatement.
So if you are looking for a place to relax, take pics, kayak and just enjoy the surroundings, then you should put Kayak Lodge in your list. If you want to be in a place that is a walk away from restaurants, night life or looking for more luxury items then this is probably not a place for you.
Final thoughts: The owners were accommodating and as others have already noted very hospitable. Glenda provided us with exceptional breakfast.

-
The Kayak Lodge is a Christian family hotel, committed to the natural environment: Protected area of tropical mangrove vegetation. The hotel has 20 rooms with private bath, air conditioning, hot water, local and satellite TV, outdoor pool, parking and launch ramp for kayaks and boat. The mangrove ecosystem of Isla Damas is one of the most visited tourist sites. Nature lovers can see one of the more unusual types of vegetation on the planet, and learn the importance of this delicate ecosystem. Mangroves grow in the tide land: where salty ocean waters merge with the fresh waters of tropical rivers creating a periodically submerged forest of interlacing aerial roots. There are about 50 km of canals where you are in the habitat of a variety of tropical flora and fauna. You can see white-faced monkeys playing in the trees, shake hands with a monkey on the balcony of the hotel, the lazy sloth, iguanas, crocodiles, bats, otters, raccoons, turtles, many types of resident birds, and the anteater. Take advantage of this diverse and self-sustaining way of life, taking a kayak trip to "Isla Damas" (Ladies Island), or rent a boat to go fishing. The Jetty of the Kayak-Lodge. This service center is used by operators to bring cruise tourists arriving in Puerto Quepos to give them a boat ride through the mangroves. Souvenir and gift shop, coffee, snack of biscuits, fresh fruit and beverages available.Throughout the year we offer boat rides and kayak rental.
