“Great Day Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

My husband and I took a boat to Isla Tortuga and had a great time! Like most of the companies that do tours there from Montezuma, we got on the boat in the morning, took about a 45-minute ride to get to where we could snorkel, stopped at several snorkeling spots, and then had lunch and a few hours to relax on the island. It was blissful! There were several hammocks around the beach for us to relax in, picnic tables to eat at, and some water toys to rent (jet skis, etc.) but those seemed unnecessary. One of my favorite parts of the island itself was the abundance of wild animals! Beach pigs, beach peacocks, and beach turkeys! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the boat ride was very choppy (although fun! If you have motion sickness you will want to be prepared!) and loooong, and on the ride back everyone in the front half of the boat was completely soaked. I know we were swimming all day so it wasn't really a big deal, but it was still an uncomfortable last hour to an otherwise gorgeous, peaceful day. Despite the touristy vibes I got at first, I was quite happy with how secluded it felt. I would return to Isla Tortuga.

“Lovely island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The boat trip from Montezuma was a good start to the trip to the island - we saw lots of dolphins on the way. The beach is golden sand, water warm - a true bit of paradise.

“Great Trip with Varso Travel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Very well run trip by Varso Travel. We left from the docks in Puntarenas on time, after being welcomed with a fruit drink. A bit over an hour to the island. Snokeled and saw many fish. Back to the island for swim and lounge chair time. Lunch was excellent, ceviche, grilled marlin, rice & salad, iced tea. Back for more swimming, reading in the lounge chair. Excellent day!

Nice snorkeling. Took an excursion with Swiss Travel from our Doubletree Hotel in Puntarena. Beach requires watershoes because too much coral.

“Isla Tortuga”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Isla Tortuga is in the Nicoya Golf in the central Pacific Ocean. The island has a beautiful beach and vegetation. The only way to visit Tortuga is scheduling a tour; we did it with Calypso Cruises. It took us almost 2 hours from San Jose to get to Punta Arenas, from where the catamaran takes you to the island (about 1 ½ hour). The tourism bus picked us at the hotel at 6:15am! The tour with Calypso includes breakfast (in Puntarenas) and lunch in the island (prepared there). We did snorkeling (a boat takes you to a small cay around half a mile away), but couldn’t see much because the water was murky. There are guided visits to a “mirador” in the hills. I highly recommend this tour with Calypso, we had a great time.
