“Macaw Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

I stayed with Eddy at Cafe Oceanside, fantastic location. Now if you like birds this is the place for you. Couldn't get enough of the Macaws! Surfing is right out front with other points nearby.
Also the monkeys were right in front of the house.

My wife and I stayed in Casa Los Suenos last month. Our four-day trip was very relaxing and enjoyable. Tristan, the manager of the property, was one of the very best hosts that we have had during our trips. He even made a delicious pizza for us one evening.

In Dos Brazos we saw exotic birds such as Toucans and Macaws, went hiking on the trails and saw waterfalls along the Rio Tigre. The house had all the comforts and necessities. We loved the large deck with hammocks where we spent each evening. Two small "pulperias" (general stores) are within walking distance, so we didn't even need a car.

Congratulations to Tristan. We will always remember him.

The stay here was great and we would come back in a heartbeat. All mod cons: wired up, fridge to keep cold drinks for the hot weather, fans, range. Lots of neat nooks and crannies to curl up in and dream about moving to Costa Rica. Birding was outstanding. Roadside Hawk and Scarlet Macaws. A lek of Orange-collared Manakins only about 15 minutes uphill. Tristan and Armelle, the owners and managers, are awesome. Tristan even came across town to tell us that the water would be shut off for an hour or two because of public utility maintenance. That's going the extra step!

Highly recommended for folks wanting awesome value in the backyard of Costa Rica's wilderness crown jewel: Corcovado National Park.

We stayed at this adorable home in Dos Brazos in January 2013, on the edge of the Corcovado rainforest. The owners left fresh flowers for us and the place was spotless. It reminded us of a swiss chalet with the wooden interior and sleeping loft with mosquito net. Windows opened up for cross-breezes and the place was totally wired for comfort. 2 hammocks were perfect for star-gazing and the birds-watching on the property was great. Notables included Yellow-crowned Euphonia, Variable Seedeater, Cherrie's Tanager, Squirrel Cuckoo, White-necked Jacobin, and Streak-headed Woodcreeper. 30 minutes uphill from this property got us on the much sought after Orange-collared Manakin! Tristan, one of the owners, is full of knowledge about activities in the area and can help you find anything from zip-lining to gold-mining. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay and also got a peek at the other properties on the other side of town, both of which were fantastic as well. This place is a gem!

We stayed in Casa Los Suenos in december 2012 as part of our trip through Costa Rica. We planned to stay here 4 nights, but short after our arrival we decided to stay 6, what would have been more if we had the time.
The Casa has everything you need, a well equipped kitchen, refrigerator, good shower with hot water, nice beds and an awesome deck to chill in a hammock after a long day of hiking. The casa is literally in the middle of the jungle on the edge of a small goldminers village. From our deck we could see more birds than we saw on the rest of our trip combined. A 25 minute ride (4WD recommended/needed) to Puerto Jiminez (of which 20 minutes on a "dirt road" and there are shops, supermarkets, bakeries, nice restaurants and great excursions. The Osa Peninsula is without doubt the best part of Costa Rica.
The house of the american host, Tristan, is pretty much in your frontyard, but he respects your privacy and it didn't bother us at all. Better yet, he (and his girlfriend) proved very friendly and helpful. He'll do anything to help you have a pleasant stay. He knows what places are best to visit, what tours are nice and will help you arrange tours etc.
The only downsides would be the bad dirtroad to the casa (which if you have a 4WD wouldn't bother you after the first time really) and the absence of a good internet connection (3G keys are available but reception is pretty bad).
This was the best place we stayed in costa rica, and for this price we were amazed to be able to rent a whole house in an awesome environment. If we're returning to Costa Rica, we will sure be coming back here!

I stayed in Casa Los Suenos in August 2012 with four others. I had a truly wonderful time and would love to go back.

Casa Los Suenos is a beautiful home in the rainforest. It is in a great location - we were able to do some great hikes in the rainforest and come home to a clean and cozy home at the end of the day. Reading a book in one of the hammocks on the deck with the rainforest surrounding me was an experience I will never forget.

Tristan and Armelle were VERY helpful - from going into town and booking us a kayaking tour to hand drawing a map to a great hiking spot. They truly want you to feel at home while you are there - walking around the property, enjoying the fresh fruit that grows right on the property (they even allowed us pick it ourselves!).

Casa los Suenos lived up to its name!

I had a great time in this wonderful little house sitting on the side of the river. I was amazed to see Scarlet Macaws and Squirrel monkeys visiting in the trees around the house It is such a peaceful and beautiful setting. I really enjoyed the outside covered deck for sitting and having breakfast in the morning and relaxing at night and seeing a million stars. The two rivers that go through the little town were great places for walks and having a refreshing dip. The house was neat and clean and had everything I needed yet I felt like I was having a rainforest experience. It was nice to be able to hike and explore during the day and have such a beautiful place to return to and enjoy the warm tropical evening. A lovely, lovely place!!
