“Good value & a quick walk to the ferry, pleasant view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

This is a motel style establishment with an attached restaurant run as as a separate business. There is a newer addition facing the lagoon across a road. Both the older and newer rooms have A/C and hot water. The newer ones seemed slightly larger with 2 double beds and TV's. We stayed in one of the older rooms because it was $10 cheaper ($40) and looked like it would be quieter in terms of the music coming from the restaurant and the few cars that pass on the road. Both types of rooms appeared to be clean. Our bed was comfortable enough. In the morning there were birds to be seen in the courtyard at sunrise. The staff member we dealt with was polite and with his limited English gave us directions to a nice place to eat on the malecon a short distance away. The only negative I have to say is that NGO employees who seem to lodge here might be a little more considerate when engaging in late night chats and beers outside of their rooms.

Room Tip: The older rooms have less exposure to noise. Weekend party noise from the restaurant may be an issu...

First of all: The Lonely Planet review of the place is a bad joke. We paid 45$ for a "Ocean View" room - the ocean is an almost dried up laguna during low tide (stil inappropriate for swimming during high tide). And there is an unpaved road literally right in front of the room, on which cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs rattle past and wake you up before 5am.

One can see that the rooms must have been nice at some point, with some nice decorations and hardwood floors, but apparently, no one has been taking care of them since: The floor has holes (that are dangerous when walking in the dark), the curtain rod is bent strangely, the toilet flush breaks at the lightest touch...

Other comments:
+ room & bedsheets are reasonably clean
+ hot water
+ AC

- WiFi is only available in about a 4 foot radius from the bar
- the floor wood gives of a strange smell, so there is an electric air freshener in permanent use - if you're sensitive to this kind of stuff, it will give you a headache.
- very loud place: noises from the street (see above), the restaurant, other rooms are heard permanently

try to get a room on the water side. dinner is very good at hotel restaurant. ask owner debbie for info on other places to eat and sight see. leave passports and valuables with owner. take a copy of your passport when you leave the hotel. try anight swim at high tide right across from your room. if you are amenable to a clean cozy no frills base with all basics air cond hot shower fantastic view low price and friendly staff this is it.

This hotel has obviously gone downhill since some of the reviews were written.
The room we had was damp & ceilings full of black mold. The "suicide shower" did not work and the a/c worked, but only just, and was very noisy (like having a go-kart in the room.
One light not working and faucet coming out of the sink.
Worst of all, Beds full of bed bugs or some other form of biting insects. Also cockroaches sharing room with us.
Management admitted "I never go into the rooms".
Service: Chambermaid very pleasant, as was reception employee.
Location great, right on waterfront and close to main street.
Bar/Restaurant: (Which is leased out) Very friendly staff, excellent food, in fact the best we found in Puerto Jimenez, and quite reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Palms for a night before going to Corcovado and ended up staying for 3 nights more after our return. The people are very friendly and the prices are a great value for what you get (A/C and hot water plus real mattresses- what a treat after three days of hiking!) The outside isn't very impressive, but the rooms were just renovated - new paint, etc. Also, being on the water and in the town as well made getting to our tours very easy - no waiting for transports - just hop on a boat or into a taxi and you're there.. Thank you to The Palms for a most enjoyable stay!
