“Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I just returned from this beautiful and remote place. The Inn keepers are wonderful and generous people who made us feel special and very welcome. We saw monkeys, scarlet macaws, red-eyed tree frogs, many varieties of song birds and hummingbirds, released baby sea turtles with Katya and much more. The food was fresh, healthy and great tasting. They even kindly accommodated my special dietary needs (Gluten-free). It is well worth the trip.

Room Tip: The Tiki rooms have a hot shower. :)

I've been going to LookOut Inn for several years now and always find it extremely relaxing, fun, and enjoyable. All the cabins and rooms are different, clean, and add a wonderful atmosphere of living in a tropical tree house! Thank you Terry and Katya for being wonderful hosts to my photo group...I'll see you next year!

We just returned from a group photography trip to the Osa and the last two nights were spent at Lookout. Terry has created a unique environment with great imagination. We stayed at the top of the stairs in the Butterfly room which is open to the outdooors (a coati walked up the stairs while we are there) with netting around the bed. It is not the setting for those who are uncomfortable with the outdoors, but we thought that it was incredible to sleep right in the rain forest. The meals were delicious and bountiful--fresh mahi mahi with ginger was incredible--and special additions were made to accomodate the two gluten-free members of our group. Katya provided a highlight of our trip by taking us down to the beach to release two baby green turtles back to the sea. It was a magical moment. We saw all kinds of wildlife, and the macaws are indeed incredible in this area.

Addressing the poor review by Tripper--I don't know what you expected, but this inn is situated in a remote setting which is very hot and humid. I can't imagine how challenging it is to provide supplies enough to feed guests and do it so generously. Sometimes I think that people forget that they are in such a remote place. I found Terry and Katya to be very generous and quite honest. While our group was there, Terry changed sleeping arrangements for people upon request. I think that he would be very accomodating to any concerns that might come up if the guest mentions them while there. I would definitely go back...it was a hard place to leave!!

We just enjoyed 7 days at The Lookout Inn - it was our 4th time there and our 5th to the Osa. The Lookout Inn provides an excellent location if you are looking for easy and perfect access to the beach as well as the rainforest. Corcovado National Park is an hour's walk down the beach, "door to door" from the Lookout Inn.
I found I could just hang out on the grounds and see spectacular wildlife and views without much effort. My 16 year old son and 10 year old niece got to see a tapir close up right by the Inn. Monkeys, birds, frogs, etc are always close by! We had a wonderful family experience being able to combine total relaxation with long & short hikes in the rainforest and walks on the beach or down the road. There was something for all of us to do individually or all together - or not do if we just wanted to be in the hammock and read a book or take a siesta! The Lookout Inn was a great place to meet all of our needs - with the youngest ages ranging from 10 yrs old & 16 yrs old to in the 30s, 40s & 50s (years of age).
Given the 2 hour long slow but visually stimulating ride from Puerto Jimenez to the Lookout Inn, I totally appreciate the efforts that Katya and Terry provide their guests. I love that the staff is friendly, the meals are prepared for us three times a day and are healthy, and the atmosphere is relaxed yet attentive- Pura Vida!
One of the aspects I most enjoy is breaking from the American norms of having to be constantly entertained or always have access to lots of food. I really enjoy knowing that there are three meals a day and I should appreciate and enjoy them- that's a refreshing break of American culture and the meals are satisfying and filling. I also enjoy just absolutely relaxing at the Lookout Inn too but if I want an adventure I can easily find it.
The remote location is pure bliss for me!
Its not your Disney vacation and its not for the picky or those that must be entertained or totally catered too, instead the Osa and the Lookout are a chance to completely embrace Pura Vida with wonderful accomodations, friendly staff, accomodating Inn keepers, tasty meals, and incredible access to nature. Prepare to walk up stairs as the location is on a hillside- I embrace it as great exercise and cardio workout - but you can take your time and enjoy the gardens that surround and enhance the landscape.
Terry and Katya are easy to speak with and I have seen them and expereinces them as having always been helpful, fun, accomodating, and honest over our 4 visits to us and to other guests. The staff is always friendly. I'll go back again and again, year after year, as long as I can!

Room Tip: Any of the open air rooms are amazing! I've peeked in all of the rooms- all offer something diff...

If you're looking to be waited on every moment, this isn't the place to be, but if you want peace and natural beauty, the Lookout Inn is a must! Even the 2 hour (26 km) ride from Puerto Jiminez wasn't a concern. We crossed many rivers to get there but the Lookout's driver showed us wildlife and significant places along the way.....even a boa constrictor on the way out. Terry and Katya greeted us when we arrived and we instantly felt like family. Sleeping in the Jungle Hut, listening to the roar of the Pacific, seeing monkey's, McCaw's, iguana's, swimming in the ocean, and getting pics of blue morpho butterflies all lead to the beauty of this vacation. The food was efficiently prepared and served, and was delicious. Fresh fruit at every meal. We met people from all over the world. Katya protects sea turtles up and down the beach and we participated in digging up the babies, and releasing them into the Pacific Ocean. Hiking opportunity is limitless. Take a flashlight, as the Inn is solar powered and off the grid. We loved it, and came home rested and happy!!

Room Tip: It was humid so we were glad we had chosen an open air hut. The view was perfect as well.

Our 4th time to this special place on the Osa was just as much fun as the 1st!
We love the hosts Terry & Katya and the Inn he has created over 15 years and the meals that are included and the beach and jungle and wildlife!
We are planning our first "off-season" trip back in September to see the turtles coming to lay their eggs....
The Lookout Inn is for adventurous people who like to be as far off the beaten path as possible but still want a comfortable and fun place to stay...

Room Tip: The swing room!

We stayed one night at the Lookout Inn end of December 2012. The place is magical. One of those rare places where you feel immediately at ease and where you can forget everything. Ideal for a real break from everyday life. The isolation and charm of this lodge on a hill in the jungle contribute to it but also the warm and friendly welcome by the owners Terry and Katya.

We chose the Tiki Hut. A treat to sleep in this bungalow open to the jungle, to awaken with the sounds of the jungle and take a shower while watching the birds a few meters away. The food is excellent and plentiful, what is very appreciated in a place far away from everything. The most beautiful sight is the one offered from the main building which dominates the jungle where you can have a drink while watching the wildlife that passes before our eyes. A treat! All this certainly contributes to the atmosphere of the place where we met some lovely people in the same state of mind.

Some lodges surfing the mode “back to basics” sometimes abuse by offering poor services. Not the case here! The lodge is run very professionally, the facilities are very clean and there is no fear about food. Very appreciated as well that drinks are not overpriced, so you can enjoy a drink without fearing for the extras.

So, a wonderful place, but not for everyone. If your ideal is to have telephone, air conditioning and TV in the room, pass your way. On the contrary, if for you, the best is to be able to listen to nature and observe wildlife, the Lookout Inn is the place for you.

Our only regret is having spent only one night. Allow at least 3 nights to enjoy it.

our good ole friends from france that we all met at the lookout inn - thank you so much for visiting us and happy belated new years to you - the monkeys - scarlet macaws and even the tapir is still out & about - ands its still 88 ' F sunny tropical and humid here-- thank God for a lil wind here & there -- here is where i am going to vent some for a ''family' that spent an entire week here with all these other great reviewers during the holidays

i have been here for a bit of time now and this lodge is beautiful and the wild life and the views are great - possibly the best we are not sure why some guests have a hard time here or have food issue's and bad mouth only that and only talk abut that -- what happened to the rest of time you all had here- please tell the world the great times toooo( not only bad ) what happened to horse back riding with katya the beautiful guide-- the wonderful lagoon full of wildlife and kayaking in it early in the am''-- like katya every morning collecting baby sea turtles she has secured from pouchers thru the season and then releasing the babys to sea for all the guests and their chidren to witness.. katya does this on her time and shares her love to the community and the guests ( free of charge ) she takes the time to welcome you to her lodge as new guests and friends and that is how this place operates -- its not a regular run of the mill hotel or lodge it is family owned and operated and we share our lives with every one that enters .. the buffet is fabulous fresh salads daily -fresh home made soups - fresh home made breads and a meat dish . a white dish ( pasta-rice - or tatars ) and 2-3 fresh veggies and home made dessserts-- how can you go wrong all buffet --- breakfast * lunch & dinner -- and popcorn or chips ( SNACKS ) at 4.30 pm happy hour - and yes most of the guests that are here love and appreciate all the work and time my staff and katya endure at the end of the road - off the grid - remote - lookout inn -- i guess where i am going with this is thanks to you all that visit and enjoy your time with us and thanks a million for those who still had a great time and let trip advisor and the world know this with your reviews

there have only been a handful of people that should have gone on a cruise ship or disney but still enjoyed it here - but for those who insult or disrespect katya at check and insult her well
She Forgives you but me i am ashamed of them - shame on you -- skippy --
