“Met all our expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

I looked this hotel up before departing to Costa Rica and I was incredibly happy to find all our expectations were met! The tents were spacious, comfortable and even luxurious with a nice seperate bathroom, a river-view terrace and a big, cozy bed. You fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle and venturing up the path to the reception is an adventure at itself. What we liked best was the river; we played in it the entire afternoon like kids, climbing up and down the streams and waterfalls while looking up at the wildlife around us. It was incredibly active and romantic; outdoorsy yet comfortable! Our compliments to the kind, serviceable and down to earth management!

Room Tip: There are one or two tents that don't border the river; the owner himself in fact recommended us...

Rio Tico is located just 15 minutes of road 34, inlands, surrounded with beautiful nature and very helpful hosts. We stayed for two nights and had the feeling that we could have stayed much longer. The lodge is a stunning destination with an amazing fall (La Pavon) nearby, beaches (Ballena), walking trails, wild life and nice restaurants.

The luxurious safari tents are very comfortable, have a nice place to sit outside and a spacial bathroom. The tents keep bugs out, stayed dry, cool off at night and are made clean every day. Just perfect.

During the day you hear all kinds of nature sounds, such as the nearby river, birds and monkeys. You totally feel one with nature.

Rio Tico has earned its place as the best rated in the region. We stayed for a week using the lodge as a stepping off point for various day trips and adventures. That said, the lodge is a destination of itself with the river and incredible falls, walking trials, hikes, birds and other forest creatures, all from the doorstep.

Our hosts/owners are are fun, energetic and ready to help organize your day or solve any issue. Breakfast is excellent as are the surprising choices of places to eat within a few kilometers.

The tents are an engineering marvel. They keep out bugs, stay cool for sleeping, are roomy, comfortable, and water tight (and that aspect was well tested during our week stay). And, immaculately cleaned by the staff. We highly recommend it!

We stayed at Rio Tio Safari Lodge because a traveler we met the day before highly recommended it. She told us it was "paradise on Earth".
It turned out she was quite right.

The tent you sleep in is next to a beautiful river and waterfall.
There are beautiful flowers and butterflies everywhere.

The hosts are charming and very helpful.
In fact, they give you a flashlight so you can walk around at night, a reusable bottle of water and tell you where are the best restaurants and beaches in the area.

At this place, you experience both the comfort of a classy hotel and Costa Rica's wildlife thanks to its setting.

What an awesome experience! The safari tents were amazing, I was a little skeptical at first but seeing is believing. I slept like a baby every night, can't even do that at home. The tents (I have a hard time saying tents because they are cleaner and nicer than most hotel rooms) put you right in touch with nature. I loved drinking my coffee on the balcony and watching the exotic birds. We never had a problem with any bugs. We used bug spray one time to go hiking the trails. The trails are super cool! We got to see cappuchin and howler monkeys. Also, cawatis and all kinds of neat stuff. We went to the beach alot, I reccommend leonor beach club. The food is delicious and the owners are super accomidating. The beach is very secluded and beautiful. I really enjoyed myself on this trip and cannot wait to come back to Rio Tico Safari Lodge!

Room Tip: We were in bungalow #4. It has a view of the river. We really loved it.

This is not just sleeping in tents, but "glamping" in luxurious safari tents. Beautifull setting. Kind and lovely hosts, nothing is to much for them. Great home made breakfast. Good swimming at Pavon waterfalls. We will never forget our stay in Rio Tico Lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on "the first row" facing the river.

Very friendly owners/staff. Very helpful. The tents were so luxurious you didn't feel like you were "camping". The jungle at night lulls you to sleep and drowns out any other noises around! Quite a bumpy road to get there but worth it. Would recommend and would go back. The homemade breakfast each day is delish. Limited cellphone coverage of course, hey, you are in the jungle!

Room Tip: Scout out a few restaurant options before it gets dark at night. The owners are very helpful in this...
