Hi I stayed at solyluna back in jan 2014 and it was just perfect in every way.The cabina was clean quite set back into the jungle but felt very safe in the gated location. The wildlife was right at my doorstep and the sounds were unreal.I also traveled too other places while in costa rica but solyluna was the only place where i felt i was closest too nature.the location was Just far enough from town but not too far (I would run or bike too and from town daily).Patricia and simon where there for any ?s and were very helpfull. Dont know when but will be heading back sometime in the future. Wish I was there now!!!! OM

Soly luna was just amazing simon & Patricia were so wonderful, they took extra time to give us a map with all the best spots you might otherwise miss. We just loved all the wildlife on their beautiful property, very private and secure. We can't wait to go back.
Monkeys everywhere!!
And Lola the cat was very sweet as well

We fell in love with Sol y Luna when we first visited last year and have just returned from our second visit. I doubt that there is another spot quite like it. The two secluded bungalows sit in a beautiful jungle garden. They are perfectly designed and thoughtfully equipped, with interesting decorative touches, such as a bathroom mirror framed in branches, a shell (rather than bead) curtain at one end of the deck, and a colorful hammock, We love the simplicity of life at Sol y Luna, listening to the howler monkeys and the birds early in the morning, watching the capuchin monkeys eat our fruit scraps, waiting for visits from the resident agouti and coatimundi, and being greeted at night by a roving group of small, politely inquisitive raccoons. The owners, Patricia and Simon, are wonderful hosts who will make sure you have everything you need. If you're looking for tranquility and the sensual lushness of a beautifully landscaped garden in the jungle, Sol y Luna is the place for you.

There are not enough words to express how simply wonderful Sol y Luna is!! Our hosts Patricia & Simon greeted us at the gate with a warm welcome & assisted us with our luggage to Luna (the bungalow we stayed in for 2 glorious weeks). Your senses are immediately transported to a place of lush gardens of lovely flowers, plants and majestic trees, the sounds of birds, monkeys and other creatures and at the same time peace and tranquility overcomes you, you breathe out, be still and relax, enjoying everything your senses can absorb.

The bungalows and grounds are immaculate! Simply and creatively decorated to reflect your surroundings. We had everything we needed, we cooked many of our meals in our kitchenette, great shower and bathroom and the beds are very comfortable. The views from our terrace and windows was stunning. If you are hoping to see wildlife you are in for a treat! Everyday we were visited by the white faced monkeys, agoutis, howler monkeys, coatis, humming birds, lizards, iguanas and a family of racoons we affectionately called the "crew".

Our hosts Patricia & Simon are so kind, thoughtful, generous, creative, warm and inviting! Sharing their knowledge of the area, providing you with great maps to different places in the area, checking in with you to make sure you have everything you need. They surprised me with something that I had planned to do without on this trip yet was extremely helpful in monitoring my health. It was something so simple yet brought tears to my eyes that they went out of their way to provide me with it..my heart is filled with gratitude for their many acts of kindness. Patricia & Simon directed us to Vin the local fisherman and we purchased fresh shrimp, lobster and fish. They also arranged for us to go out snorkeling and fishing with Vin.

During our stay we rented a vehicle and went all over the place, Cobano, Malpais, Santa Theresa, and Playa Hermosa. We went snorkeling at Tortuga Island, horseback riding with Marvin ( call Marvin directly he is awesome and is amazing to his horses), definitely hike to the waterfall and seriously wear good hiking footwear that you don't mind getting a little wet. Our favourite restaurant was the Panaderia in Cabuya they have the BEST food!! Dinner on the beach..Arista(or Artista) is beautiful at sunset, Patricia & Simon will direct you to all of these places and make other recommendations for you as well.

I will admit I am in love with this area of Costa Rica and look forward to returning & spending time at Sol y Luna. It is a piece of tranquil paradise that you will want to return to.

Many, many thanks to Patricia, Simon & Lola for your hospitality, friendship and sharing your home with us and making our stay absolute heaven! We look forward to seeing you again.

Pura Vida

We had the pleasure of staying at Sol y Luna for four nights during the first week of December 2013. I cannot agree more with all of the glowing reviews. Simon and Patricia were absolutely wonderful hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable, and to ensure that we had all of the information necessary to enjoy our time in Montezuma.

In addition to their gracious hospitality, the property is simply amazing - nothing short of a tropical paradise (this was one of the primary reasons we initially selected Sol y Luna, based on photos). The beautiful tropical gardens that occupy the property were designed, and are meticulously maintained, by Patricia and Simon. As a plant enthusiast/gardener myself, I can attest to the significant dedication (and creative flair) that such gardens require. These qualities are also evident in the bungalows. We stayed in the Sol bungalow and loved everything about it. The decor is tasteful and in perfect harmony with the tranquil setting. Natural materials (beautiful woods, driftwood, shells, etc.) and soft lighting give the bungalow a warm and welcoming energy. The bed (memory foam maybe?) was very comfortable and the shower was great (hard to come by we found in CR).

Lastly, if you are interested in wildlife, Sol y Luna will not disappoint. In our short time there, we saw coatimundis, monkeys, an agouti, racoons (including the cutest babies ever), an enormous iguana and several other large lizards, and a number of really cool insects. We loved hearing the otherworldly howls of the howler monkeys in the early mornings.

I cannot recommend Sol y Luna enough. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else if we visit Montezuma again.

Thank you Simon and Patricia for sharing your home with us (and apologies for such a long overdo review)! We had a wonderful time :)

It was so wonderful to be back here and to be greeted so kindly by our amazing hosts Patricia and Simon. We stayed here 2 years ago as part of our "round the world" adventure. It was quite simply one of our special memories of the extended trip and we were both so very happy we came back. The lovely accommodation offers all you need for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. My favourite thing to do was to walk from the jungle location to the beach past the monkeys and iguanas and watch the Pelican fish at the beach (5 min walk). This is not a place for party people it is a haven to watch nature and wonder at the world around you. Our hosts are lovely people and their vision for their beautiful gardens continue to grow. The one thing that was different is now they have internet access that you can use from the cabins and our I-pad worked very well.

We also got an opportunity to see the house they now have for rent on the adjacent property - all we can share is that it is stunning and such good value and we are planning to come back to this special place in 2 years again and hope that it will be available for rent.

If you are looking for a truly wonderful place to rest and take note of the beautiful wildlife and nature SolyLuna is for you. Thanks again P and S and we will see you soon! Happy 2014:)

As so many other reviews have said, Sol y Luna was the perfect spot for our Costa Rican vacation. We were going to Montezuma in mid-November and wanted some place authentic and more isolated than a hotel. After reviewing all the amazing reviews on Sol y Luna, I email Patricia and Simon for more information. Even before we got to Costa Rica, they were incredibly helpful. We had tight travel arrangements and they helped us plan our trek from San Jose airport. Once we arrived, Simon greeted us and showed us to our lovely Luna bungalow. The bungalow is small, but perfect for a couple. We had a large bed and day bed, plenty of closet space, along with a kitchen equipped with small gas stove and a large fridge. Everything you could need was there (wine opener, espresso maker, you name it)! Additionally, the bathroom is huge, with an amazing shower with hot water that we enjoyed after long days of exploring nearby. The garden is beautiful and designed specifically for the wildlife in the area. We had a beautiful bush next to the porch that attracted humming birds and butterflies every morning. We also had visitors from other critters, including howlers and white faced monkeys.

Simon and Patricia provided us with a detailed map of the area, including recommendations on where to eat and what to see; they even set up some time for us to fish with the local fisherman. They would stop by in the morning to see if we needed anything, and even did our laundry for us! It was like staying with family.

The location of the bungalows is great. Like others have said, it is about 2 miles from either Montezuma or Cabuya. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the walk and exercise in the morning. You would run into the wildlife, or walk along the beaches and before you knew it, you were in town! Some may want to rent an ATV to get back and forth if you have any hesitations because of the distance, but it really isn't necessary. There was plenty to do in the area, we stayed for 9 nights and spent our days doing activities like zip lining, hiking or surfing, followed by relaxing on the beach or in the bungalow. It was the perfect vacation.

Thank you again, Patricia and Simon for your hospitality and your beautiful bungalows. We hope to see you again soon! Pura Vida!
