“Perfect casa for your stay in Montezuma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2011

Casa Colores was the perfect spot for our stay in Montezuma. There were 4 of us traveling (2 couples) and we could not have asked for better accommodations. We stayed in the violet house which has two rooms (a double bed and a twin bed in each) with a full kitchen, full bathroom and a HUGE front porch. The front porch had one area that could be considered the "living room" with a hammock (so comfortable, I slept in it twice), coffee table and chairs. Then the other side had a large table with bench seats that would serve as the "dining room", where we ate dinner every night. The pool is amazing, the house is well ventilated and the whole place is surrounded by beautiful landscape. Also, Reuben is amazing. He helped with almost anything we needed...from great hikes, to surf breaks, to car rentals. Casa Colores is uphill quite a bit away from the center of Montezuma. If you don't have a car, be prepared to walk about 3 miles up a steep hill. We did it few times, got a little sweaty...no big deal, just hop in the pool!! The cab rides (or rides from anyone with a car) should not ever cost you more than 2000 colones ($4 american). Have fun!!

A very special place.
We booked 5 days, extended to 8 and then to 10.
The cabins are strategically located among the trees; giving each cabin total privacy and a cool temperature in the house and porch.
We made most meals in our cabin, spent many days on the porch reading and writing and lounging in the pool. Didn't feel we needed to go anywhere - it was perfect just being there.
Reuben and Catrine were helpful when you needed them but otherwise they left you alone giving you a sense of home ownership.

Pretty little individual cabins set in lovely surroundings, rich in wildlife - particularly the howler monkeys. Was really nice to have a little kitchenette in the cabin to be able to eat in with friends - although beware of the cookers, some of which have seen better days. Gorgeous tranquill spot away from the town, but just a short drive away. Montezuma is a lovely chilled out little place and Casacolores was the ideal relaxing gettaway - spent hours just chilling in the hammocks!

I loved Casa Calores and myself and my partner have just spent the most wonderful christmas here, staying in our gorgeous red house on stilts. It's a wonderful place , with stunning gardens full of wildlife, which you can spot as you swing on your own hammock. The swimming pool is perfect, surrounded by large trees, with white faced monkeys and iguanas to observe in their natural environment.
Its a perfect option for people who like to cook themselves, as we did with our firends. Buses regularly go past, which can take you into Montezuma itself.
Catrine, Ruben, Liam and Emma and their gorgeous dogs, made us feel like part of their family and we were always on hand to help us or provide information.
I know that one day we will both return, with our children hopefully!!

This is a great place to stay - you are not in the heart of Montezuma - which can be a blessing for the lack of noise and also the slightly cooler temperature - but you are only a short walk or hitch away.
The location is great for animal watching - howler monkeys lizards, butterflies and hummingbirds are regulars - and the gheckos of course. An agouti makes an early morning trip quite often and other creatures come by from time to time. We even had a tortoise wander by one day.
The cabins are great - simple but with a kitchen and wifi and private bathroom. They are a good bargain for this town - starting at $40 for a 3 person cabin in the rainy season.
The owners are very friendly but let you get on with it while they quietly go about their business. If you need help then they are always to hand and very willing to give it. They speak both Spanish and English fluently.
Theres not much else to say - its all good!!!

I often stay in Montezuma and at one time or another I've stayed in most of the reasonably priced hotels, usually right on the ocean. I had not considered staying 1 km away unti Casa Colores was recommended. It is a fantastic bargain, and now my favorite place to stay. Jungle living in a great little Tico style casa, easy access to town and the ocean, and amongst some of the finest people I have ever had the good fortune to meet.
I can not say enough good things about Casa Colores, and the owners. One from Uruguay and the other Sweden, they are examples of how to live in Harmony and offer an extremely safe, quiet place in the jungle. Butterflies are everywhere and the monkeys are never far away. The pool is a real bonus. I've stayed in fancier places but this is by far my favorite place to stay.

You can enjoy the outdoors even when the rain is pouring down because of the clever way the cabins are designed. All meals are eaten out on the deck because that's where the table is. Every cabin also has a hammock to relax in. The monkeys and hummingbirds are right there. The owners, their children and dogs are all friendly but not in the way. Casacolores is great because it's diffiicult to find a place in this area that offers a complete kitchen and hi speed internet. The laundry service is great too. It was easy to get a taxi into any one of the nearby towns. The owner called us a taxi and the driver took us on a tour of that end of the island. We spent about an hour and he stopped at all the highlights so we could take photos.
