“Great location with friendly helpful staff and comfortable rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011 via mobile

We stayed here for 2 nights in September. The staff were great. Our room was quiet and the place felt secure. The shower was luke warm. The breakfast menu to start the day had something fresh for everyone. - as did the rest of the menu. The only down side was the sister resort Yiang Yiang closes between Sept and November so there wasn't access to a pool.

We got a last minute green season special for 45 dollars a night including a la carte breakfast and it was a great deal. The hotel is in the middle of montezuma which is a tiny village, so it was a bit noisy from the bar some nights but I didn't have any problems sleeping being tired out from all the fun things to do. The toilet in our room had a few issues with it but was all promptly fixed by the unfailingly cheerful and friendly staff. The room had a double bed and a single bed, tv, shelves and air conditioning. It was kept impeccably clean. I think another review mentioned bugs but we didn't see any anywhere, only enjoyed seeing lizards scuttling around outside!
We went to isla tortuga on a day trip which was lovely, water was pretty murky from the rainy season but to be expected! The zip line canopy is way fun and not far from montezuma. El Chorro waterfall is a long walk north along the beach and definitely worth it, just make sure you bring water and sunscreen! Everyone said that during high season montezuma is really a party town, if that's your thing.
Ps the brownie at the cafe is awesome and did I mention the staff niceness factor?

Has a last minute special for $45 including full breakfast. A fantastic deal for a lovely hotel. The sister resort has a beautiful pool area.

I stumbled into Montezuma on a day tour and decided to stay a few nights. I walked up to the desk and asked about rooms and was enchanted by the man and his wonderful service immediately. I was shown the rooms, given my pick, and he even went out of his way to get me a bigger discount because I was traveling alone.

The room had a double bed and a single bed, tv, and a bathroom with gigantic shower. The AC was powerful and remote controlled. The water was warm in the shower, but not very hot - when it's 35 degrees C out, you really don't want hot hot water.

On the main floor they have a big restaurant and patio that is delicious. I ate dinner there one night and also had the free breakfast. It was nice not to have a continental breakfast, but to be able to order off the menu like the paying customers. The food was amazing, the service very attentive and friendly. They have a movie every night on a big screen in the restaurant which was a nice relaxing way to spend the evening.

They are located right in the heart of Montezuma, right near the weekly street party. My room was in the back, so I didn't hear any of the noise. There was no view from the room, but it didn't matter. The beach is 2 minutes away.

One of the wonderful advantages of staying here is that you can use the amenities of Ylang Ylang - a 15 minute walk along the beach - without having to pay 5 times more to stay at Ylang Ylang. I took advantage and hung out at their pool and at the restaurant/bar overlooking the beautiful Montezuma beach.

All in all, this place was wonderful and the two men working at the front desk were a highlight of my trip to Costa Rica. Thanks guys!

Pros: good location, right in the middle of the small town Montezuma, and just steps away from the bar. If you stay here you are free to visit their sisterhotel called Ylang Ylang (which has a nice poolarea and a lot of wildlife for you to watch all day long as monkeys etc). Ylang Ylang is about 10-15 minutes från El sano Banano.

Cons: You here music from the bar, (had a room facing the street) the curtain didn´t prevent lights from the street. The room is simple, pretty clean but has this really nasty and dirty bed covers. The room and bathroom is very dark. There was no pressure in the showers so I couldnt wash my hair for two days. The food was very so-so and from reading other rewievs I would expected the breakfast to be much better, now it was just ok- absolutely nothing special. we also had lunch which was really bad.

For one night it probably one of the better choice in Montezuma. The frontdesk is ok, but when we ask them to call a taxi that could take us to the Montezuma Garden they told us it would be 10 dollars, so we walked 20 meter outside the hotel a grab a taxi that cost just under 4 dollars instead.

In response to your recently posted comments, we are very happy to know that you enjoyed our good location, our nice pool area and all our wonderful wildlife.

Years of hard work and dedication have allowed our El Sano Banano Village Hotel and Ylang Ylang Beach Resort to blossom into an oasis of serenity located in town and on a beachfront jungle.

We offer comfort and security in a simple form for great value. Our handmade imported bed covers are washed regularly as we maintain high housekeeping standards. We offer all forms of lights in our rooms, we are sorry they were not sufficient to your liking. Montezuma’s water company may vary in pressure, we do our best to ensure it is optimal at all moments but depend on them. Everyone’s taste buds differ; we offer a variety of handmade dishes with mainly fresh organic ingredients well appreciated by thousands of guests per year.

We are glad to hear you think it is one of the “better choices in Montezuma” as it has been rated the best choice in Montezuma by many for over 20 years: whether for one night or a whole vacation.

As for our Front Desk services we only offer safe and secure options to ensure each client enjoys a safe travelling experience with us even if sometimes this means the taxi ride is but a few dollars more. All our prices are the same as any other hotel or tour operator.

We strive on making our guests feel welcome and comfortable!

We pride ourselves on the fact that the best customer service is achievable at all moments for all guests. We appreciate guests who appreciate our tremendously hard work and years of dedication.

We sincerely apologize for the parts of your stay that you deemed unfavorable but are happy to hear that you enjoyed the rest so much! Thank you for those comments.
