“Great location, nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2011

Kudos to the photographer of their website, who made the hotel seem a lot bigger than it actually is.. my first impression was: well, this seems a bit different..

Anyway, we got to the front desk at lunch time, so the person in charge was gone, some random (security?) guy gave us access to our room by just telling him the name on the reservation. Once we got to the room (after climbing a ton of stairs.. this is certainly not an adequate hotel for any person who would have physical trouble climbing hills and stairs), we thought it was alright.. A/C and fridge worked very well.. however, we had only one shower towel (no hand towels, etc) in the bathroom and after using the toilet for the first time, sand started coming out of it. The staff was very useful, however, and they took care of this in a timely manner. The guy at the front desk was nice and the cleaning service was very good.

The pool was great.. too bad they don't specify on their website that the wifi service is only available at the pool, which would have kept me from carrying my laptop on this trip (the battery doesnt work well and there were no plugs around at all).

One thing that was certainly disappointing was our so-called "ocean view".. of course they cant do much about the trees on the beach, but trees on property are not trimmed at all, which blocked the views from our room even more.

Location can not be complained about.. the hotel is right in the center of town, which makes the need of a rental car dissappear.

All in all, El Jardín is a very good choice for the budget traveler.

Spent a couple of nights here, great local vibe in this funky beach town. We took a drive over to Mal Pais/Playa Carmen area one day, will spend a couple of nights there some day. No TV in the room if you require

We had a wonderful stay at El Jardin! The owner Estaban was very helpful with arranging tours and with everything else.

We stayed in room # 6. The rooms are basic, very very clean and the patio with a hammock was downright delightful. The grounds are beautiful kept and nothing beats soaking up in the jarcuzzi after a full day in the sun. The pool made all the difference as the beaches aren’t really great for swimming. It’s right in the village minutes away from restaurants and the beach.

There is some noise from traffic and the village, but nothing that bothered us - a price we happily paid to live so close to everything – and we woke up every morning to the sound of howling monkeys and birds singing :)
All in all we had a lovely stay and would definitely go back!

BTW: We spoke to a couple who had scouted out 6-7 other places in town, and they said that El Jardin was definitely the cleanest place they had seen.

We absolutely loved this place.

It's right in the center of montezuma. a 1 minute walk to the restaurants and shops and 2 minutes for the beach.
We had no problem with noise from the town, the only noise we heard was from the birds and howler monkeys in the garden. And thats a lovely noise!!
The pool was clean and the rooms were nice, with a great hammock.

People who give this place a bad review, are spoiled in 5 stars luxery hotels!
We loved it here and if we ever go back to montezuma, el jardin is were were gonna stay.

Room Tip: spend a little more, these rooms are more apealing

We rolled into Montezuma without a reservation anywhere and found El Jardin. The jolly gardens with private swimming pool and jacuzzi sucked us right in. Delicious coffee and bananas in the morning, free wifi, pleasant staff and great location: 2 steps from town, though you would never know it from within the room and pool. We would definitely stay another night if we weren't St. Theresa-bound!

My guide book recommended this hotel so we stayed here for two nights. We picked this hotel because it said it had a jacuzzi. Well, it does but they never turn on the heat so its freezing cold right now.

I give this two stars only because of the location and view from our balcony. Otherwise, the beds were horribly uncomfortable. The AC was not adjustable. It was either freezing cold at full blast or you had to turn it off. there were no screens on the windows so we didn't want to sleep with the windows open.

When we arrived, the bathroom was dirty and had the previous guest's trash. The shower is one temperature only and never became hot. It was lukewarm at best.

The worst part was there was some kind of animal (an iguana) that run up and down our tin roof all night long both nights. We never got any sleep.

I would recommend staying at the Sano Banano which doesn't have the view but the rooms looked more comfortable.

The staff never asked how our room was.

We take note when a customer arrives at the reception and tell us their discomfort and we work to make them feel really comfortable.
The room has air conditioning so the windows are closed and the air is remote control to regulate temperature.
We very much regret that problem with the animal that makes us is almost impossible to stop all the animals in this place that is pure mountain, but we repair the problem.
All staff of the Hotel El Jardin are the order of customers, thank you very much for your comments and we'll do all the improvements in this rooms so they are as some of the best rooms in Montezuma.

When we arrived they made a mistake and tried to charge us for 8 people when I got on the phone to mastercard to cancel any transactions with this hotel they dropped it. The rooms were dirty, and had cockroaches. It was very loud all night long and early in the morning. The only good thing was the air conditioning. The pool was ok. The service sucked! for almost 100 a night was so not worth it, there are nicer places to stay way cheaper and nicer just outside of town. The town was expensive and they rip all tourists off there.

We regret very much that you tell us that we tried to charge for 8 people, when was the customer who sent us a reservation with your personal data and requesting space for 8 people and yet to come we will cancel the reservation for 8 and we accept the new reservation only 2 people no extra charge.
Work more carefully cleaning the rooms and the spraying of cockroaches, here to be pure mountain there are many insects, but we will work on houses and rooms always have good quality,
Thank you very much for your comment.
