“Paradise, Monkeys and Sleeping in the Trees”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

We had only 1 night at the fabulous location and will return. They arranged transportation for us from Tamarindo - then picked us up in town with our luggage.

The staff were friendly and the service was great. Food was good and they didn't overprice the alcohol which was a pleasant treat. Great value.

Our room was the Tree Top Canopy (TTC) Room. At the far end of the resort, this room is 52 stairs up into the jungle overlooking the beach. It is unbelievable. We were sitting there having a drink on our own deck and a family of monkeys appeared.

The beach was amazing. When we left, they dropped us back into town to grab a water taxi to Jaco. Highly recommend Ylang Ylang for a stay. If you are coming from the main land, really consider the Water Taxi - it will save you a tonne of time and the roads getting to Montezuma are not paved making for a bumpy ride (a costa rica massage, as they say!)

Room Tip: TTC Room. 52 stairs up - but it takes you next to the monkeys!

Wife & I honeymoon'd at Ylang Ylang and were very happy with our choice. The resort is beautiful, the staff is great, and the location and excursions offer plenty to do. We stayed 4 nights in a regular room and 3 nights in the tree top canopy.

The room was clean and had neat character. It wasn't huge, but there was plenty room for the 2 of us. The tree top canopy was unique and really awesome...until the wildlife turned against us on night 3 - bats were flying around, insects seemingly multiplied in number. We even had a monkey jump onto the deck...this does not detract from the overall rating (5/5), but keep in mind when booking. If we were to come back, we'd go with "Coco Joe's" or a Beach Bungalow over the TTC.

The resort was great - awesome scenery, steps to the beach, cool wildlife everywhere. The restaurant was also excellent...every dish ranged from good - excellent. Staff was super nice and accommodating as well. There were plenty of excursions available. They were a bit pricey, but the two we did (Curu Wildlife Reserve & zip lining) were really fun. We strongly do NOT recommend hiking to El Churro waterfall...the staff, to their credit, advised us of this but we did not listen.

Overall, great place for a getaway or honeymoon...very relaxing and beautiful.

My wife and I loved Ylang Ylang. We had had a busy 2weeks in Costa Rica, and needed somewhere to relax. Perfect. The Dome on the beach was quaint and fun, with all the mod cons you need, the staff were brilliant everywhere, the pool was lovely, and restaurant great for us, serving vegetarian and a bit of fish, which suited really well. There is chicken there as well, by the way, and it's beautifully done. Add in gorgeous gardens, monkeys overhead, pelicans, frigate birds passing by, iguanas and frogs in the undergrowth. Paradise.
We will definitely try to return.

Room Tip: Domes on the beach really nice, but rooms in the jungle also looked great. I don't think you can...

There are enough reviews that rave about this place - for good reason so I'll try not say anything reduandant. We stayed in Coco Joe's bungalow - it was our best beach vacation ever, steps from the beach .. literally. We loved the uniquely natural setting, the outdoor showers, the privacy of the wilderness, the sound of ocean waves, yoga classes facing the ocean, wildlife, the food (the food .. umm) .. and on and on. Ultimately though, none of it would have mattered if not for the amazing customer service from the front desk (Cindy) to the restaurant (Sebastian/Cristian), the kitchen staff - who very patiently accommodated special meal requests for my 3-yr old son. Gabi - one of the cooks - watched our son while my wife and I took yoga classes together. Thank you EVERYONE at ylang ylang for making our vacation so memorable. We highly recommend this place.

PS> To those of you who cringe at the sight of crabs, iguanas, ants, lizards, this place is not for you. Please don't lower your rating for this resort if you didn't do your homework upfront. This is a unique property that is in perfect harmony with nature. YOU are THEIR guest - so act like it and be grateful.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the individual units. Coco Joe's was amazing but even the domes and tree houses...

There's no other way to describe it. This place was pretty much completely ideal. The location was great: a 5-10 minute walk from downtown lunch spots, on a gorgeous beach, wonderful restaurant with incredible service. I have no complaints about our stay.

If you want pure paradise, this is the place for you. The resort was gorgeous. The staff was excellent. The beach was so close I could hear the waves crashing in my room. Many different room types to choose from. The food was excellent and presented beautifully. We had an amazing vacation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

This is a beautiful hotel located right on the beach. You get all the services of a 4* resort, including daily yoga classes and a spa, in a wonderful boutique hotel atmosphere. You can walk to the town of Montezuma so you don't feel isolated. The beach bungalows are well appointed and allow to enjoy the beach to the full with their exterior showers. The gardens are truly beautiful, as well as the restaurant and terraces. Very nice and courteous staff.
The only drawback is the food. Our rate came with dinner and breakfast included, which is good as you don't have to walk to town and back in the dark, but the menu is rather limited, the dinner consists of one (rather light) maincourse and a soft drink. The food is only average and the desserts are on the heavy side.
