“Best Beach Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

I have been to Costa Rica several times and stayed at many places. Ylang Ylang Beach Resort is by far the best place to stay in Costa Rica. There are so many things to do in the little town of Montezuma, just up the Beach, that you do not have to drive all over Costa Rica to find something for the whole family to enjoy. Everything is right there from Horseback riding on the beach, hiking up to waterfalls, snorkeling, scuba diving, 4-wheeler tours, deep sea fishing or just relaxing at Ylang Ylang's beautiful swimming pool. My husband and I are in our very active 60's and we could do it all.
Ylang Ylang has the most awesome food i have ever eaten and great outdoor atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. If you like being waited on this is the place for you.

Paradise! Our third year in a row coming to Ylang ylang beach resort. It hurts to think we have to wait a hear to come back. Amazing owners and professional staff at a 5 star (in our opinion), resort where we feel like family. Travelled all our life so that we could discover different experiences. Montezuma has everything we need! We own catering business and work very long hard hours all year, and this is our reward. Thank you to the owners/family, and the entire staff for once again a perfect vacation. See you in just less than a year.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Ylang Ylang Beach Resort in February 2014. The entire experience was amazing! We had lunch at their sister hotel El Sano Bano in the village, and then were whisked by high end SUV through the village and along the beach approach to Ylang Ylang. It was mysterious and breathtaking and first impressions were magical! We stayed in beach front bungalow Dome #1, it was filled with character an charm (reminiscent of a hobbit house), the views were amazing, terrific patio with comfortable furniture and very private. The pool was steps away (no noise from it though) and the water was warm and inviting with a cascading waterfall feature. The grounds are amazing and the beach beautiful. Not recommeded to swim out front as the waves are quite large, but my husband and I did sunrise wave jumping on our second morning when it was calmer. We highly recommend this property as a unique boutique style hotel which oozes charm, character and amazing service!

Room Tip: Beachfront Dome1 is close to everything, yet still very private.

My wife and 2 friends went to MONTEZUMA and stayed at Ylang Ylang resort. I have been all over Costa Rica and this is one of my favorite places to stay.. MONTEZUMA is a great small town not like a lot of other tourist towns in Costa Rica . The resort is not accessible by car . You are picked up in town by a range rover and driven down the beach to the resort they have a special permit to drive on the sand to there resort. There was so many monkeys and other animals in the jungle right in front of our bungalos. Monkeys on our patio. The accommodations were very nice and the food was great. This is probably not a place that people that are use to staying at the 4 seasons would want to come to. But at that I would say you should not be in Costa Rica. You are there for Pura VIda as the Costa Ricans say. The bungalows are air conditioned and there is a nice pool with waterfall. You can get a bungalow up in the forest or a beach bungalow. I would recommend the jungle and you can see the ocean a little also

We spent 4 nights in February. We stayed both in a cottage--Coco Joe's--and in a Dome. The cottage, tucked into the forest, was large and comfortable with a large porch and an outdoor shower which was very refreshing. We had a view of the beach and our own hammocks. The Dome was smaller, but still quite comfortable. We had an indoor and an outdoor shower here. Both breakfast and candlelit dinners are included in the room price. The menu for both is extensive and well-prepared. There is a pool with a refreshing waterfall and the property has easy beach accessibility--walk out of your room, down a short path and onto the beach. It is an easy, but hot, walk to the town of Montezuma for shopping and lunching. One warning. Do not try to drive to this hotel! Our driver tried and got stuck in the sand. Go to Sano Banano, a sister hotel and restaurant in Montezuma, call Ylang Ylang, and they will come pick you up in their Land Rover. In short, this was an excellent place to stay, and the "green" philosophy of the owners added to the ambience.

Room Tip: Choose a dome or cottage with a beach view and direct access to the beach.

My wife and I have travelled extensively over our 32 years together, but never have we had the pleasure of staying anywhere like Ylang Ylang. At first it seemed a bit out of our price range, but we decided to splurge for our last few days in Costa Rica. It felt like we died and went to heaven! We had a little dome with a private beach, which we could see from our bed. We were lulled to sleep by the ocean. We had frequent visits from monkeys. As a retired solar engineer, I really appreciated that YY is partly solar powered. We took several yoga classes from Diane which were wonderful. Maybe the best feature was the restaurant which served awesome gourmet meals (breakfast and dinner were included in the price). This way easily the best place we have ever stayed. Hope to return soon.

This review is long overdue, better late than never. My husband and I got married there in December 2012 and it was truly amazing! We will absolutely return as often as possible.

This place is really beautiful and the wait staff is exceptional, especially Harold. He knew all the guests name the day after we arrived! The restaurant is delicious and comes with the room price! I thought the portions were generous and liked everything I ate. The ingredients were all fresh including the amazing fish on the menu. This place is really not that expensive when you consider the extensive breakfast and dinner prices that you would otherwise be spending.

The property is also BEAUTIFUL, seriously and I have stayed at a lot of hotels. We booked the beach bungalow for 8 days, and did not want to leave. The cleaning staff is also amazing, they would sprinkle fresh flower petals on the bed and make animals out of the towels. The entire property was very clean and well kept and attended to, Moraya was a great wedding coordinator etc. He was really fast to respond to all emails and did a great job coordinating everything. All i did was show up and everything was taken care of!

My only suggestion to them is that they lower their alcohol rates for a wedding group price, we were charged $9/per drink/shot/beer and that added up even with 22 heavy drinkers.

Counting down the days til we can go back!
