“Cabanas under the monkeys”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

We loved Hotel Los Mangos. We had separate bungalos with their own front porches for sitting and enjoying the outdoors. The pool overlooks the bay, which is great for a dip when the tide isnt cooperating. There are monkeys everywhere tossing mangos at each other and playing around which is always entertaining too.

We stayed here for a few nights in a room with shared bathroom & thought it was great value. The price was the cheapest we could find in town for somewhere with a pool.
The pool was fantastic, although had to dodge the mango throwing monkeys :) and as most of the other guests seemed to be there for yoga (which we were not) so had it to ourselves most of the time.
The room was sufficient, had a view overlooking the water with rocking chairs to relax on the balcony, not too hot with the ocean breeze & the bathroom was share with only 1 other room.
The owner was also really friendly.
Note: Wifi is only available right by the reception area. Motezumas has some great places to eat, I would definatly recommend Pugos.

Room Tip: We thought the normal rooms were great value

We stayed in the bungalows which were very quaint and perfect. The bungalows are equipped with just the basics: Two beds, two towels changed out daily, a wardrobe, a safe, and a mini fridge, and bathroom. The mini fridge was definitely very useful since it was 100 degrees outside. The only downside was that there was only one fan in the room and two beds. So it was hard to position the fan so that it hit both beds. We did the Montezuma yoga and surf package which included breakfast. The yoga studio was so beautiful overlooking the ocean. The teachers were very experienced. And the breakfast was way better than we expected. Fresh juices, eggs, crepes, fruit, etc. The only thing about the surfing was that you had to hike 45 min down the beach climbing rocks to get there. So make sure you bring a good pair of sneakers. Montezuma is a perfect little beach town. We totally enjoyed talking to the locals and dining at all the restaurants in town.

We stayed here for eight nights and used Los Mangos as our base to see the southern part of the Nicoya Penninsula. The cabinas were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool is beautiful and looks out over the ocean. The beach is right across the road and town is an easy 5 minute walk. Every afternoon a troop of monkeys would move down off of the mountain through the mango grove and provided some great photo ops. We were a bit startled one night when it sounded like something was tearing through the roof of our cabina. We went outside to investigate and discovered an ant eater tearing into a termite nest in the tree right next to our cabina. He was not perturbed at all by our flashlights and went busily along slurping up termites.

The Montezuma waterfalls are almost right next door and an easy hike. The pools below the falls were cool and refreshing. Being a bit of a foodie, we found the restaurants to be excellent! Highly recommend Artistas, right across the road ! You can dine literally on the beach. Watch out for the hermit crabs just after dark!

The owner of Los Mangos is named Kostas and was very informative about the local sites. Wifi is advertised as only being at the reception cabina, but we found we had access on the deck of our cabina most of the time.

All in all a great experience!

Room Tip: The cabinas are spaced out along the hillside and shady.

Stunning, tropical and a short walk on the beach to get to town. You won't regret staying in this hotel or choosing Montezuma. The yoga classes were bliss! The staff were friendly and accomodating. Loved it!

We drove to Montezuma to see the Waterfalls with no accommodations booked. We drove past and thought it looked like a neat place to stay, so we did! The beauty of travelling in the low season is availability and lower prices.

We loved our stay, as I had picked up some virus it was a great place to recover with the sea breeze coming through the windows and no noisy distractions were around. The views were great and the rocking chairs and hammocks were another great way to relax.

The dim lighting was for Eco purposes but it'd be nice to be able to adjust it at night. Wifi in the rooms 24/7 would've been nice but it made it easier to enjoy some quiet and be disconnected. It is a walk into town but it's not far, the beach makes it a shorter one.

The owner was super friendly and the property was gorgeous. Highly recommend this place!

Pros: Monkeys and other wildlife are abundant on the property grounds. Bungalows are built up on the hills and have a nice fresh breeze going through them. The porch on the bungalow has rocking chairs and a hammock, great place to relax and watch the waves of the ocean through the palm trees. Hotel is located a 10 minute walk from town, so no noise from the bars and parties. The pool was clean and had a view of the ocean, however the waterfall was not working...

Cons: Beds are extremely uncomfortable; I would wake up at 5:30am every morning just because I could not lay on that mattress any longer! No hand towels or other amenities are provided except for a normal towel and a small bar of soap. Lighting in the bungalow is very dim. When I read the description, I imagined the bungalows actually on the beach, but they are set across the road from the beach, up the hill, it is about a 2 minute walk. WiFi signal only reaches the reception area and they turn it off at night; so if you need internet access anytime between 8pm to 8am, you are out of luck! They do not have coffee pots, or any other food/drink items available at all; so if you want coffee or a bottle of water it is 10 minute walk into town. The grounds were in need of cleaning, lots of leaves piled around and the grass was dry and dead.

Overall: I enjoyed my stay and would probably return!

Room Tip: The main hotel is a basic cheap place, the bungalows are much more private and feel cozy.
