“Beautiful family run accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012 via mobile

The bungalow we stayed it was beautiful, with stunning views of the ocean and rainforest. You could hear the waterfalls from our room. The place was very clean and very nicely laid out. The family that ran the accommodation were so lovely and extremely helpful. And it was excellent value for money.

We're back from a several week tour of northwest Costa Rica, and Montezuma and Agua Vista were our favorite part of the trip. We stayed in Casa Morpho, and it suited our family of three perfectly. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The outdoor living space was wonderful--I enjoyed reading morning and evenings on the outside couch, we ate our dinners on the outside dining table, my daughter fell asleep after busy days in the hammock, and the plunge pool was amazing. Despite the heat and humidity, the fans above the beds kept us perfectly cool at night. Our day at the waterfall was my husband's favorite in Costa Rica. The wildlife around our casita was abundant--we had to shut our door one morning to keep the coati out! Finally, better hosts couldn't be found than Alex and Khalida. Our trip was originally planned for June, but when my daughter broke her collarbone several days before our trip, Khalida responded quickly and was so thoughtful and helpful in allowing us to rebook for dates a month later. We enjoyed chatting with them daily and they made us feel perfectly at home. Our daughter loved swimming in their big pool, too! Even though it was our first stop and we were anxious to see more of Costa Rica, we couldn't help but extend our stay by another night. We highly recommend Agua Vista!

Room Tip: Casa Morpho was my favorite!

We stayed in Casa Morpho and had a great time. The view is amazing, the house is perfect, and the hosts are warm and welcoming! We spent more time than we expected just sitting in the hammock or couch on the porch enjoying the view, playing cards, and laughing. And the price can't be beat... would come back in a heartbeat.

We just came back from a trip to Montezuma where we stayed in Agua Vista on the top of the hill off the village. When we arrived we were first hesitant because the road to the hotel area is quite bumpy, but don't be misguided by this road.. we arrived at this magical place around 1 PM and chilled by the infinity pool for a while watching the amazing sea sight. At this time we were not only greeted by our lovely hosts Alex and Khalida but also by Coati's, Agouti's several howler monkeys, a great amount of butterflies and spectacular birds. I think, I saw more animals in this hour than in my whole 3 month stay in Costa Rica. We enjoyed this place so much we are going back next week!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Carriblanco house which is very big, has amazing sea sight and has A/C.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Montezuma. Our little house (Blue Morpho) was perfect! The personal pool was a fun way to occasionally unwind with a beer and the outdoor shower was pretty cool too. Everything was well appointed; we had everything to cook a meal and even got a little Costa Rican goodie basket on our arrival. Alex and Khalida went out of their way to make sure our fridge was stocked with beverages (since it was a non-alcoholic holiday weekend) and even gave us fresh mangos every day. I loved that we were so close to the falls and were visited each day by coatis and monkeys. It was the ideal location, just a short trip down the road to the town, but far enough away that everything felt private and quiet. Thank you so much for offering such a wonderful place for us to stay!

It's an easy thing to fall in love with this tiny beach town, but with such great hosts as Alex and Khalida it'll make you never want to leave. The view from the bungalo is spectacularly breathtaking, and their garden attracts the craziest amounts of butterflies we've ever seen (along with flocks of hummingbirds!). Small and quaint, yet rich and complex, this gem known as Aqua Vista serves as the perfect getaway for anyone wanting rest and relaxation, or fun and excitement. There is plenty to do here including hike down to the waterfalls that are super close by. Love this place we will definitely return.

What an amazing place Cariblanco was to stay. In our month-long Costa Rican journey, Agua Vista was both my husband's and my favorite place we stayed. So glad we booked an entire week with you guys! From the moment we walked in we knew we were in paradise. The hibiscus blooms all over felt so welcoming. Cariblanco was bright, open, and spacious. The views were spectacular. Even the one day it rained there was so much to see and do just watching the creatures and the weather change right from our front porch. Loved how the house was designed to make the beautiful front porch just part of the house. Every day we were there we had the large patio doors fully open letting the "wild" in. Had been concerned about bugs, but the ones we saw were simply fascinating (like the praying mantis on the porch) and not irritating at all.

I was about to write "but my favorite part of Agua Vista was..." then realized I cannot select one single "favorite"! Coming back from a sweaty day exploring the surrounding area and then enjoying the infinity pool at night, under the amazing stars, as bats zip around keeping us bug free and enjoying sips from the pool? Well, that is certainly one favorite! Seeing the amazing wildlife in the "dead" tree smack in the middle of the view from the porch... I came to love that tree as we watched troupes of monkeys use that tree as a bridge from "here" to "there" almost daily.... as we watched them stop and groom each other... as we watched more birds than we knew names for rest in those bare branches, their colors magnificent against the brilliant blue sky... as we watched the beautiful variegated squirrels race along the branches leaping, jumping, playing with great abandon... yep, came to love that "dead" tree. Wish I were there to see it leaf out and be stunning as I image it will be in the "next" season. Pure glory.

Since we had no car, we really enjoyed our walks along the road from Agua Vista down to Montezuma. Taxiing in the first time the road seemed so long and so far away, but it was not. A short 15 minute walk to the bus stop on the main road... a quick 30 minute walk (total) into town with visual adventures every step of the way (we saw horses, huge lumbering iguanas, amazing flowers, interesting bugs, incredible vistas to name a few). And taking our taxis back at night... as we turned onto the dirt road, it felt like we were "coming home". And the taxi drivers in Montezuma all knew "Agua Vista" so getting back was never an issue. What luxury!

And our hosts... perfect. We knew Alex was there if we needed him, and appreciated the casual waves as we taxied "home" or walked by on our way out during the day. Always a smile and so welcoming. Talking about how and where to see kinkajous... his sharing of what turned out to be our first sighting of howler monkeys... Hearing the kids playing and enjoying their home, their paradise... perfect.

And the wildlife. During our stay they were most active from 5-7 in the morning and 4-5 at night. We'd see agoutis delicately prancing through the yard along with coatis who came with such regularity we came to call one tree "the coati tree" since it seemed to be their entry into the surrounding vegetation canopy. And the adorable white-faced monkeys for which I suspect Cariblanco is named. Unbelievable to have the opportunity to safely, consistently, and with joy be able to watch wildlife be wild. Incredibly special. Also enjoyed the butterflies and hummingbirds brought in by the amazing flowers decorating the property. You guys thought of everything!

And if you are looking for continued connection to the rest of the world, I have to say I really enjoyed lying in the hammock, watching the wildlife world go by, while working on my laptop, connected to the rest of the world via pretty good internet connection. If one has to work, this is the way (and place) to do it.

So what can I say... we loved our time at Agua Vista and would return there again in a heartbeat. It was the best of what Costa Rica has to offer with true welcome and warmth plus views one could never tire of. Thank you, Alex and Khalida, for spoiling us by inviting us to share your home. Powerful experience.
