I do not believe I have ever been in a hotel room darker than the one in Villa Verde. It was literally impossible to read.
There was a TV in the room. After trying to view some channels I asked why I could not get any reception. They told me the TV was not for tv channels but only for DVDs. There was in fact a little DVD player, but DVDs were not to be found anywhere in the hotel. The room had a kitchenette. But ALL the cupboards were empy, not a glass, not a cup, not a spoon etc. The room had a refrigerator. Great I think. I will put my son's milk in there. He tries to drink it few hours later and it is frozen. The hotel had a snack bar, a separate building that according to the sign should open at 5:00 pm till 10:00 pm. We go there to check it out at around 7 and there is nothing there. Only a broken ping-pong table (no net, no balls etc) and a tv turned on. A run down bar with nothing in it (no bottles, glasses etc).
The toilet broke during the night (was fixed by someone while we were out). It looked like the whole place had been deserted years ago, although there were few other guests.
We payed 94 dollars per night. We would never go back and I would not recommend this to anybody

I really enjoyed my stay at the Villa Verde. We stayed in a villa, where there was a great, furnished living area and kitchen (with coffee maker, glasses, and fridge). The bedroom slept 5 people and the bathroom was pretty spacious with hot water.

There were quite a few ants crawling on the walls, but after living in Costa Rica for two years, I've realized you have to deal with it (especially when you're in the rainforest...there's no escaping them!).

The food was pretty good, especially the buffet lunch & dinners. Most of all, the staff was amazing and I still keep in contact with a few friends I made while I stayed there.

I'd stay there again and would recommend it to anyone going to Monteverde!

We stayed here for two nights. The stench from the bathroom was so bad my 12 year old wouldn't use it. Very dark,damp and cold rooms. Food was terrible. They gave us frozen pizza for dinner. Did lots of hiking just to stay out of the room.

Pluses--this hotel is really close to MOnteverde Cloud Forest and it has a wonderful dining room. But the rooms had large holes in the window screens, broken jalousie windows, no bedside lighting (just 1 overhead)in room coffee maker with no coffee and chipped mugs and curtains & rod that fell off wall when I tried to close it. Lots hot water...but no cold...this was fixed. We felt like we were back at summer camp
