We went to visit this place because it was close to the hotel - Please note, though, this is not the same Butterfly Garden that also has a Ranario. So there is no combination to visit the Ranario to see the frogs. That particular butterfly garden is more in the main town of Monteverde, near the Serpentario.
That said, we got to see Butterflies and Insects, and were given lots of in-depth information from the very enthusiastic student volunteers who work there. We must have been there on a good day for the butterflies because they were out in force. I experienced a little frustration because taking a picture of that Blue Morpho is futile. They are way too fluttery! But they are very beautiful in flight.
I have to say, I do not, in general, love insects. But after this tour, I don't feel as frozen in terror by most of them now, because I learned so much about them and what they actually do. But you will see lots of insects, up close, on the arms and hands of the volunteers, some of them quite large, so be prepared if you go.
I'm a grown up and had a blast, but I would imagine that kids would really enjoy this place, too.
