We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The location of this hotel was perfect. It's close to everything. Taxi-ride was cheap and it could take you everywhere. The room was clean and the building was well-maintained. You could use the internet at the reception desk free-of-charge. Of course, there was an 1-hr limit and there was only 1 station. Hotel staff was friendly. We especially liked the restaurant of the hotel. The food was very delicious and it's highly recommended. The hotel is very close to the butterfly garden (10-min walk). It's a very nice garden. It's worth to spend a couple of hours there to see different kinds of beautiful butterflies.

I have had the pleasure of dining at the De Lucia Restaurant on 4 trips and have twice stayed in the hotel. The hotel is small - a dozen rooms. The rooms have always been clean and comfortable. There are several beautiful flowers to photograph on the grounds. There is a small field in front of the hotel where my groups (families and students) have played soccer or kicked a footbag with the children of the hotel owner.

Monteverde has a great deal of US influence from settlers during WWII. This influnce has lead to bi-lingual schools in the area. The staff I have encountered at De Lucia speak very good English and have been kind and courteous as I try to speak Spanish. The younger children have been willing to discuss their schooling with the students on my trips. It has been a great opportunity to build relations with these neighbors in Costa Rica.

Whether you are staying in the hotel or not, I highly recommend the restaurant. Evening meals are delicious and filling. The owner is Chilean and Chilean influences are noticeable in the food and wine selection. I've never had a bad meal here - breakfast and dinner. And the prices are very reasonable.

A short walk down the road takes you to a great overlook and garden spot. (There is a small fee - this is not part of the hotel)

The hotel was affordable and in a good location in Monteverde. The cedar walls were a nice touch. However....the walls were very thin- we could hear people in the next room clearly. There were only 2 very small windows that opened, which left very little ventilation. During the day, the room was stifling. The front-desk staff was missing half the time and not very helpful the other half. One of the attendants had no idea what we were talking about when we asked about the Monteverde Cloud Forest.

We paid 50 USD for a double in the new section, in cash, which included tax and breakfast. The room was newly constructed and smelled nicely of cedar wood. Bathroom was well equiped with ample hotwater, lighting, outlets, mirror.

As mentioned, breakfast was included across the street at the excellent restaurant bearing the same name. Fruit and cereal; eggs cooked to order, etc. You won't leave hungry.

We also had dinner at the restaurant which is in the Chilean steakhouse style (they have vegetarian too). Quite good and 2 can eat well for $25 USD.

Location is just pass Santa Elena down a side street (signed). No complaints although we did hear the people in the next room quite loudly once during the middle of the day. So the walls must be quite thin and this could be a problem if the noise was during the night, etc.
