“Sloths, olingos, coatis, insects the lot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

This is a MUST DO activity in Santa Elena. Groups are max 8-10, there are multiple guides all in walkie-talkie contact with each other so if one sees something all the groups get to see it.

We got a discount for this trip as we were staying at the Pension Santa Elena ($20 pp instead of $22 pp).

Our guide Bernal was very knowledgeable about everything we saw which was great.

The night we went we saw:
An oingo, coati, kinkajou, sloths, tarantulas, lizards, sleeping birds, hairy porcupine and a snake. Brilliant!

“sometimes, they only come out at night...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

After going on several tours & sanctuaries, it was a refreshing twist to go on a night tour. Many creatures are nocturnal and will often only be seen at night. They did a nice job at this reserve, provided small flashlights, and was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend doing this with a guide, you'll see sooooooo much more with someone who knows where to look.

“Best organize tour jsu for few bucks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

I can honestly recommend this tour which I decided to take. I paid 20$ for this 2 ½ tour, I was picked up around 5:30 in the hostel and at 6:00 PM we started the tour with our very friendly but most knowledgable guide who spopke fluently English thanks to whom we were able to spot many animals such as sloth (even with a baby, toucans, blue crowned memot, walking stick, coati, many green frogs, tarantulas and raccoon. It was fun even thought sometimes we just run trough the dark wood just with our torch to see animals. After zip lining the second best attraction in Monteverde.

“Great tour for a great price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

My husband and I decided to do this night tour during our stay in Monteverde. I am so glad we did! The evening started out a little rainy but we had on our rain gear and were ready to go. We paid the fee ($22USD each), bought a bottle of water, were provided with flashlights ( thankfully as I had left our headlamps in our hotel) and teamed up with our guide for our 2 hour hike. We were the only 2 people in our group!
As the evening progressed the rain fell harder and the wind picked up. We felt that while this might have slightly hindered our chances of seeing wildlife, it added to our experience. And, as an added bonus, we seen plenty! Sloths, huge insects, a tarantula, a viper snake...it was a wonderful evening and definitely worth the money! Would recommend to anyone. Bring good boots/ hiking shoes and clothes that can get muddy. We were a mess when we got back to the hotel. This was one if the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica!

“Great night tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

This was a really fun experience! Running through the cloud forest in the dark with flashlights and seven or eight other people accompanied by a charismatic guide determined to find as many animals as he can. There were several tours that went out, but all the guides had walkie talkies so if they found something cool, the rest of the guides would know where to go. We saw a tarantula, a giant stick bug, a grey fox, a green viper (the most venomous in the country -- luckily this one was way up in a tree, and best of all, a sloth mother and her baby at the very end of the tour. I had a fantastic time and would definitely do it again.
