“Glad we didn't listen to the travel agent!”

My new husband and I just returned from our 12 day honeymoon in Costa Rica. We wanted to pack in as much adventure as possible so we spent a lot of time researching adventure companies online. We came across Vista Golfo Adventure Park on tripadvisor and he fell in love with the idea of zip lines over waterfalls, something we didn't find anywhere else. When we brought it up to the travel agent, he informed us that Vista Golfo caters to cruise ships so it's very crowded and not the authentic Costa Rican experience we were looking for. He also said the drive was too far out of our way (we rented a car for the trip and were traveling from Tamarindo to Monte Verde). However, after reading the reviews on tripadvisor we decided to go for it anyway. When we told the travel agent of this decision, he admitted he had never actually been there and asked us to report back and let him know how it was!

Were there cruise ship customers there? Yes, there were, but we made reservations in advance and it was no more or less crowded than any other excursion company we visited. We had a great time talking to other travelers and hearing of their experiences regardless of how they got there.

Was it a long drive? I guess that depends on how you define "long drive". We made it from the Tamarindo area in under 2 hours, which was much less time than we expected. We saw some beautiful scenery along the way and quite enjoyed the trip. The very last part of the drive is a little scary, up a mountain on a dirt road, but if you drive around Costa Rica for very long you realize a lot of the roads are like that. Look at it as an adventure!

Was it worth it? Absolutely. Before our trip was over we did zip lines at Adventure Golfo, in Monte Verde, and in Arenal. It would be impossible for me to say that one was better than the others because they were all very different. What AG offers that no one else has it the waterfalls. You're actually in the forest instead of above it and it's beautiful. Also, because you're not above the canopy it doesn't feel like you are as high as the zip lines in other areas. You probably won't notice this if heights don't bother you but it's a bonus if heights make you nervous. I also felt like I experienced the forest more this way, instead of looking down on a canopy of green. We saw giant butterflies, very interesting lizards, and heard monkeys howling. There is a break along the way where you can swim in a pool at the bottom of a waterfall. We took the "4x4 car" to the starting point and that was an adventure in itself! The ride is quite bumpy but fun and again, beautiful. And, on top of all of that, the view from the lodge is breathtaking and the lunch provided is really good! We saw howler monkeys in the trees while we were eating lunch, another added bonus.

So, overall, I would definitely recommend Adventure Golfo to anyone looking for, well, and adventure! We're definitely glad we made the trip!

“We had so much good food.......it's a good thing we got a lot of exercise!!!!”

This is one of the best run resorts we had ever been too....lots of things to do and see...and so peaceful at night. We had the time of our lives..... incredible zip-lining, jumping into waterfalls, swinging on ropes, riding atv's and horses, and watching all kinds of wildlife, tons of beautiful flowers and stunning vistas and sunsets!!! Not to mention all the great food!!! We got to meet Barbara, one of the owners, and she and her staff are some of the most friendly, well-organized and professional people in their business!!! They are also very flexible with scheduling your activities and for all the amenities you get the prices are unbeatable!!! We would definitely go back and do it all over again!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

“The best ever experience on a vacation!”

Nancy and I are in our 60's and have been in many countries and have done many activities; such as hang gliding, scuba diving, visiting volcanoes, etc. Far and above this Adventure Park & Hotel Vista Golfo tops anything that we've ever done! The professionalism of the staff, their humor and helpfulness all contributed to making this a Class Act.
For myself I was hesitant at first to make that first leap of faith on the first zipline. But I did it anyway, because there was no turning back. My guides, Jose, Walter, and Juan were without a doubt the best and well experienced in their field, and all contributed to making this a 'piece of cake'. I learned in conversation that the youngest person to take the zip was 4 years old; the oldest 82, and there was even a 40yo blind man. This experience was worth all the time, effort and money; we would do it again and again, and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a safe and exciting adventure.
When we finished the tour over the most magnificent running streams and waterfalls, we were ushered into the lovely open dining area with a view of the Puntarena and the bay of Nicoya. Here we had an excellent vegetarian meal that tops anything that we've had in Costa Rica thus far. Hats off to the Chef!
This was worth the whole trip to Costa Rica. Whenever we come back to Costa Rica, we WILL come back to enjoy this again.

“Amazing Experience!!”

We stayed at the Doubletree in Puntarenas and they recommended this tour for ziplining. It was probably the highlight of our trip! The transportation was included in an air conditioned van with a great driver. (This was a big change from our taxi ride from the airport to the hotel.) When we got to the place, we started out by taking a horeseback ride through the landscape (STUNNING) and then did something like 25 zip lines and a few repelling lines too. The tour guide (Donald) was fluent in english and told us a ton of interesting facts about the rainforest and was very helpful in easing our nerves for the zip lines. We felt very safe on the lines, which varied in speed and technique. Every line had something new and exciting. Oh, and I have to mention the scenery. It's absolutely gorgeous. You zip over huge billowing waterfalls and through all of the trees and beautiful plants. It's for sure the best way to see the rainforest! After a full day of ziplining, they provide you with a meal (Costa Rican cuisine) in their dining room which overlooks the countryside. I can't recommend this tour enough!

“Our favorite adventure, not just in Costa Rica, but ANYWHERE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2010

This was our second trip to Costa Rica, and our second visit to the Vista del Golfo Adventure park. Last time, back in 2007, we visited as a day trip and did the 11-canopy tour. This time we decided to stay overnight, and we did the horseback ride and 25-canopy tour.

My husband and I have been around the world, and had some amazing adventures - we've been scuba diving in Bali, hiking in Machu Picchu, and spelunking in Belize. But this horseback ride/canopy tour is, by far, our favorite adventure so far!

We visited with our 16-year-old son, and he has not stopped talking about it since we got home.

The entire property is extremely professionally operated, yet the owners make a point of treating you like family. Safety is also important in an adventure park such as this, and we're happy to report that safety in all aspects of this operation appear to be their #1 priority.

We spent the night at the hotel (which we reviewed on their hotel listing here on Trip Advisor). The next day we started our tour. There were a couple other families and a group of single ladies on our tour as well. The guides helped us with our horses - and here I feel I should mention that, while I can see a previous reviewer complained about the horses, we didn't see a single problem here. The horses seemed fine, and we've been riding horses off and on for years. The facilities looked more than adequate, and the horses appeared loved. In fact our son spent several summers at horse camp, and knows enough about horses that he would have recognized if there was something wrong. I don't know what that other reviewer is talking about, but I promise that OUR horses were lovely, healthy animals that had no problems carrying any of us, and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip up the mountain. We weren't pushed , we went at a leisurely pace and got to savor the ride through the forest.

Once we arrived at the zip tour, the wild fun began! The zip lines are so well-handled - there is simply no way for an accident to occur. I think I felt safer on those zip lines than I do on the 405 freeway at home! The best part was getting to zip over waterfalls. I have a thing for waterfalls, and not only did we get to zip over them, we even got to swim under one! That was just sheer ecstasy. At that point we were feeling rather hot and sticky, and to be able to plunge into that pool and sit beneath the rushing cool water...heaven.

There is also a spot where we did some actual rappelling. My husband has done this before, but neither I nor my son had. It was fun, and added a little bit of challenge to the day.

It's hard to explain why this whole experience is so incredible, but I'll give it a try. I would say it's the combination of the adrednaline rush of riding the zip lines, the beauty of soaring over roaring waterfalls, the thrill of being deep in the jungle surrounded by wildlife (howler monkeys, racoons, sloths, and toucans!), the breathtaking beauty of the mountain, and the awe inspiring, forever views of the hills rolling off to the sparkling gulf. Add the friendly, expert guides, the fantastic food, and the hospitable, intimately-involved owners that make you feel like family, and you've got a vacation experience that just has no match. Anywhere.

Costa Rica is an amazing country with much to offer the adventurous traveler. And this is one Costa Rican adventure that should NOT be missed! We've been here twice, and if we are lucky enough to visit Costa Rica again, we will visit every time we come!
