“Heart Mango Moon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2010

Stayed three nights at Mango Moon and the reviews stated below were true to words. Donna is a great hostess, on our first night there due to pending sunset, she made sure we had enough time at the beach and gave my group a lift there. The staff members were helpful about suggesting places to eat and things to do. Eating breakfast of fresh tropical fruit and Costa Rican coffee overlooking a view of the ocean was a nice way to wake up to in the mornings. Highly Recommend.

This was my first stay at the Mango Moon Hotel. I have been to Costa Rica 5 times and the Manuel Antonio area twice. Mango Moon is a great place and the staff are very helpful. Donna, the owner and Sandy, her associate, did not hesitate to take care of any request I had. Brian, the bartender and bellman, was also very accomodating and Arlyn, the receptionist, could not have been more helpful. The view of the Pacific Ocean from my room was wonderful; the breakfasts were very good (with quite a selection, I might add); and, the general atmosphere was very relaxing and peaceful. The only downside for me was I found the bed a little too firm, but that is just a matter of personal preference. I would highly recommend this establishment if staying in the Manuel Antonio area.

Mango Moon has all the charm of a Bed & Breakfast with superior staff that treat you like family. From the moment we arrived we were in love with this hotel! -Well... hardly a typical "hotel" this is truly a home away from home! Donna, the owner, and her crew -two thumbs up for Sandy & Brian!!! - really go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure everyone is taken care of. They helped us book all of our adventures; white water rafting, canopy tour & an atv expedition... which were killer fun!!

We stayed in the Toucan Terrace - Queen upper balcony, the room was cozy, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable! Just like the other reviews, yes we were occasionally woken up by monkeys, but that is exactly what we were in Costa Rica for... monkeys!! One night we were sitting on our balcony and we even saw a sloth!

Every morning we had yet another amazing breakfast! Nothing on this menu is disappointing, and yes... be sure to get the Banana Pancakes atleast once! Yummy!!

Last but not least, we absolutely loved the dogs and cats at Mango Moon! We have 2 cats at home, and now I want a little dog just like Banchew! This little dog stole my heart.

The next time we visit Costa Rica, we will be staying at the Mango Moon... no doubt about that.

It’s hard to add anything to the reviews below but in our case we were a wedding party of 14 that chose Mango Moon as our destination bed and breakfast. We stayed at the hotel for seven days and it still wasn’t long enough. We had the wedding ceremony on Biesanz Beach nearby and the wedding dinner and reception was at Mango Moon. It was a wonderful event not only because of the beautiful hotel but also because of the kindness and helpful staff that cared enough to make this a special event for my daughter, her husband, and our entire wedding party. Dinner, flowers, and live music (lots of dancing) made the evening go by way too quickly. We chose Mango Moon and intentionally avoided the large resorts, we made an excellent decision. Our group frequented the pool area and enjoyed the excellent food that was prepared Costa Rican style. In the evening, we had drinks from the open air dining area and watched the sunset over the ocean. We also enjoyed the other guests that were staying at the hotel as well. Raft trips, tours of Manual Antonio, offshore fishing and four wheel excursions provided lots of outdoor fun. The friendly dogs and cats made us feel right at home and every morning the howler and white-faced monkeys announced their presence as they moved through the trees above the hotel. I can honestly say that this was a once in a lifetime event for everyone in our group, we were sad to leave and look forward to our return. Thanks Donna, Sandy, Brian, Arlyn and all the staff for making this a wonderful and special occasion for all of us.

I'm not really much of a reviewer but I felt like I needed to review Mango Moon because we had such an incredible time there. Everything about the place was amazing! The staff was awesome (this includes the dogs and cat)!!! The views were breathtaking and the food and drinks were delicious! The laid back vibe of the place was infectious. Mango Moon has a one of a kind charm and I would HIGHLY recommend checking the place out.

I just returned home from my vacation in Quepos, Costa Rica, and I had to write a review and let everyone know just how awesome the Mango Moon is. Trip advisor is where i got most of my information when planning our trip, and so i thought our experience may be helpful as well.

First of all, the entire was very helpful via email as I was making reservations and asking a zillion questions about how to get to Quepos from San Jose, and customs, etc. But our expectations were exceeded when we arrived. Aside from being super friendly, everyone was also unbelievably helpful. They had a large book of all the tours in the area, and recommended their favorites and the most reputable outfits. They also booked all of our tours for us as well. Everything they recommended turned out to be wonderful, and we were disappointed with nothing.

One event did stand out during our stay, however, which speaks to the high level of dedication and caring that this staff has for their guests. My boyfriend had made a copy of his passport and drivers license to bring with us as we toured, so that he could leave his passport in the room safe (as the guidebooks recommended). The problem was that he put this copy inside the book he brought on the trip, and left the book on our Sansa flight from SanJose to Quepos. Of course when he realized this the morning after our arrival, he freaked out and didnt want his identity stolen. When we told Arlyn (who is there every morning) what had happened, she promptly started calling the airline for us to try and track down the book. Eventually, she located it, and Sansa had it sent back to Quepos on the next flight. We were so relieved about finding it, that we asked for the best way to get to the airport to pick it up. This is when Donna, the owner of the hotel, told us not to worry, that we should go enjoy our day and that she would pick it up for us while we were out. I have never seen a staff who was so helpful with something that was really just a personal problem, and completely our fault. But it was soooo appreciated and such a weight off of our shoulders. With his mind at ease, my boyfriend was able to relax and enjoy our day, and everything else worked out fine.

But this attitute carries over to every aspect of the Mango Moon. The atmosphere is very much family and friends, where everyone staying there comes down for breakfast (which is wonderful by the way, defintately try the juevos rancheros and banana pancakes) and chats with each other, comparing notes about tours they have done, or are planning to do, etc.

Aside from the staff, the accomadations were also great. We stayed in the Titi Tiki room, overlooking the pool with floor to ceiling windows on two sides giving a great view of the jungle. We did get woken up a few nights by the monkeys running across the roof, but this didnt bother us, we were just excited that the monkeys were there! The pool was great and there is an awesome, beautiful private black sand beach just a short hike down from the hotel. It is also in a gret location with regards to good restaurants etc.

Also a note to anyone visiting Quepos. The bus system there was great. For 50 cents a person (as opposed to cabs for $5 a person) it picks you up right at the top of the hill and will take you all the way from manuel antonio park/beah to downtown quepos and stops all along in between. It was cleaner and easier than buses in the states, and runs about every twenty minutes.

In a nutshell, we had a great time and will definately be back at the mango moon. I am also going to recommend it to anyone i know who is going to that area.

We stayed at El Mango Moon May 5-May 7. The owner Donna greeted us and got us settled in. She also arranged our tours for us. We really appreciated the "feel" of this hotel because it is really a bed & breakfast establishment and very "homey". The dogs and cats were adorable and well behaved. The hotel is well decorated and clean. The food is great and the view of the ocean is a nice touch when you catch the sunset at the end of the day sipping a cocktail on your balcony. We took cabs everywhere but there is also a public bus to easily get around. There is an ATM within walking distance. We took a guided tour through the park and it was fantastic - we used William (ask Donna what company he is with). Then we used our park pass to hang out on the beach inside the park. We hiked to the Catedral point. We had dinner at Ronnie's place, which was OK - I would suggest eating at a restaurant that specializes in seafood because the seafood seems to be super fresh in this area. Friday we took a kayak tour through the Mangroves which was really cool. I think if you are looking for a great location with some privacy and atmosphere, choose Mango Moon! Oh and be aware that the howler monkey does not keep the same schedule as humans. At 3 am we were wide awake listening to the monkeys! :-)
