The hotel has a very attractive look, the staff are really good friendly people they made all the difference. The food menu needs to be broader as it’s limited. The drinks were really good, lots of fresh juices; don't be afraid to try the Cacique the local liquor it’s a blast! The room had a great view of the ocean and the pool, it was kept clean and the hotel felt good and safe.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room.

The hotel is rustic, small and a little run down, but it offers an incredible view of the Pacific and it's conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the bus stop. We loved the fact that it was in the direct path of a pack of White-throated Capucin monkeys that made their way through the connecting mango trees up and down the hill every morning and afternoon. From our balcony we enjoyed magnificent sunsets, a variety of birds and were visited by the tiny Squirrel Monkeys. All in all it was a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Toucan Terrace is on the second floor and has a great view of the Pacific.

My husband and I stayed at the Mango Moon in early March. We loved the warm tropical character of the place. Unlike the upscale resorts/hotels that we find to be a bit sterile and predictable, the Moon was warm and inviting and had that exotic feel that enjoy so much. It was still very comfortable and luxurious but in a laid back, intimate way. The pool and dining/bar areas are lovely and the views are amazing from there as well as most of the rooms. There is also trail that takes you to a private beach, which is not typical of the other hotels.

They also did a great job in the kitchen as well as the bar and everyone who works there is exceptionally friendly, including Donna, the owner.

The best part for us however was the abundance of wildlife that runs thru that property. We literally saw more wildlife at the Moon than we did in the actual park. Every day, and several times a day there were troops of monkeys, exotic birds, sloths and more. We started to realize that rather than trying to go find the critters, if you sit in one place long enough they will come find you, and that as it turns out was the perfect place.

Room Tip: Some rooms are best for bird watching, others monkeys and some simply views. Decide what's most...

Our family just returned from a week stay at Mango Moon. We Loved it! MM was very casual and laid back giving it a homey feel. It is not a posh, upscale resort with room service, all inclusive, etc. IT IS a warm, friendly place with courteous staff, good food, clean accommodations, great views, walk to beaches and restaurants. It was our kinda place! Thank you Donna, Arlyne, Jerilyn, etc for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sloth Shanty and it was perfect for 4 people!

My family loved our visit to Mango Moon. The view is outstanding. The atmosphere is quaint. The pace is relaxing. The rooms are comfortable. The food is good. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The co-owner, Donna, adds an extra dimension. She is a rock chick, married to the base player for the band Creed, although I gather that they are not so much together anymore except for the fact that he is still the co-owner of the hotel. She sort of shocked my senses when I first met her because she has tattoos running all the way down one arm and has tanned herself to ultra-dark -- which is not the look you normally see when you first check into a hotel.

Donna is ever-present in making sure that things are running well and that the guests are comfortable. Thus, we had a lot of chance to chat with her and I was really fascinated by the interesting life journey that led her to Mango Moon but also by the sweet and cool person that she is today. She is also part of the beautiful scenery you get when you stay there because she is a stylish mix of conventional pretty and good girl gone wild. Her caring management and unique presence play a major role in making Mango Moon such a charming place to stay.

Mango Moon what a great place. My friend and I traveled around the pacific coast of Costa Rica with no real plans, but to have fun. Stopped in Jaco for a night wasn’t very impressed, went south to Quepos for and all day fishing trip. Awesome, one sail, one Mahi-Mahi. Locals thought we had a crappy day. Brought the mahi mahi to El Gran Escape where they fried her up and feed the entire bar. When then ran up the hill to Manuel Antonio to watch the sunset. Pooped into Barba Roja bar and restaurant where we meet this crazy MoFo from Meridian, Miss. He gave us the best advice on our trip, Go stay with Donna at the Mango Moon. After several cocktails we slid into the Moon where we had the pleasure of meeting Donna, staff, dogs, friends and monkeys dancing around in the trees. The accommodations where great, view amazing, staff very helpful, complimentary breakfast and coffee gourmet and getting to meet Donna and her friends was a real honor. We ended up making the Mango Moon home base til the end of our trip. Each night we would ask Donna where to go and she put us on the best water falls, rafting and I’m sure we would have caught more fish if we had met sooner. Wed night they had an open jam session and everyone just makes you feel at home. Great place for families, honeymooners or anyone looking to escape. Donna, Leeann says hi and we’ll be back soon I promise. Thanks for everything.

My family of four (13 yr. old daughter, 16 yr. old son) just returned from an magnificent week in Costa Rica, and the couple nights we spent at Mango Moon were memorable for truly exceptional views, delicious food, outstanding music (Thursday night) and unparalleled hospitality and kindness -we especially enjoyed the time spent visiting with Donna, the owner. We stayed in Sloth Shanty, which was quite comfortable for us. Each room had a large, comfortable bed, AC, and separate entrances to the deck with a hammock. The pool is lovely, in the shade, and overlooks the sea. We would be thrilled to stay here again.
