“Romantic, private, breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Wow, I'm not even sure where to begin with this review. My (Costa Rican) fiance and I spent three nights here as a little getaway while we were in the country for a week visiting his family. It couldn't have been more perfect. Prana Rainforest Retreat was by far the most beautiful and private vacation experience I have ever had. Mark and Jon were incredible hosts. They have the perfect combination of being there if you need help or recommendations with giving you space to enjoy the private pool and villa. Not to mention the amazing breakfast you get every morning with the freshest ingredients. The villa was breathtaking from the design and decorations to the most comfortable bed to the fresh flowers. We spent most of our time relaxing by the pool, but also enjoyed the nearby beach. We decided to get massages one afternoon from Mark and Jon, and they were the best massages both of us have ever had. I can't imagine how our "real" honeymoon will be able to beat this!

Good thing we come to Costa Rica often to visit family, because we'll definitely be back!

Green Features: Extremely environmentally-friendly. Solar panels and biodegradable shampoo and soap.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Prana Rainforest Retreat. Our goal was to find a getaway that would provide us with rest and relaxation. Prana Rainforest Retreat surpassed our goal!

The villa was exquisite. Located in a secluded mountainside neighborhood, overlooking the Manuel Antonio rainforest, the venue was perfect to begin our respite. The large and airy rooms and tasteful decorations and furnishings put us immediately at ease. We loved the pool area and meditation hut, where we enjoyed several relaxing massages.

Breakfasts were delicious. Fresh fruit, amazing omelettes made with fresh eggs from chickens on the property were served each day, along with plenty of costa rican coffee. Mark and Jon were wonderful hosts. They were very helpful, accommodating and attentive to details. We enjoyed our morning chats as we discussed our adventures of the prior day and and what was planned for the day ahead.

We left refreshed and reinvigorated and look forward to returning. We couldn't have chosen a better place to enjoy our time away this year!

My partner and I stayed here in January. I feel as if I've been lax in not reviewing this, but quite frankly I'm having trouble coming up with the words. Let's just say that there should really be a 6-star category, as the experience dwarfs my 5-star reviews. The grounds are breathtakingly lovely--a jungle experience instead of an ocean-view one--and the wonderfully decorated villa has more room than our single-family home. Opt for the couples massage (we first got to know of Jon, Mark and the plans for this property from their spa in Key West), which as far as I am concerned is alone worth traveling to Costa Rica for. And Mark can cook for me any time with his healthy but decadent breakfasts. For the price of a standard room in Key West you can have the experience of a lifetime.

Stan, what a great review to start our day to. Thanks so much!
It was so great to have a familiar set of faces arrive here at the retreat ( Stan is a long time client from our day spa in Key West, florida)
Although your stay was a quick one ( so easy to get here from Florida) you guys packed in some great days here.
It was a pleasure to have you both, an enjoyment to cook for you and provide massages, and we can only hope to do it all over again before too long!

My husband and I did a lot of looking around for a great honeymoon spot. Being older and on our second marriage, we decided on something different. Not your typical honeymoon spot at an all inclusive. That is just not us. We love adventure, wandering, exploring, and getting out in nature. But a quiet private setting was on my list...away from the crowds. This place hit the mark on all points. We had privacy, peacefulness, nature, hiking, kayaking, beaching, horse back riding, swimming, and dining out at some great open aired restaurants. Mark and Jon are great hosts, chefs, therapists, guides, and educated on the lay of the land to get you where you want to go (unless you get lost on your own as we did at times). ;-) We will be going back soon!!

Karen, it was so wonderful to have you guys here, and especially nice to help you to celebrate your new lives together, so thanks so much for letting us host your honeymoon. It was also a pleasure to work on another massage therapist and get the chance to work out some of what you needed worked on. I also got to work ion my Paleo(ish) dishes, and that is always fun. I hope you are using the recipes we talked about, and we look forward to hosting you guys for an anniversary in the future!

Having never stayed at a retreat like Prana, we didn't know what to expect. When we arrived, we were amazed by both the hosts and property. From the beginning of our trip Mark and Jon were helpful getting us to Manuel Antonio. They demonstrated superb hospitality by doing what ever it takes to make you feel at home and at the same time offer a sense of privacy, that we as parents do not get at home. When the internet went out, Mark made it his personal mission to get it back up as fast as possible. All of Mark and Jon's recommendations were spot on (hiking, beaches, restaurants, bars, rafting, etc..) they have a wealth of local knowledge. Unfortunately we did not get to experience their massage talents due to an over indulgence of sun, but we did get to go to a yoga class taught by Mark which was amazing. Breakfast was breathtaking every morning with the freshest produce and unique combinations. We will never forget the daily conversations we had with Jon and Mark. We love the décor, the surroundings and napping in the hammocks, dips in the private pool. Perfect location for a private get away, yet close enough to experience pura vida community Costa Rica has to offer. So much gratitude for this great place and people. Thank you Jon and Mark for making our anniversary memorable. Hope to get back to see you before the next 10 years fly by.

We recommend renting a 4X4 car - just driving to some of our destinations was part of the adventure, no need to go on a 4x4 excursion. Every day was a 4X4 adventure!

Kim, thanks so much for your wonderful review. It is always great to be around folks having a great visit, enjoying the area and getting way from their busy lives. Having you guys here for the week was easy and fun and we'd love to have you back! The road is so very close to being smooth and paved, you won't recognize it!

Prana Rainforest retreat dazzled me, this is a one of a kind, an incredibly romantic three room indoor and beautiful outdoor tranquil space for two, with furniture that beckons one to relax, with views of the magnificent Rain Forest from every room ( If National Geographic and Conde Naste mated and took baby pictures they would put this place on the cover .) Cozy zen like robes hang next to the open huge rain shower for two that comes complete with jungle views where you can rinse,be romantic, or just marvel solo as you open the glass and wood door entering your private pool, complete with hanging outdoor bed . I could think of nothing or anything at all as the monkeys swung through the trees and native birds perched near you chirping their songs of happiness. Life is easy here, breakfast deck, a few steps from the pool, time of breakfast for two, anytime that works for you both. Hang in and lounge with breakfast at 9:30AM or get up to hike/surf/ beach and have breakfast at 6 AM. Mark puts thought and love into the making of the food, French Toast for my partner ( he was able to accommodate his special food needs) and whip up Moroccan Eggs for me, never had it before, will cherish it , fresh mango pineapple fruit with strawberries. and food heaven. Jon and Mark both are profesional massage therapists, and will accomodate your aching back or stiff neck, any time before dark in a beautiful covered outdoor jungle space...not interested in a massage, then just lounge there in the comfortable hammocks, hanging with the sounds of the rainforest. I mean seriously, what else could you want? A town that has great local restaurants, beautiful beaches, serious and gentle hiking, yoga, rainforests, lovely Costa Rican Pura Vida people, nearby white water rafting, or just doing nothing but read a good book, meditate, lounge In your own outdoor bed complete with beautifully shaped towels every day. Mark and Jon make life easy, natural and acomodating with their inate way of not being in your way and their intuitive ability to make it all seem, well, seamless. I've stayed in hundreds of world class places and settings but their prana energy, which means Lifeforce among other things, is at work here, to take care of all your needs, wants and desires. Calmness, clarity, and relaxation play here like the beautiful instruments of a symphony in synchronicity. It not only works, it flows.

Lora, what can I say other than: Thank you, thank you thank you.
Honestly, I am afraid with a review written that wonderfully that people are going to think we are paying you guys for these reviews.
Reading these things gives us so much wonderful energy and encouragement, so thank you so much for that.
As much as any type of negative criticism teaches us what we must do to improve, receiving such praise also keeps us on our toes to be sure that we keep it up.
Thanks again Lora, and it was a pleasure to have you for your stay!

Mark and Jon own and run this place. They are the most endearing and helpful hosts you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. They can't do enough for you. They have a great knowledge of the area and give great ideas of what to do in the area and then help out in seeing those ideas through.

Mark does the breakfast and makes excellent food with a fabulous presentation.

The room and there is only one gives complete privacy except from the large array of monkeys which keep going by the property. There is a small pool and a great bed to lounge and read. You could run around in your birthday suit all day and no one would be the wiser. The bed is comfortable and there is a small kitchen with a micro and bar fridge and bottled water. The great thing about Costa Rica is that you can drink the water from the tap unlike Mexico.

The B&B is at the end of a brutal road but they are fixing that as we write. I would advise a car rental to see the area outside of Quepos and just to get around the local area.

In conclusion you can't go wrong here and writing as someone with over 60 B&B's under his belt the place is exceptional and the price is very reasonable for what you are getting which is the "BOMB" as they say.

Guys, thanks for such a nice review! It was great to have you, and we'd love to have you back.

Yes! The entire road, from the main Manuel Antonio back to us is getting completely redone, as I write this.
Those of you that have stayed with know that the road has, at times, been a bit rough. What we treasure about our place is that we are at the end of our road which gives us direct access right on the border of the National Park. Our property is perched right on the edge of a jungle canyon and so looks right into the pristine jungle surrounding us. BUT, the road here was not so great. Maybe that's why we got to buy the place! Well, after four years of working with the "city" our community got the project going and now we are going to have a nice "modern" paved road all the way back.
The great thing is since we are here at the end, we will still enjoy the beautiful seclusion that our spot enjoys.
We'd love to have you back to see it!
Thanks again for such a thoughtful and kind review.
