“The only restaurant right on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

This is the only restaurant in Manuel Antonio that is literally on the beach. You can eat with your toes in the sand. Fresh seafood, the seafood spaghetti is the best I've had. Their portions are big, service is friendly. A good place to spend a whole day - they can set you up with chairs and umbrellas, and even rent surfboards and offer surf lessons. This place is a gem and if you go to Manuel Antonio, a must!

“One of Our Favorites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

We stopped here one afternoon after surfing lessons, and we were starved. Balu is the only restaurant we saw that was RIGHT on the beach, and it was great. The vibe is relaxed, the food is simple but delicious, and with your feet in the sand......... it can't be beat. I had the chicken casado (DELICIOUS), and my son had the grilled mahi mahi platter (he loved it). Add ice cold beer, add sunset, que the clichés...... well, you get the drift. The only negative was that the wandering vendors that are constantly bugging you on the beach, are apparently welcome at this restaurant, or at least tolerated, which was pretty irritating. We overlooked them, and had a great dinner. You should too.

“Lunch on the Beach”

Great little place right on the beach. The mango juice was great, but we didn't like the papaya juice as much. Large portions - but lots of vendors come in trying to see stuff.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

We were taking a long walk and just happened upon this place. Very casual and a great location.....right on the beach, outdoors. Wish we had had the opportunity to go back but time was too short
