“Warm and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

From check-in to check-out, we were treated like cherished friends by the warm and humorous staff. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with each deck offering a spectacular view of the sunsets. Our meals were terrific as well, chosen from a varied menu, and when one meal was less than perfect, it was whisked away without a question. Edgar, Eileen, Gilberto, and owner Robbie, all made us feel at home. The only caveat is that the tile floors are treacherous when wet, making footing difficult.

Room Tip: The upper floors have the best views.

Dear Dobiemom12.
Thank you so much for your excellent review on this important forum, I love to read reviews like yours, and thank you for mentioning the names of some of our great workers and so glad you met Robbie.
We are so happy to hear that we meet your expectations about location and especially our customer service.
Due to the structure of the high ceilings when the hotel was built, makes it difficult when it rains and it could be slipper, we try our best to keep these floors dry as soon as the rain stops.
Thank you very much for your recent visit and looking forward to see you back in Manuel Antonio some time soon.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Hotel California. The views are amazing, the hotel has a lovely pool, fresh water Jacuzzi, an open air ocean view restaurant. The staff is very friendly. We actually talked to the owner , a lovely lady from California and the rest of the staff members are very nice too and very knowledgeable, they informed us about things we could do in the area and even about other regions we considered visiting in the near future. The rooms are spacious, very nice and comfortable. The room had ac, tv, large beautiful and comfortable beds and the decoration was very pleasant too. We will defenitely recommend the hotel to future travelers and friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the ocean view rooms in the top floor. The views are absolutely stunning.

A hidden gem amongst the trees, we stayed in a wonderful room on the top level with amazing views. Lying in bed one night watching a thunderstorm roll out over the beach was truly an incredible experience which will stick with me. Quiet location well away from town, great staff very willing to help with anything we needed, breakfast choice wasn't over the top but it was really wonderful with fresh fruits and delicious omelettes available among other things, the pool was nice to take a dip in to cool off... just wonderful!

We stayed here apr.24th and 28th, 2013 as part of our 2 week vacation. It was recommended to us by the owners friend who owns a working horse ranch in the mountains of baru where we stayed for the remainder of our trip (19th-29th). I'll take the opportunity to put a plug in for her place now as well. It's called rancho tranquilo.
We were looking for a little break from the mountains as well as a place to stay for the last night putting us that much closer to the airport and time to see manuel antonio.
We could not have been happier with this choice as we had booked a room elsewhere and looked at a couple of other spots and there was no comparison. We quickly cancelled our previous booking. I very seriously did not want to leave. It is smallish but so cozy with breakfast included and i tell you it was breakfast and delicious. Views of m.a. Beach from our rooms and pool/bar were beautiful. All staff we dealt with were exceptional. Feel like you want to single everyone out but Gilbert and Lewis (Louis) at the bar could not have been more hospitable. Such very non-assuming people going out of their way to make you comfortable. I really hope that american owners of these hotels appreciate people like this who make their properties a success. They deserve recognition. The same goes for administration people we dealt with...eric, another guy who has a daughter named michelle with 2 l's lol, and a pretty, slender with beautiful eyes young woman who we also did not get a name. I got the diareah thing the last day and she insisted before leaving that. I go back to the bar to get a chamomile tea with cinnamon very interested to bring me relief which for the record helped greatly...very comforting. The young man who got me the tea at the bar was also very concerning which is something i noticed about costa ricans in general.....very sincere.
The rooms were extremely clean, everything in working order and decor very inviting...big rooms. The only thing that makes my review fall short of 100% is the first night we had a room with a queen bed and it had to be the most uncomfortable bed i have ever slept in along with the dead pillows. The second night was a king..much better but regardless i would still go back again and do hope to. I respect other reviews opinions but not sure what the location problem is. Never crossed our minds. You would have to walk or drive from the other nearby accommodations as well?????
You do have to watch carefully for little sign to take you up a dirt road. We saw sign but missed getting there at first.
Very strong thumbs up. Will remember it fondly

Room Tip: Choose king bed with view room

Nice hotel, in between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Not much in the immediate area. It is a good enough place to stay, but know that it is inconvenient.

The room was nice, it had a balcony was clean, but seemed disorganized when we went to check in.

There was AC in the room, needed with the temperatures in the area!

I found this hotel because of a groupon, and it was in the area where my friend was getting married. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by a staff that was more than helpful. The front desk staff checked us in quickly, and walked us to our room. Within the first 5 minutes we saw monkeys jumping from tree to tree and we knew that we were going to be happy here!

The pool area was small, but uncrowded. Most of the time there were just the 2 of us here. Breakfast was included, and although simple, it hit the spot. And they even had a pool side happy hour.

The views were unmatched, and the beds were comfortable. Not super deluxe, but very comfortable.

I would stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Higher floors give you a better water view.

We stayed the last couple of days at Hotel California between Manuel Antonio and Quepos. It was the highest quality and very attractive hotel on our G Adventures tour. Spacious, comfortable, clean, with A/C and nice touches and good beds. The staff from reception to the pool restaurant/bar were all friendly and attentive. We ended up spending more time here than expected because it was so resorty and relaxing, with a nice pool and good food and beverages.
Muchas Gracias!

One small quibble: the wifi didn't reach our room.
