Being on a tour, we were used to very basic but clean accommodations. So when we arrived at Hotel California, we were pleasantly surprised. The location is a bit far from downtown Quepos, and this is one of the times where I think it is an advantage.

Pros: swimming pool and jacuzzi; the restaurant overlooks the ocean. It's food is good quality, reasonably priced and breakfast buffet is good value. They have Happy Hour between 4-6pm, with 2-for-1 drinks. Service was excellent and any issues were resolved quickly. The rooms are large, have a little patio, has AC, bar fridge, coffee maker and room safe to keep your valuables. Location was halfway between Manual Antonio park and downtown Quepos, with a bus stop going either direction to the aforementioned destinations at the bottom of the road.

Cons: it was sometimes difficult to get towels at the swimming area, and the hilly driveway to the hotel can be a pain after a strenous day in the city/beach.

I would highly recommend Hotel California, and would happily go back!

Room was clean, beds comfortable. Old small screen TV placed very high on wall. Bathroom small with no room to place toilet articles. Hot water failed on second day. Hotel is 300 meters from main road where there is a bus stop. Buses run every 20" and service is very good. Hotel restaurant food and service is above average.

Gorgeous view if you get a room on the bay side. But, very poor service, seven lounge chairs around a mini swimming pool for the whole hotel, two most inconfortable iron chairs on the balcony, two Wood benches in the hall. Forget relaxing outdoors. No pool towels available the second day, no butter or margarine for the toasts at breakfast. The people at the reception gave us minimum information. I would not recommand this place.

The hotel has a great infrastructure with a beautiful pool and ocean view. I stayed on the first floor, without a view, but the rooms on the second floor may have a view to the pool and the ocean in the back. My room was very spacious with a balcony to the backyard. There was free WiFi in the lobby and in the pool/restaurant area and the service is also very good.
The only thing I did not love about the hotel was the location. It is almost half way from Quepos and Manuel Antonio and you need a bus or cab to go anywhere. I stayed there with G Adventures, so that was not a big deal as I was moving around with a big group most of the time. If I was by myself or with a smaller group I would rather stay closer to the beach.
