“Stunning villa, perfect stay in Casa del Mar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Our family of five stayed here for 4 nights based on the reviews we read here. Everything is completely true. We were in the Casa del Mar which is one of the villas. It is absolutely gorgeous, maybe the nicest place we have ever stayed. The hotel is wonderful, staff is friendly and helpful, our concierge Ashley was terrific. She helped us arrange tours and taxis, and called every day to see if we needed anything. Beautiful pools and beach, stunning vistas. Even when it rained, we stayed in the hot tub on the porch and looked at the view. we would love to return here.

We have stayed at some really nice hotels in our travels, but Tulemar's customer service is absolutely exceptional. From the moment we arrived, staff welcomed us as if we were old friends. Even my kids were greeted with friendly a 'Hola Amigo!' by restaurant staff, gardeners, cleaning staff, and even maintenance staff. I personally would nominate our concierge, Ashley, for the 'Concierge of the Year' award as she is just lovely!

The location, pools, and beach at Tulemar are perfect. Tulemar is a bit pricy, but the combination of amazing customer service, fantastic location, gorgeous views, and huge list of included amenities really proved to be a great value!

We stayed in bungalow 113, which had stunning views and seemed quite private considering it is almost entirely windows (there's blinds). The bungalow had lots of sleeping space with 2 queen beds and a day bed with a trundle in the living room.

We were disappointed by the small kitchenette, but honestly, it's good for a shorter stay and really you want to spend your time by the beach or in the pools anyway! The kitchenette had a small bar fridge, microwave, a 2 element cook top, coffeemaker, and hardly any counter space (no oven). It also only had 1 pot, 1 frying pan, cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses, and small mugs for only 4 people... so don't expect to cook a gourmet meal! We were able to cook basic stuff like quesadillas, french toast, and spaghetti as we get tired of eating at restaurants every meal.

The beach is nice with tons of beach chairs, sand toys for the kids, boogie boards, and paddle boards with no additional fees (which was a pleasant surprise!). The waves, however, were very strong during our stay and we did find that there was quite a strong current when the tide was going out. The red flag was flying, but people were still swimming and boogie boarding. If you have little kids and are concerned, the beach in Manuel Antonio was calm and perfect for young kids.

We rented our own car and there was parking right near the bungalows. It was also nice to be able to drive down the hill and park beside the beach, as it would be quite a hike back up with our load of beach gear. If you don't have a car, the shuttle will pick you up at the beach and drop you back of at your rental.

There were tons of howler monkeys, sloths, birds, and lizards on the property. Staff were great at letting people know the latest monkey and sloth sightings and we were able to get some really close up photos.

Tulemar is a big property, with everything spread out, which means you never see lots of people. The pools were often empty and we never had to wait for a beach chair or boogie board. I'd highly recommend Tulemar as it is for people who like quiet, nature, and relaxation!

Hi kells_on_holiday......thanks for the great review on your stay in one of our Tulemar Bungalows......we loved having your family with us.....the Bungalows are a good choice for 1-4 persons......lots of sleeping options and with windows all around you have wonderful ocean and jungle views.....(especially #113)......your description of the kitchenette matches ours on the website to a "t".....(including the photo)......they are as you mentioned......good for breakfasts, snacks and drinks.....but not for cooking a large meal......(we do have other units with full kitchens)......thanks for your comments on Ashley and I agree...."Concierge of the Year"......would fit her well.....she really is concerned about her guests and will go above and beyond to make sure they are happy......just one note about our beach......the waves and tides vary all through the day....from nearly flat and calm to larger waves.....and whatever the conditions are at our beach....they will be the same/similar at all the local beaches......just ask David at our beach services what the conditions are before you come down.....he'll be happy to assist.....and yes we do put a red flag out when the waves or tides are stronger......thank you so much for posting this review and for booking with us directly on this web site at Tulemar....we hope to have you back again soon!

This place is in a great spot. Right up against the beach and surrounded by monkeys, sloths, etc. That being said, the staff is what makes this place so great. Danny was our concierge. From the start he made sure we had everything we needed and called daily to make sure. He showed us monkeys and sloths, and recommended activities and restaurants. The people in the office were also great. They are all great at their jobs and if I owned a hotel I would love to have a staff like this.

Second trip to Tulemar but very different for the fact that we had our kids in tow and this is the first time we had been to Costa Rica in the rainy season . We stayed in Casa Mirador with another couple and their 3 kids ( and our two 4,6,yr olds ) . We stayed in the lower and the other couple stayed in the upper which worked out perfect .... '' Team Diego " treated us like family from the very start by bringing us 2 cakes from a local bakery that his family likes and thought we would as well .... and of course we did ! .... nothing is ever too much to ask for Al and Diego they make it so easy...... Kids absolutely loved it here ... so many monkeys, sloths , iguanas , geckos , tucans ..... it really is critter city !! ... We also loved the whole setup at the restaurant / pool it just worked perfect for our family and the proximity of our casa ....although the restaurant has gotten some less than perfect reviews lately, we thought it had great food .... its just what Tulemar needed to make it a true " one stop shop "...... The amenities at Tulemar are endless...... the beach ... concierge service .... 4 pools .... restaurant ... animals ... shuttle service ... can't understand why anyone would go anywhere else ! ...... A few other names worth mentioning this year that gave us awesome service and made our trip unforgettable were Jose the bartender who has a great personality and always went out of his way to say hi to my kids ..... and the other star of Tulemar was Marlon the chef at the restaurant who made us a fabulous meal in our casa one night ( you have to try this ) the best meal of our entire stay .... ( thanks again Dave ) .....I could go on and on about this place and its staff but words cannot describe it ... just book it and see for yourself ..... we are going to try and make it an annual trip ... its that good !!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to book in the rainy season ..... it was never a washout ...beautiful mornings a...

Spent a week at Tulemar in August 2014. Stayed at Casa Las Nubes. What fantastic house. Great views, comfortable rooms, indoor/outdoor living design a rare treat. Highly recommend that house. We were taken care of by Diego and Al. Outstanding service, very attentive and thoughtful. Service at the entire resort is top notch, but not in your face like some hotels. Highly recommend the surf school run by Diego. The classes are held at a nearby beautiful beach and all the amenities are provided. Only drawback might be the resort restaurant food ( a bit pricey for what you get, but great service), but good restaurants a block or two from the resort entrance.

We changed our arrangements at the last minute and took the advice of TripAdvisor reviewers and booked at the Tulemar. We stayed 4 nights -- 2 at Casa Panorama South and 2 at one of the Buena Vista bungalows. We were in Costa Rica for 15 days (staying at all 4 or 5 star resorts) and these 4 days will surely be the most memorable. The experience couldn't have been better.

First off, the physical location of the resort is unbeatable. We regularly saw monkeys and sloths in the trees surrounding the bungalows. We even had a handful of monkey on our porch on our final day, taking off with the remaining bananas and mangos we had in the kitchen. The beach is extremely swimable with wonderful boogey-boarding and kayaking opportunities. It is also very private with never more than a few groups there at a time.

Secondly, the services is fantastic. Kimberly, the personal concierge, went way and beyond in helping us book arrangements prior to our arrival (and even helping advise on parts of our trip that were not at the Tulemar). She was accessible 24/7 with helpful recommendations and tips.

Third, the cuisine within walkable distance of the Tulemar was the best we had in Costa Rica. Kimberly did not steer us wrong. Was fun watching my 3 kids (aged 9-14) eat hearty portions of foods they never would have tried at home.

Finally, the facilities are very nice. We preferred the layout and view of the 2-level Panorama location (and it was cheaper!) than the 3 level Buena Vista unit (the latter was a bit dark and didn't bring the group together as much given we were spread across 3 levels).

We have been on many vacations as a family and will remember this one that caused our family of 5 to unplug, appreciate nature and each other like none before it. If you have kids that will be off to college some time in the next 10 years and you want to create some unforgettable memories, this is for you.

Room Tip: Bigger is not necessarily better given the greater # of rooms will be spread across floors. More ro...

Hi Rebecca S......thanks for the great review on your stay in Casa Panorama and one of our 3 bedroom premium villas......so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us......even though you had to change villas halfway thru.....thanks for your comments on both.......sometimes the only options we have available for specific dates will require a move.....and while that doesn't seem appealing.....we can make it as easy as possible.....and you get to experience more than one villa in Tulemar......thanks for your comments on Kimberly.....your personal concierge......one of Tulemar Stars for sure......she really works hard to make sure her guests get exactly what they are looking for....a relaxing time at the beach.....or an active time on tours and adventures.....maybe a mix of both.....thanks for booking with us at tulemar.com....the only spot to book Casa Panorama....we hope to see you back again!

For the record, this is my first Trip Advisor review ever - We just returned from a 6 day stay at Tulemar (Casa 405 to be specific). Without a doubt, the nicest Villa we have ever stayed in ANYWHERE. From the very beginning with email welcomes from Chris (our Concierge) to a welcome fruit drink from the owner (Dave) to the outstanding beach staff (remember names, point out wildlife, one even ran into the ocean to help a kid struggling a bit) to the van drivers to the housekeeping staff (that did our laundry, washed our dishes and made sure everything was perfect), the place is indeed better than Fantasy Island.

The village has amazing restaurants within walking distance. There is no way to describe how wonderful it is.

So, if you're like us, here are the answers to your questions...

- Safe? Absolutely!
- Great for kids? Unbelievably so.
- Romantic? Paradise (please see note above regarding kids...).
- Views? Better than travel magazine pics.
- Concierge a help? It's like they read your mind.
- Animals? Sloth at check in, monkeys everywhere, iguanas at the beach, birds galore and insects (good kind) everywhere
- Pools? 4 of them, great settings.
- Easy to get eats? Everything from in-room pizza, personal chef, kids food and romantic dinners

Please don't tell anyone about this place - it's truly a one-of-a-kind adventure.
