I've always wanted to see Costa rica, i spent many hours searching for the right place. Thank god for trip adivsor. The reviews are very helpful. I decided to rent a small bungalow. It is a great little apartment. We loved the size and panoramic view of the Ocean,The facility reminds me of a club med type environment. The staff was outstanding, Gabrielle,Michael and Orlando went out of their way to make us feel like we are family. I would go back based on how they treated us. Very kind and willing to share their insights of Quepos and the surrounding attractions. the surrounding grounds are spectacular and well maintained. Im from Florida and costa rica reminds me of the hills of Georgia. Steep and rocky. The internal road at tulemar looks brand new and a nice workout going down to the beach. Alot of monkeys and birds. I decided to book the trip before season hits...Its the cheapest time and I would imagine that when season hits it will be a nonstop zoo there at the resort and town. We had the resort to ourselves. Many restaurants to choose from. We chose the local "soda" restaurants, the food pricing on the larger establishments are very costly. Seems like the west is priced into Quepos and Manuel Antonio. the US is much cheaper for food and drink. The local rotgut beer will run 700-800 collones(1.50-1.75). Don't forget to get your alcohol at the duty free in the airport. Buying at Joesph is like 3x US. We didn't exchange our us dollars at the airport, we did go to the bank and "I WOULD NOT EXCHANGE AT THE LOCAL BANK" fees are outrageous and we got screwed on that. Just remember roughly 500 collones is 1 us dollar. either divide or multiply to figure out the us cost... The locals are very nice and willing to help communicate. brush up on your Spanish that will help. You can use the local bus that cost 285c or .60 us. We thought the local taxis are to expensive($6) and i found out if a car flashes or beeps its a pirate cab. they run 500c ($1) for a ride. We befriended many Americans there and they are extremely helpful to guide you around in a cost effective way. Don't forget to negotiate for items and or market foods. Pricing is way out of line at the local stores...The US has some great pricing factors and i found that costa rican pricing is too expensive. I chartered a boat for fishing Through Ocean Explorers. The owner is Curtis Lee Wimberly, he is an outstanding, dynamic individual. He will go out of his way to make your experience a wonderful one. He has character and is a man of his word. You can trust him. You can not be naive or you will be setting yourself up to be taken advantage of... Pay attention, not all people are trust worthy...We took a puddle jumper from San jose to quepos. The trip back to San jose from quepos, has a $34 exit fee per person...Basically a tax to leave Quepos. The tax rate is 13% for the state and the resort charged another 10% for the staff. So eating at Tulemar is very expensive. I would rate the whole experience a 9 out of a 10. Best Jims

Hi Jim S....thanks for writing such a great review of your stay in one of our Tulemar Bungalows......and thanks for the kind words on our staff members as well.....they really do want you to enjoy your stay.....lots of good information here......and I'll provide a little clarification too.....good advice....it is expensive and unnecessary to exchange your money at the airport and even the banks......if you bring smaller US bills....like $20's......you can use them in most places and get colones in return.....or simply bring your ATM card and it will dispense dollars or colones.......duty free at the airport is the best place to buy alcohol.....there is a small shop in the baggage claim area......groceries......yes....the smaller, local grocery stores near the hotels are more expensive....but they carry the US brands that most tourists want and there is a cost for getting those to Costa Rica.. ...the larger grocery stores in Quepos (owned by WalMart) are much cheaper and have a big selection of local products but do not have those US brands.......buses are cheap and run frequently....there are bus stops right outside of our front gates......official taxis will come right to your bungalow or villa to pick you up and drop you off....the "pirate taxis" are not allowed inside of Tulemar and you are taking a chance on using them.....bartering at the local shops and stores is not accepted.....(this isn't Mexico).......but bartering does work at the craft stalls around the beach area......remember....this is a major resort area......prices are higher.....just like shopping in Miami or South Beach vs shopping in a smaller Florida town that is not in a tourist area.......the tax/service fee on restaurant bills is the same in all of Costa Rica.......it is a law.....13% sales tax and 10% service fee are line items added to the bill.....the 10% is the tip for the server......and the departure tax is for Costa Rica....(not Quepos).....it is $29.....paid at the San Jose airport......the little Quepos airport will sell you this tax for an extra $5 fee ($34) so you don't have to stand in line in San Jose.....that is your choice......I usually buy mine in San Jose unless I'm running late.......so thanks again for writing the review and providing a lot of good information.....we appreciate that.....and we hope to see you back again soon!

After months of research, a friend of mine found Villa Kiskadee at Tulemar in Manuel Antonio National Park. Mauricio, our Concierge, was delightful and very patient with numerous emails inquiring about what to bring, what not to bring and so forth. When we got there, he took care of every aspect of our trip, from making restaurant reservations and sending a van to take us to the beach for kayaking, to arranging our White Water Rafting trip....a "must do"...the highlight of my trip. He even decorated our Villa for a birthday celebration while we were out for dinner, not to mention that he arranged for an extraordinary birthday celebration, with flashing lights, horns and a fireworks display at the restaurant. Villa Kiskadee was everything we dreamed about and more. I would highly recommend staying at Villa Kiskadee with its breathtaking views and well manicured grounds. Be sure to ask for Maurcio!

Well we stayed at tulemar for a week from nov. 7-14. It was very quiet at this time because it is their low season so at times it was like our own private resort. The staff was fabulous. every bar tender to the chef to our concierge Ashley. They were all friendly and helpful and eager to please. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are very nice and very clean. We stayed in a deluxe room for 3 days and moved to a bungalow for 4 days. We much preferred the bungalow as it was way more roomy and had a kitchen. The wildlife is abundant and its kind of a magical place full of life. Right in the jungle but the beach is right there also. We loved it. Cab rides are cheap so no need to rent a car. I highly recommend taking a trip to manuel antonio national park. The beach inside the park is gorgeous and tons of animals everywhere. I cant say enough nice things about Tulemar and Ashley and the whole staff. I will definitely go back:)

How do you describe a tropical paradise with beautiful people who provide incredible service and do it justice? Each year we take an annual “Chix Trip” to a warm exotic location and this year we chose Costa Rica. We picked Tulemar Bungalows based on other Trip Advisor recommendations and are so happy with our choice. From the moment we booked our trip, Julien, our concierge, took care of everything. He patiently answered all of our questions, provided information for us to think about before we arrived and gave wonderful packing tips. I can’t say enough about how wonderful it is to have a friend in Costa Rica who speaks the language and takes care of all of the details. His “can’t miss “recommendations and bookings of our transfers and excursions were faultless and enhanced our experience. He was warm, responsive and kind. We stayed in Villa 114 with a panoramic view of the jungle and the bay. After meeting David who always was there with a smile, a towel and kayaks when we wanted to paddle around the bay, we made a friend in Danny our “bartender on the beach”. He whipped up a number of “special drinks” for us to sip as we soaked in the sun under a tree with a two-toed sloth hanging out in the branches. Rather than climb the hill back to the villa, which by the way is a great workout (shuttle provided if you want) we chose a number of times to have lunch on the beach. The fish tacos and chicken mango wraps were perfect. One night there was a spectacular rain storm and we chose to eat at the Buena Vista Restaurant near the pool instead of “going out” for dinner. We had the restaurant to ourselves and the chef did an amazing job. The vegetables and rice were a wonderful complement to the fresh shrimp and mahi mahi, all perfectly cooked with some amazing sauces. A huge highlight for us was the little band of white faced monkeys that trekked through the jungle each day stopping to say good morning as they passed by our window. On our last night, Julien brought us a surprise to say good bye. Three huge warm chocolate brownies, just out of the oven. We will definitely come back to Tulemar someday. Convenient to walk to a small grocery store, some great restaurants and not far from the entrance to Manuel Antonio, coupled with superior service and a gorgeous view, you can’t go wrong.

HI Barb5954.......thanks for choosing Tulemar for your "Chix Trip"......we loved having you.....your group was so much fun.......and thanks for all the kind remarks on Julien, David (at the beach) and Danny.....I agree.....all are very special people.....professionals who really want our guests to enjoy themselves (and Tulemar)......I'm so glad you took advantage of our personal concierge service with Julien.....(it's free!).....he really can make your trip so easy......from your transportation to Manuel Antonio......to your tours/activities.......to the best places for a drink or dinner.....he knows them all......we guarantee all of the tours/activities that we book.....(my nephew (28 y/o) and his friends just spent a week with me and one day told me they had arranged a tour thru some "great people" that they had met on the public beach....."really cheap".....well.....they got what they paid for and we're really disappointed that they had been taken advantage of.....it does happen),,,,,,Barb.....thanks, again for posting this review and we hope to have you back again!

My husband and I stayed in Nido de Ganses, a private OMG house with private infinity pool. We had howler and squirrel monkeys all around, a resident sloth in the tree outside and the beach...words cannot describe the beauty of the private beach! Everything about Tulemar exceeded expectations! Al and Bill were on point and took care of ALL our needs! If you want a top notch guide through the Manuel Antonio Park ask Al. The guide he arranged for us was $50US per person and spotted critters and animals that the average person wouldn't see! The property, house, beach and experience was TOP NOTCH and I'm afraid from now on any vacations we take will be a let down! Thank you Al and Bill for being the nicest, most knowledgeable, friendliest people I have ever met and thank you for ensuring our needs were met always!

I found Tulemar on Trip Advisor and am so glad I did. What a place!!! It is in a gated community with access to a private beach, kayaks, nature trails and walking distance to many great restaurants. We stayed in Lower Mirador which was so nice. One bedroom, full kitchen, living room, large bath and a wonderful balcony. The place is very clean and they really go above and beyond with service. We took a quick peek at Upper Mirador before we left and want to stay there next time. It's two bedrooms and two floors but what a view (I thought lower Mirador had a nice view)! Besides being a really great property in a really great area, the service you get is amazing. As soon as you make the reservation you get all sorts of information back regarding the area, tours, transfers, etc. Bill was our "concierge" and seemed to be at our beckon call! He personally took us down to the park, told us about the area, stopped for pictures along the way. For $20 they will even grocery shop for you and have your fridge stocked when you get there. Well worth the money! Without hesitation I would recommend Tulemar!!!
