“Great vacation for the whole family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

We stayed at Tulemar Resort from June 21st through June 24th. We were two families consisting of a total of 8 people. Our children ranged in age from 13 to 19 years old. We rented one of the three bedroom Buena Vista Villas and it exceeded our expectations. The villa was beautiful and the views were breathtaking. Our concierge Andres was very attentive and helped us organize all of our excursions and dinner arrangements. The pictures on the website are very accurate and if anything the resort is even nicer than depicted in the photographs. There were so many wonderful restaurants within easy walking distance and we did not have one bad meal. Barba Roja's and Cafe Milagros were two places I'd highly recommend. We did a number of excursions and the White water rafting trip with Pro Rafting was amazing.
We made some great memories on this vacation and Tulemar is a place we hope to return to. Our biggest complaint was that we didn't stay longer.

We were choosing between two hotels in Manuel Antonio (last of 3 stops in CR), and at the last minute my wife suggested we stay at Tulemar. What a great call that was! This beautifully landscaped and very private, low key compound is built cascading down a hill, ending at the only private beach in Manuel Antonio (for use exclusively by guests). A house account allows you to eat at a pool restaurant or the beach, or have a private chef prepare dinner in your private bungalow or villa. We spent much time at the beach boogie boarding, kayaking, and having lunch served to us under trees where squirrel monkeys were playing above. The bungalow was not only comfortable but had spectacular panoramic ocean views through walls of glass. Tulemar's web site's pictures, if anything, don't do justice to the views, pool area, or restaurant. Each bungalow or villa has a kitchenette so eating every meal out is not a requirement...a real benefit when traveling with kids. Most impressive was the concierge program: Chris Madrigal was assigned to us when we made our reservation, and he went so far beyond the call of duty ... from having fresh flowers in our bungalow when we arrived to arranging activities with specific naturalists and surfing instructors to driving us to the local market to buy snacks and groceries to cook ourselves dinner in our bungalow one evening to showing up with home made chocolates and just in time to save us from ourselves as we tried to order a pizza to be delivered (our kids' request) with our broken Spanish. His personal service on top of a superlative location made our vacation, and allowed us to be as lazy and laid back as the sloths we could see from our living room window. The biggest problem we can report is, with so many places in Costa Rica we haven't yet visited, how we will find a way to spend time at Tulemar on our next trip!

This was a dream vacation!!!! The staff was wonderful and helpful with everything. Our house was centrally located to the beach, park, restaurants and grocery shopping. We were a family of 9 starting at 15 years old going up to 62 and it was perfect for everyone. We have traveled the world and this was a beautiful home and vacation. Lots of excursions to choose from and plenty of help to decide on a safe and fun adventure.

We could have not ever imagined a more perfect honeymoon locale. Lower Villa Mot Mot was just perfect for the two of us -- it's not huge, but plenty of space for two with the expansive outdoor deck. We had a very active honeymoon with the ADR Adventure Park, surfing, white water rafting and the list goes on, but also had a really fantastic time just laying at the beach and the pools. You don't have to lift a finger while you're there. Shout out to David at the beach, he was fabulous, always taking care of us, the bar at the beach was also great -- food was eh, but the food at the pools looked MUCH better. Also to Daniella and Danny at the family pool and the pool closest to Mot Mot (respectively), they were great. We saw about 15 monkeys at the family pool running around in the trees, which was magical. Bill will take care of all your needs while you're there - take you to the grocery store, give the tour, make reservations, etc. Highly suggest having Tito come cook in the outdoor kitchen one evening. Kind of expensive, but one of the highlights of our stay. Todd was a great massage therapist. He and Gabby came to the villa and my husband and I had massages right there on the deck in the middle of an afternoon rain. It did rain almost every day, BUT never hindered our plans. Even with a light rain it was wonderful to sit by the pool under the umbrellas relax and check out the views. Overall, it was a truly memorable trip and we will definitely be suggesting to family and friends.

Room Tip: Villa Mot Mot was just big enough for my husband and I. Beautiful views and very private.

We've just spent 9 nights in Tulemar Gardens, in what they call "Select Villa".
Our global impression is very positive, and it was a wonderful stay.
The villa is nice, well furnished and maintained . Cleaning is done every day, towels, dishes, beds of course....
The terrace is very pleasant, we sometimes didn't feel like going out, and we had dinner in front of the incredible ocean view.
The staff,is very kind, efficient and professional. We had a head concierge (Eduardo) who took a great care of us, making reservation for the activities, giving good addresses and advices.
The only point that was a bit disappointing was the beach, because its very rocky with a grey sand not very welcoming.
The beaches in Manuel Antonio Park are much pleasant.
On the other hand the resorts is perfectly located with lots of very good a restaurants, bars, coffee shop, and sport activities.
Prices are not exactly low, but you have a real quality, a wonderfully environment and a perfect staff.
So the experience was more than ok, and we would be glad to come back her in the next years, because there is so much to see and to do in this area....

Hi micheletgab.....thanks for the wonderful comments on our resort and staff......glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our 1 Bedroom Select Villa.....they really do have great ocean views.....plus a large balcony to enjoy it all.......thanks for your comments on Eduardo too......a note about the beach......we had a HUGE storm just two weeks ago and the beaches all along the Pacific Coast were covered with rocks.....it was like the ocean just threw up......but they are almost all gone now and the beach looks just like it does in our photos....the ocean is reclaiming them all......sorry about that......we hope to have you back with us again!

I wasn't really sure what to expect as it was my first time in the country. After arriving, however, it became clear that we didn't have anything to worry about. We booked through Dave, and our concierge, Chris, arranged everything for us and was incredibly helpful. Amazing views, phenomenal beach, and plenty to do! I went with friends, and the resort seems more geared toward couples and families, but there is so much to do in the area it wasn't an issue. We went during the rainy season which wasn't that bad, but I'm sure you get a lot more beach time during peak season.

HI drpepperguy.......thanks for sharing the review of your stay in Tulemar......so glad you enjoyed your stay......and you are right....the rainy season is not bad......in fact, it's my favorite time of the year......warm and sunny in the daytime......perfect for the beach....tours/activities or just exploring the hiking trails at Tulemar......and then in the late afternoon....warm, tropical rains......for 1-2 hours.....or maybe the rest of the night.....or maybe none at all......a great time for reading.....a nap.....or watching the storm over the ocean from your balcony/deck or room.......and it's still warm.....shorts and t-shirts......and the next morning......warm and sunny again.......thanks for booking with us and we hope to have you back again!

This resort exceeded my expectations. After reading several reviews and viewing pictures on various websites I was expecting it to be nice but it totally exceeded my expectations. The bungalows are beautiful and the views are hard to beat of the ocean and rainforest. The staff treats you like a celebrity. Starting off with Pablo in reservations, Danny (pool bartender), Andreas, and the front desk staff went out of their way to accomodate us. They even drove us around to try and spot monkeys which are around the property. The resort is located on a hillside with steep hills to walk. I personally loved the climb but my husband chose to get a ride, which they are always available to shuttle you around the property. The private beach along with paths through the rainforest are all within walking distance. It is also walking distance to a grocery store, and restaurants.HIghly recommend this resort and I can not wait to return.
