“Perfect Family Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I stumbled on Tulemar Bunglalows & Villas while trying to plan our spring break vacation last year. Unfortunately, I waited too late and everything was booked when I called. Our twins are seniors in high school this year, and we wanted to go somewhere very special for our "last" spring break as a family. I remembered looking at this wonderful property last year, and Costa Rica sounded like the perfect place for our special vacation. We could not have made a better decision!

We invited another family to join us (my daughter's best friend and her parents) and they stayed in two different places during the week. We stayed in Casa Panorama, and it was perfect for our family. The view from our balcony was one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. We enjoyed having our morning coffee out there and watching for the monkeys, and every evening we would all meet to watch the sunset. The kids loved the jacuzzi on the second floor. They spent many afternoons soaking up the sun on the porch and enjoying the COOL water in the jacuzzi.

Our place was very well maintained. The housekeepers came every day and cleaned. My husband commented that they always spent a lot of time really cleaning! We never felt like they were in our way at all, and they were always very pleasant. My husband and son were not feeling well one day, and they were very considerate to work around them quietly. The next day they asked my son (who speaks some spanish) if he was feeling better. We did have an issue with the air conditioner, but we called Kimberly and she immediately had someone out to repair it.

Kimberly was there to help us from the minute we booked Casa Panorama until we left for the airport on the last day. She was wonderful! I sent her several e-mails prior to leaving for our trip, and she was great. By the time we arrived, I felt like we were friends. We arrived around eight o'clock at night from the airport. Kimberly quickly oriented us to the house and gave us suggestions for dinner. She realized we would need coffee for the morning, so she brought us a bag from home. The next morning she was there bright and early to take us to the market for groceries. She was very patient while our family wondered around getting groceries, and we appreciated her help/tips while there. It was very convenient to have her there. We were able to walk back later in the week as it was only a short distance from the resort. Kimberly also gave us great suggestions for restaurants close by. We loved Sancho's, a little taco stand close to the super market. It was one of our favorites! We ate at Barba Roja's, Victoria's, Kapi Kapi, and Cafe Milagro (yummy breakfast!)

We all loved having Roger and Harold come cook for us two nights! We contacted Kimberly before our arrival and told her we were interested in having a chef come in and cook one or two nights. However, after the first night we all agreed it was our favorite meal, and having them there was so much fun. We all just hung out and relaxed and had incredible food. They charged a flat fee for coming plus the cost of groceries. All of us enjoyed everything they made!

Our teenagers in the group (three 18 year olds) took surfing lessons. It was one of our favorite experiences. The instructors were great, and did an amazing job with the kids. Johnny seemed to be in charge. The instructors all looked younger than our kids, so we were a little concerned at first, but each of them had an instructor to himself. They provided a shady spot for those of us watching, and snacks and drinks for all. We felt like they spent a lot of time with the kids, and they REALLY wanted the kids to learn. Some of the instructors did not speak great English, but a couple of our kids had spanish so they could communicate with them. Don't miss this if you are considering it at all:) We also did the Canopy Ziplining Tour, and it was incredible. Again, I think the tour guides can make or break and experience, and in this case the guides make it! We felt safe and were highly entertained all day! It was a blast for all of us, and I hate heights.

I have had several people ask about our trip since our return. My response has been that it was "AMAZING!" It truly was a perfect family vacation. We all agreed that it was the perfect amount of adventure and relaxation. It is not the place for those who want to sit and be waited on hand and foot even though they do provide plenty of great service. It is a steep walk or a shuttle ride to the beach, but once you are there it is peaceful and beautiful and have beach service. The pools are beautiful and do have food and drink service as well.

We have fantastic photos and great memories we will cherish from our trip to Costa Rica. If you are considering a trip you should go! We have no regrets. Pura Vida!

We just returned from a week in Costa Rica, where we stayed at the Villa Mot Mot, in Tulemar Resort, Manuel Antonio. I can't say enough good things about this place, but I will try.
- The Villa - My family of four (2 kids, 12 and 7) stayed in the upper, my parents stayed in the lower. The villa itself is beautiful - the upper unit is an octagon, surrounded by windows, with a balcony overlooking the Pacific ocean. We woke up to monkeys playing in the hammock on the balcony one morning, and to a sloth sleeping in a nearby tree another. The diversity of birds, animals, and reptiles was amazing. And the lushness of the jungle all around us was wonderful - the villa felt like it was in the canopy! We spent a lot of time there, just marveling at our surroundings and watching the beautiful sunsets.
- The concierges - Bill, Vanessa, and Diego took incredible care of us. Vanessa communicated with us over email to prepare us for our trip - she scheduled outings and made great suggestions. Bill and Diego were our "go-to" guys during our stay, tending to all our needs - making sure we knew our way around, gave us suggestions about where to eat and what to do, and helped us keep our kitchen stocked. Bill went above and beyond, taking my husband to the pharmacy late one evening when my boy suddenly got sick! Thank you so much to all of you! Thanks also to Kristopher, the chef, who made us our final night's dinner in our villa - best meal of our week, not to be missed!
- The beach - the resort is laid out on the side of a hill, and at the bottom is the private beach. David tends to your needs there - providing lounge chairs, towels, food and drinks, boogie boards to ride the waves, and kayaks to take you out to sea. The water is warm as bathwater, the waves fun for all!
- The pools - Tulemar has three available, so even during the crowded Easter week we could always find somewhere that felt like our own private pool. And the Mango Slushies at the family pool kept us all going.....
- The excursions - at Bill and Diego's suggestions, we did the Canopy Safari Ziplining (so much fun!), we did a guided hike in Manuel Antonio Park (who knew you could find freshly laid frog eggs!?), and a kayak through the Mangrove forest (incredible!!). All worth every penny!

This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and was a wonderful experience, mostly due to our choice of Tulemar. Our thanks to all the staff there - it was the trip of a lifetime, and we look forward to returning someday soon!

Tulemar offered great service, as well as an amazing villa with a view of the ocean. We woke up to monkeys on our patio, and then went down to the beach for a decent breakfast. The staff ensured that all of our adventures were properly arranged, and confirmed everything for us every day. The kids pool are was a bit small, and not enough seating.
There were also good restaurants within walking distance.

What a great place. Simply beautiful. It took us - my husband, our two boys (ages 7 & 9) and me - a few days to realize this wasn't some Hollywood set, we really were in the Jungle. The grounds are immaculate; our Villa was updated, clean, super comfy (feather beds, feather comforters and feather pillows, oh my!); Tulemar Dave and the entire Tulemar staff was very professional and friendly; and the views from Buena Vista Select Villa #309 were the perfect mix of jungle and ocean (more jungle than ocean which turned out, we thought, to be the better of the two). I still dream of the view from the bedroom: you're literally in a glass tree house in the middle of the jungle. Villa 309 was the perfect distance from one of the three pools and it's perfectly located pretty much in-between the front desk and the beach. Monkeys, lizards and sloths abound.
We found that the best time to tour the property (due to the heat) was first thing in the morning, between 5:30-6:30am. The North and South Trails are beautiful and a don't miss. Also, the tide is super low at that time and the beach is huge, fun to explore.
Overall, we really liked the location of Tulemar too. It seemed to be the perfect distance from Quepos and not as over-the-top touristy as the area closer to MA park and beach. Near Tulemar you can walk to a few local spots to eat which we loved. We're usually not ones for private beaches but when we did check the public beach out, we were so glad we were staying at Tulemar with its safer swimming conditions, included beach amenities and perfectly located beach cafe.
Our concierge, Julien, booked four outings for us before we arrived. All I knew was I wanted to do the Vacation Buggy specifically but I also asked him to book us horseback riding, white-water rafting, and a nighttime jungle tour and he handled all the details from there. All four outings were truly perfect, made the trip an unforgettable experience and are highly recommended (under each I've written a review): Brisas Del Nara Horseback Riding, Don's Vacation Buggy Jungle & Waterfall Tour, Rafiki White Water Rafting, & Fincas Naturales Nighttime Jungle Tour. Julien also told us about the Quepos Farmer's Market on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and that was cool to check out. He also provided us with some great tips that I found very helpful...I'll let him offer those to you!
Try to do what we did if you can - have the TVs unplugged and the remotes hidden before you arrive, turn off your phones and don't bring an IPad - you'll have a truly relaxing experience. Pura Vida!

Room Tip: Buena Vista One-Bedroom Select Villa #309 has the perfect combo of jungle & ocean views and is p...

OVERVIEW:
My girlfriend and I have been dying to take a vacation and since this would be only my second time leaving the country, we wanted to be sure it was special. I did lots of research and everywhere else seemed to pale in comparison to Tulemar. We booked our stay at Casa Panorama Lower, which is made up of one bedroom, a fully appointed kitchen and living area, as well as a beautiful outdoor private deck with lounge chairs and even a BBQ.

FLIGHT/ PRE TULEMAR TOUR:
Our flight from Long Island took a little under 5 hours, then another 20 minute domestic plane to the much close Quepos airport to avoid a 3-4 hours van ride (highly recommend this option). We were greeted at this tiny airport by our conceirge Kimberly. On our way to the resort Kim gave us a quick tour of the Quepos area, showed us how to find everything, and even took us to the local market to stock up on some items for our kitchen. The area surround the resort ranges from beautiful looking beach from hotels, to very tiny sheet metal constructed homes. Kim did a fantastic job of putting us at ease and assuring we'd quickly feel at home. After the market, we finally drove into the resort itself and instantly couldn't help smiling from ear to ear.

FIRST IMPRESSION/ TULEMAR PROPERTY:
You immediatlly get a sence of seclusion and immersion when inside Tulemar. Everything from the roads, pools, private villas, and even the main lobby are brilliantly built into the jungle. The property is filled with beautul plants and landcaping, extremely clean perfect roads and paths, and amazing looking variety of homes. After a very quick check in, kim gave us a quick tour of the Tulemar property which seems a little confusing at first but you quickly learn the layout. Tulemar is built right into the mountain/hill so there are many steep hills and will be a challange if you choose to only walk, however there are ALWAYS shuttles avaiable so you never actually have to. My girlfriend are I love the outdoors and to exercise, but sometimes we even had to choose to take a shuttle, again this is no issue at all. During our entire week stay we were always amazing how many new things we found while walking the grounds and how many gergeous homes/condos are perfectly built into nature. From certain angles you will walk past a home thinking nothing of it, then from a second view realize its a 3 story villa with indoor swimming pool. As far as pools, we only used one which was the family pool. It was never crowded, always immicaulate as were all the grounds. Tulemar has a ton of hiking trails which are very challange but offer breathtakign views and are worth the effort.

Beach:
Tulemar has its own private beach which is essentially a giant cove surrounded by the mountains. The beach has more then enough lounge chairs and towels, as well as kayaks that can be used for free any time you desire. I strongly sugguest using the kayaks but beware of kayaking to the beach directly across from Tulemar as it is extremely rocky and almost impossible to walk in the water. The water is not crystal clear blue youd see in the Caribean but it is still beatuful and extremly warm, basically bath water. The beach has its own mini resturaunt but we did not order from there althought it looked good. There was never a crowd here and if you wanted total privacy there are always friendly works near by to bring a lounge chair further down the beach which was great. Overall the beach was incredible, where we spent the majority of our time.

Wild Life:
I'm sure anyone reading this has heard about the wild life in Tulemar, and it is all true. You will see monkeys, sloths, lizzards, and exotic birds basically every day. One occassion as we walked to the beach we had a monkey less then 5 feet away from us lounging around. As we approched him 10 more came and joined us, none seemed afraid and all were friendly. Another morning after sunrise we had close to 30 monkeys following eachother like a train all around our Casa. During you'r stay you will get very good at spotting them and it NEVER gets old.

ROOM:
Casa Panorama is a 3 story building, we stayed in the lower level. This is PERFECT for 2 people, I strongly reccomend booking this over a bungalo. The interior is modern and extremly clean with everything you need and more. The best part of this room has to be the private terrace. It is very large and features two loung chairs, a small table and chairs, as well as a grill. We spent a few nights grilling fresh caught fish, watching the sunsets which are possible the best you will ever see, and enjoying breakfast after a jog on the trails.

FOOD:
My girlfriend and I actually never ate any food from Tulemar but I know they have a simple menu. We love to cook so we used the kitchen mostly for lunch everyday. There are a TON of resturants outside the resort but I assure you they are within walking distance. First we ate at AGUA AZUL. This was a second floor resturant that is almost entirelly open minus a roof. I belive its thought of as a bit more upscale but the prices were comprable to the other resturaunts we tried. The food was very good and we did enjoy this. As an FYI, you should stick to fish as this is what they are best at in Costa Rica. The second resturant was called Ronnies Place. I would recommend others to check this out. Dont be afraid as it is basically in the middle of no wher eand does require a cab ride through a gravel road which was honestly a little scary at first. Ronnies is a very cool laid back place with a wonderful beach view. This was my second place pick. My first place resturaunt was CAFE MILAGRO. They are known for their coffee and breakfast but I assure you their dinner is delicious. This resturaunt is on the healthy side offering organic options. The flavors are amazing and they really know how to use spices and work with food. This was honsetly one of the best resturaunts my girlfriend and I have been to that serves healthy dishes. Overall, if you stick to seafood the food in the surround area was incredible.

ACTIVITIES:
During our stay we tried horseback riding and ziplining. Horseback riding was a great experience. You ride through a beautiful jungle and creek, eventually reaching a small waterfall. This particular area is so beautiful that we were told James Cameron used it as insipration for the planet in the AVATAR movie. Our guide CHE was histerical and an awesome guy, you will love him. Ziplining was also great, we went with TITI CANOPE. Both were very affordible and a great way to get a break from the beach sun.

OVERALL:
My girlfriend and I no question give our experience at Tulemar a PERFECT REVIEW. I must give a special mention to our consierge Kimberly. She really goes above and beyond and removes any stress and thinking what so ever from you and puts it on her. If you mention any activies she does literally everything from booking it, to being at your house when the shuttle comes to pick you up to assure things run perfectly. One day I mentioned my girlfriend and I were looking to cook fresh fish and she went to the market for us and delivered fresh mahi mahi and red snapper to our door. I always say I want to try new places but is going to be extremely hard to find a place that can compare to Tulemar!

In early March my mother and I had the remarkable experience of staying at Villa Mot Mot in Costa Rica! Prior to arriving we had been provided with fabulous information regarding tours, local restaurants, etc.... We were able to schedule our tours in advance and found that ALL of our guides had extensive knowledge of the area. When we arrived we met Diego, Bill, and Vanessa who would be helping us during the week. Our Villa had been stocked with food and drinks we had requested.... And the following day we were given a personal tour of the property. Anything we needed or wanted was provided promptly with a simple phone call.
We were able to see both the squirrel and white face monkeys as they stopped to play on our balcony daily! At times it was hard to leave knowing we would miss the monkeys as they jumped on the hammock and rolled around at our feet! We enjoyed the private beach (also watching the monkeys and sloths), kayaking, and swimming in the warm water. At night we would relax by watching the sunset into the ocean! One of our highlights was having the chef cook us dinner in our Villa.... It was a delightful evening and the food was the best we had all week. We are both planning to return to Mot Mot.... Our balcony was surrounded by the branches of the trees with a stunning view,of the ocean, definitely a wonderful experience with service second to none!

Room Tip: Upper Mot Mot is exactly like he videos you see online... Even with a telescope on the balcony. The...
