I stumbled on Tulemar Bunglalows & Villas while trying to plan our spring break vacation last year. Unfortunately, I waited too late and everything was booked when I called. Our twins are seniors in high school this year, and we wanted to go somewhere very special for our "last" spring break as a family. I remembered looking at this wonderful property last year, and Costa Rica sounded like the perfect place for our special vacation. We could not have made a better decision!
We invited another family to join us (my daughter's best friend and her parents) and they stayed in two different places during the week. We stayed in Casa Panorama, and it was perfect for our family. The view from our balcony was one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. We enjoyed having our morning coffee out there and watching for the monkeys, and every evening we would all meet to watch the sunset. The kids loved the jacuzzi on the second floor. They spent many afternoons soaking up the sun on the porch and enjoying the COOL water in the jacuzzi.
Our place was very well maintained. The housekeepers came every day and cleaned. My husband commented that they always spent a lot of time really cleaning! We never felt like they were in our way at all, and they were always very pleasant. My husband and son were not feeling well one day, and they were very considerate to work around them quietly. The next day they asked my son (who speaks some spanish) if he was feeling better. We did have an issue with the air conditioner, but we called Kimberly and she immediately had someone out to repair it.
Kimberly was there to help us from the minute we booked Casa Panorama until we left for the airport on the last day. She was wonderful! I sent her several e-mails prior to leaving for our trip, and she was great. By the time we arrived, I felt like we were friends. We arrived around eight o'clock at night from the airport. Kimberly quickly oriented us to the house and gave us suggestions for dinner. She realized we would need coffee for the morning, so she brought us a bag from home. The next morning she was there bright and early to take us to the market for groceries. She was very patient while our family wondered around getting groceries, and we appreciated her help/tips while there. It was very convenient to have her there. We were able to walk back later in the week as it was only a short distance from the resort. Kimberly also gave us great suggestions for restaurants close by. We loved Sancho's, a little taco stand close to the super market. It was one of our favorites! We ate at Barba Roja's, Victoria's, Kapi Kapi, and Cafe Milagro (yummy breakfast!)
We all loved having Roger and Harold come cook for us two nights! We contacted Kimberly before our arrival and told her we were interested in having a chef come in and cook one or two nights. However, after the first night we all agreed it was our favorite meal, and having them there was so much fun. We all just hung out and relaxed and had incredible food. They charged a flat fee for coming plus the cost of groceries. All of us enjoyed everything they made!
Our teenagers in the group (three 18 year olds) took surfing lessons. It was one of our favorite experiences. The instructors were great, and did an amazing job with the kids. Johnny seemed to be in charge. The instructors all looked younger than our kids, so we were a little concerned at first, but each of them had an instructor to himself. They provided a shady spot for those of us watching, and snacks and drinks for all. We felt like they spent a lot of time with the kids, and they REALLY wanted the kids to learn. Some of the instructors did not speak great English, but a couple of our kids had spanish so they could communicate with them. Don't miss this if you are considering it at all:) We also did the Canopy Ziplining Tour, and it was incredible. Again, I think the tour guides can make or break and experience, and in this case the guides make it! We felt safe and were highly entertained all day! It was a blast for all of us, and I hate heights.
I have had several people ask about our trip since our return. My response has been that it was "AMAZING!" It truly was a perfect family vacation. We all agreed that it was the perfect amount of adventure and relaxation. It is not the place for those who want to sit and be waited on hand and foot even though they do provide plenty of great service. It is a steep walk or a shuttle ride to the beach, but once you are there it is peaceful and beautiful and have beach service. The pools are beautiful and do have food and drink service as well.
We have fantastic photos and great memories we will cherish from our trip to Costa Rica. If you are considering a trip you should go! We have no regrets. Pura Vida!
