We stayed here with friends who were previous guests and we were very pleased with the experience. One must remember that even though Manuel Antonio is growing into a pricey little resort, Costa Rica is still a third world country. Tres Banderas is a little gem that offers much for the price (perhaps the lowest in the area). My husband and I shared the deluxe accommodations - part of the newer duplex unit. We stayed in one of these rooms during one stay during our two weeks in the country and in the other during our second stay. The rooms were very spacious and private with dark wood French doors leading out to lovely little balcony surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. The owner and all personnel were very friendly and accommodating - all service and food were simply excellent. For lunch try the homemade periogis with potatoes, cheese and bacon - a Polish specialty. A bonus is the visiting monkeys who sometimes come for bananas in the early morning or later in the afternoon - just delightful! Previous reviewers either have very high expectations or just happened to catch the place at bad times. The dog bothers no one and can be very friendly if you make the effort. We felt like guests at someone's private residence. We truly love this place and will stay here again without question.
