“You have to stay here!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My husband and I took a belated honeymoon trip to Manuel Antonio in April 2015. The management, service, and grounds were all amazing! We spent 10 days total at the hotel, the first 4 days in the Honeymoon Suite with a private balcony and hot tub. We woke up every morning with the sunrise shining into our room. There were monkeys constantly playing on our balcony and the roof in the morning which was a great treat! The views from this room were amazing!! We downgraded to an ocean front room and the views were still breathtaking. Our second room had a balcony with a hammock and a tub inside the room with a window that opened up overlooking the coast. The rooms were beautiful and didn't seem to need any updating. The rooms were cleaned beautifully with no complaints.

The breakfast buffet every morning was a perfect start to our day. The food was great and there was an egg station with fresh toppings, as well as the typical rice and beans. The pool was a nice place to relax, but we also went to the beach a few times using the hotel taxi. Make sure to head out to the pool for sunset to watch the sun set over the ocean. (Also for a great sunset check out Ronny's Place)

Overall, we were treated like kings and would not have changed a thing! Every request was met with a smile and we had plenty of help planning our activities. We will be returning to La Mariposa !!!! Pura Vida!!

In the interest of full disclosure, I have a home in Manuel Antonio. That being said, I always make it a point to stop in to La Mariposa when we are in Costa Rica. It's true that, as another reviewer said, the rooms could use some updating, but I wouldn't think this would stop one from staying at Mariposa. First and foremost there is the location: It's on one of the highest points in Manuel Antonio, so there are spectacular, panoramic views from most places on the hotel grounds. Having lunch at the pool bar is an experience we never miss. Also the hotel itself is just off the main road; so, unlike other hotels in the area, getting to the bus, waiting for a taxi or walking to one of the nearby shops is not a hassle. Then there is the pool: A huge wrap around infinity pool on the edge of a large deck with a few strategically placed almendra trees for those who need some shade. Fabulous! There's a reason Conde Nast Traveler did a cover on that pool!

As far as the restaurant goes, I have every reason to believe that Mariposa's new Belgian executive chef will continue Mariposa's tradition of excellent dining. I had the sesame encrusted tuna for lunch at the pool and it was very good. So the bottom line: True, the rooms are a bit dated; but the location is excellent; the pool is spectacular and the restaurant I suspect will continue to be well thought of.

Room Tip: No elevator, so you may want to book a lower floor room, since there's probably not a bad view i...

The panoramic view alone is reason enough to stay here, but there are great rooms, beautiful gardens, caring and solicitous service, excellent restaurants, a large pool with that great view, and a bunch more. Wish we had planned for one more day!

Beautiful place looking over the pacific. Our room had an amazing view. The entire staff was beyond fantastic. Every request was met with a smile and they always did more than what we asked. We actually felt catered too and spoiled Their restaurant is superb as well and bartenders were great! Felt sad leaving and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: The rooms over looking the ocean are beautiful

Located on top of the hill, in a quiet area but enough restaurants outside the hotel to choose from.

We had quite a large room, with a beautiful view and terrace.

Unfortunately the room looked unfinished and had a strange layout with a sink in the middle of the room instead of in the bathroom.

We had a mini bar but the content was missing. Also the floor continued to be wet for some reason.

House cleaning wasn't able to clean up the room like one would expect (a bit sloppy leaving plates and not refilling coffee and providing us with worn down towels). We needed to pick up our laundry from reception, it had probably been ready for two days.

The breakfast buffet was a disappointment because of lack of choice and service. Asking for coffee and water three times and ending up having to get it myself.

Bar and swimming pool were fine although they should start providing towels at the swimming pool.

In summary: with the right management, some refurbishment and some other changes this could be a great hotel and worth the money you have to pay today.

This was our first time in Manuel Antonio. We booked this hotel based on the reviews. The breakfast is included (gallo pinto, omelet station, fried plantains, yogurt, fruit, bread, bacon, etc.) and they also have free WIFI. The view of the pacific from the restaurant is amazing. It was so nice having breakfast with the beautiful view. We stayed in room 26 which had a partial view of the ocean. The room is very modern and it has AC. The only drawback for me were the beds, they are a little hard for me, but I am used to sleeping on a pillow top. This hotel is close to the Manuel Antonio beach and park. The hotel offers free shuttles to and from the beach/Manuel Antonio park. The staff is super friendly and Nice. BYRON at the front desk was the best. He treated us like royalty. We asked him for restaurant recommendations and when we showed up at one of the restaurants he took the initiative to call ahead to let the restaurant we were coming. He is super professional, super sweet, and extremely nice.

The food at the hotel is not bad but it is a little pricey and so are the drinks. The hotel is also close to the main street but it is not recommended to walk on the main street since there are no sidewalks and it is a little dark at nights. So be careful if you do decide to walk around.

The hotel has two swim up bar pools, one upstairs and one downstairs. It has a hot tub and an infinity pool with an amazing view of the ocean. The pool was never crowded while we were there. This hotel is very peaceful and sort of hidden. We will be coming back some day.

Room Tip: Partial ocean view rooms are nice.

This hotel has breathtaking views of the Pacific as soon as you walk up the stairs to the reception desk. The large, contemporary covered open air dining area is right in front of where you walk the steps to the desk and it is so romantic and gorgeous. The pools adjoining the dining area are overlooking the ocean and you wish you could live right there in the hotel!! The staff is very cordial and professional. The rooms are spacious and the only surprise is the screen in the bathroom window. It can get very humid and you wish there was a closed window to keep the bathroom cool. Other than that, La Mariposa is just too gorgeous to say the least. Take the free van to the beach or visit Manuel Antonio Park and hire a guide there at the entrance. You will see insects, sloths, monkeys etc. that are too easily camouflaged in the dense jungle. The beautiful beach has white sand, a curvy coastline but no food is available to be bought at that beach so bring your own. Do watch for raccoons that will try and rummage through your food.
