“Convenient to the town, fantastic view of the ocean from hotel restaurant and infinity pool with every changing colors.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

We visited Costa Rica in mid July 2012 (mentioned July 2013, but Trip Advisor didn't give me a choice earlier than October 2012) on an REI family adventure trip. Hotel Mariposa was one of the three hotels we stayed, the other two being, the Arenal Observatory hotel near the Volcano and Hotel Bougainvillea in San Jose. The other two were also quite nice.

Hotel Mariposa was a beautiful hotel with an infinity pool with changing colors at night. Only complaint is the the hot tub wasn't all that warm. On the open restaurant terrace during breakfast, one could watch the birds soar by, sing their trill songs, view the beautiful ocean and coastal shores as well as watch the sunset in the evening.

The rooms were extremely spacious. There was TV in every room.. There was a bit of a walk for some of the rooms, which was my only complaint and that because of the humidity, a lot of bugs were able to escape into the rooms.

But the location couldn't have been better. It was a very short walk down to the main town with loads of wonderful restaurants and shops.. and a very short taxi or bus ride down to the Manuel San Antonia National Park with an abundance of protected wildlife, from sloths, to spider monkeys, orb spiders, raccoons, iguanas, white faced capuchin monkeys and if you were lucky to see them, crocodiles! And I need to mention the wonderful hiking trails and beautiful beaches.

Mid July was rainy season for Costa Rica, but were were lucky to have been rained on only one afternoon throughout our 10 day trip.

Room Tip: Stay in a upstairs room so not so many critters crawl into your room. And also you will have a bette...

Visited this place all day while in Costa Rica. We loved this place it was like paradise! Good food and amazing view. Unfortunately we returned for breakfast the following day and breakfast was 25$ per person which was a bit ridiculous. But that being said probably the best view in Manuel Antonio.

This hotel has views from its multiple, beautiful pools that are truly spectacular. You can see the Manuel Antonio beach, look out over the national park on one side, then watch the waves break against the rocky shore on the other side of the point. The rooms offer a similar view, and are very comfortable and clean. And then, on the other side of the hotel you can look out over the incredibly green mountains, and watch the monkeys eating mangoes in the trees. If it were not so expensive, I would live here. Walking to restaurants is easy, though I would wear some bright or reflective clothes at night since there's no real sidewalk on the busy road. Didn't go to the private beach, but the public Manuel Antonio beach is great.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor if you don't mind stairs- the views are amazing. The little garden apartme...

This is the best place to visit for amazing unobstructed views of Manuel Antonio. Their outdoor dining area is beautiful. Overlooking the infinity pool & the ocean. The food was delicious as well, Pricey, but that's to be expected as this is more of an upscale dining experience. I enjoyed the surf & turf for dinner along with a tasty Mai Tai. Service was great. This is a must do for anyone visiting the area. Tip: Try to visit around 4:30/5pm to catch a view of an amazing sunset. It's absolutely beautiful!!

If a view is what you are wanting, then you won't get a better one than Hotel La Mariposa. It's at the very top of the hill in Quepos. The location didn't bother us because within walking distance there were several great restaurants and about 2 miles from the hotel is a private little beach area that we walked to. There is a shuttle that will take you to the main (tourist) beach that we did use once, but it's just that...a tourist beach! Very crowded, a little dirty, lots of vendors trying to sell you things. It's something to see perhaps, but more so a tourist trap. The beaches inside Manuel Antonio National Park are gorgeous! Take your suit so once you pay your entrance fee you don't have to go back. Those beaches and the small one near hotel were the best.

As far as the hotel room, they are clean enough, but not super cozy. If you like clean and modern, then they are okay. Pool is nice, but not heated. Hot tub, nice but not hot...more like bath water. We just went in August and since it was the rainy season, it can tend to be a little chilly with the rain. A heated pool would have been nice. There is a swim up pool by the bar, but it was ice cold. No one used it as a result. Staff was friendly, but probably the worst service we had of all the places we stayed in terms of attending to your needs. Poolside service, etc.

The included breakfast was really yummy and served every day. That was an added bonus. And many guests said that they saw white faced monkeys come and visit. We weren't so lucky.

All in all it was just okay, but if I went back to that area, I would stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: We have the double ocean view room and I think it is the best they have to offer. It was the best th...

We traveled from Scottsdale,AZ. to Costa Rica in July 22-27,2013.... Our first time going there, so I was concerned about the roads and the hotels. I researched and I found this hotel ..with good reviews ....so I called there and for my surprise the person who answered me, Andrey ... Gave me a better offer that the one given by the Internet!
This was just the beginning of a lot of courtesy and excellent service ..
He organized our tours and our transportation services from San Jose to Quepos ...
My kids will never forget this vacations!! They loved Costa Rica and their people!
If you go there.. Do not forget to ask for Andrey... To receive a VIP service !!

We stayed here for three nights. The views are terrific. The rooms are large and clean. It is convenient to the beach and the park. Overall the staff was great. The restaurant were so-so, but there were other decent options close. But a wonderful hotel.
