Great views ...but lacking in many other services. We chose this hotel from the beautiful pictures and because it is listed in the 1000 Places to see before you Die book. We did enjoy the hotel, however, you need to know that the view is really the main/only thing you are buying. The hotel is walking distance to many places because of its central location. We took the very cheap (.50 US) public bus from the stop by the hotel when the shuttle was not worth waiting for to get us to the beach. However, the hotel has very little to do or enjoy if the weather is not perfect. Be forewarned, that main building has only outside, wrought-iron open stairs to all 4 stories. If it is raining, you are going to get wet. If you don't like heights - choose another hotel. Also, every member of our family of 5 slipped on the entry paver tiles in the rain regardless of footwear. The jacuzzi and pools are solar heated. Great for the environment but it rained and was overcast every day. They were never warm. The breakfast buffet was good but very pedestrian compared to others we had in Costa Rica. The internet service is not good. Even sitting under the router in the lobby we could only connected a few times and the speed was molasses. Sebastian at the front desk was helpful many times and the swim-up pool bar was staffed by a great guy who taught us to make grasshoppers out of banana leaves one day when we were trapped with a sick child and tons of rain. They do have a pool table and the gift shop/art gallery has better prices than shops in town with better quality. I would stay here again but only because I would know what I was getting the second time around.
