My husband and I and our 24 year old son stayed at Costa Verde from March 18th - 23rd. Loved it! We stayed in a Studio with AC in B-14 which is on the third and top floor. We lucked out and had a view of the ocean off to one side and the woods in front. From our landing we could see a lot of Costa Verde, the beach and the park. Costa Verde is designed like a camp, all the signs are wood like you see at many State Parks. The rooms are campy feeling too with lots of wood and plenty of space to move around.
The shower is a nice size with good water pressure. There is a full size mirror in the main room with plug nearby which helps to free up the bathroom. The kitchen had a 4 burner stove, medium size refrigerator and a coffee maker. Plenty adequate for our needs which were mainly breakfast and snacks. (Super Joseth is a good store 5 minutes before Costa Verde for coffee and other food) Had a few ants, but that's normal in places with kitchens of any kind in CR. Saw no other insects in our room. Our room was very clean.
The 2 Queen beds were comfortable and had regular pillows of various thicknesses. There was good reading lights next to both beds and a good overhead light that lit the room very well. Just your basic TV which was fine for us as we don't watch on vacation except for some news. The Air Conditioner is partially over one of the beds but the air direction can be directed up so it doesn't blow onto the person in the bed. My son kept turning the temp up because it was making it colder on his side of the room, so we used the fan over our bed to keep the air circulating which worked fine. Getting him another blanket solved the problem for all of us.
The balcony's are private and generous and we had 3 fantastic Costa Rican rockers, a slatted chair and a native wood table on our balcony. Lots of wildlife at Costa Verde. We even had 14 geckos on our outside landing because they were catching bugs at the light. Saw monkeys, heard howlers, had Iguana's in the tree next to our balcony, and saw other lizards. (Get up early for more Monkey sightings) Don't leave anything small on your balcony that you want to keep, I saw a Capuchin checking out my camera equipment one day.
The only down side to B building is that from the balcony you can hear some of the louder trucks on the main road below but it wasn't a problem at night since the AC canceled them out. But on the other hand we were very close to Anaconda Restaurant and the entrance to Costa Verde. It was pretty hot and humid when we were there so we were glad for the AC, but there are ceiling fans over both beds, so you can go without if you like.
If you have a car the parking lots for each building are close by your building. The Manuel Antonio Beach and Village are only about 5 minutes south by car. It's walkable if you're on a tight budget but watch the traffic.
The grounds are beautiful with plantings next to the paved paths, yet at the same time the grounds are quite natural and jungly. The adult pool area and view is very pretty and they have a bartender. The pool for B building is enclosed by jungle and is close enough to the Restaurant to get yourself a drink or something to eat. You will have to climb some steps to get there.
We ate breakfast at Anaconda and the food was good, but my husband thought it was expensive. The French Toast is some of the best I've ever had! The service is good, one morning we needed breakfast served very fast as a tour was picking us up in 20 minutes. They had our scrambled eggs, bacon and breads on our table in 5 minutes. The orange juice tastes fresh. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and serene. We had meals at all the other restaurants that are slightly off property. El Cantina was fine for the first night, not spectacular, but a pretty setting and they have music. El Avion was very good plus interesting. My husband had a National Hebrew hot dog w/potato salad at El Wagon which filled the bill because he needed something simple one day while my son and I were on a tour. They all have nice tropical settings.
We found everyone at Costa Verde to be friendly and helpful. Their advice for tours is very good. We did the Mangrove Tour and the Canopy Safari zip lines tour and enjoyed both very much. We also found the gift shop to be reasonably priced for some souvenir items. There are two computers next to the office under the porch roof which is a pleasant spot with comfortable chairs. You buy your time and then you can use it throughout your visit as needed. It wasn't much but I can't remember the price. Make sure you completely log off or somebody else can use your time.
Costa Verde is definitely where we'll stay next time we're in Manuel Antonio for it's value, natural setting, wildlife, and proximity to the park and beach.
Two of our favorite outside restaurants were Agua Azul and Marlin's in Manuel Antonio Village across from the beach. Do get into Quepos, good shopping and an interesting town.
