“Best View in Manuel Antonio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2010

The first day at Costa Verde, we were greeted by a group of 12 white-faced monkeys by the pool. This was a real thrill and we didn't see them again the rest of the stay.

I read in a guide book to ask for a room away from the road, and we did, so there wasn't much noise at night. The staff was very helpful. The restaurants, I think there are four of them, have excellent service and great food at a reasonable price. There are several small hiking trails on property which were fun to do with our six-year-old.

No one was staying in the fuselage, so we got a tour the 727 which was super cool.

I'd definitely recommend Costa Verde Hotel if you are visiting Manuel Antonio.

The Hotel Costa Verde has it all. Our room was clean and bright, had a small kitchen, air conditioning, and stunning views from our balcony. We enjoyed plenty of quality time taking in the incredible views at the pool and enjoying the restaurants. The beach, national park, and plenty of great restaurants are within walking distance, as long as you don't mind walking on the narrow shoulder of a steep, windy road. We spent four nights of our honeymoon at the Costa Verde and are so glad we did!

My wife and I were happy with our four night stay in Dec 2009. We stayed in section D, which had a large room with a frig and a private porch overlooking the ocean. Staff was very helpful. Its not a luxury hotel, but it was nice, the rooms were clean, and the AC worked well. We saw monkeys one day from our porch, and all four days from the restaraunt.

We stayed here for three nights on our final stop in Costa Rica. This property is huge and is well situated on the hill with a beautiful view of the ocean and the beach. We stayed in B7 , a junior suite which had a balcony facing east and had a good view. The room was spacious with a king and a queen size beds.
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. There were two restaurants (Anaconda and La Cantina) on the property that served excellent fares. We had a good meal at Anaconda on the first night and two dinners at La Cantina that had live music at lower level alongside a huge grill. La Cantina is a very lively place - they serve very good sangria.
There is a full size airliner on the property that is offered for accommodation. It is very impressive. Proximity to the beach is 15 minute walk downhill and half hour uphill. It is on the bus route so one can take a bus instead of walking (~250 colones each way).
Our experience at this hotel capped a memorable trip to Costa Rica - pura vida.

Traveled to Manuel Antonio for 6 nights. Stayed 5 nights in Studio Plus B4 and 1 night in D2 which was either a studio or efficiency. Both rooms were very nice and clean. Not a single complaint. Views are magnificent. Family pools were never crowded and very enjoyable. Walks through the property were just amazing. We really enjoyed eating at the Anaconda. Food was very good and view was spectacular. Front desk was helpful whenever needed. Internet cards were available for purchase and they had a handy little gift shop. Public bus to beach and Quepos stops right at Costa Verde so that was very convenient and was only 230 colones. Cabs to beach were $6. We booked our own excursions with Iguana Tours and they were wonderful. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this hotel. I'm really baffled by the negative reviews as I've stayed at a lot of different places. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The only word of advice is to get those calf muscles in shape as there are many steps and hills to climb in the Manuel Antonio area. As far as monkey's, you have to be in the right place at the right time. They come through once or twice a day, but don't stay around the premises. We saw a large troup on our last day outside our room as they were traveling through.

I have stayed here 2 times, once in the main adult building which has a terrace and kitchenette and great views, and once in a cabina with a private patio and smaller kitchetnete, both were great. More a lodge than a hotel, which I prefer, its still nice and relaxing, the 2 pools are great, and the bar/airplane across road excellent food and live music. Its a great option for a family or a couple.

There are nicer places to stay in Manual Antonio, but this rustic and charming lodge has a nice Tico feel that makes going to CR part of the fun, in my 35 trips to the country.

Enjoy

We stayed in the regular studio room, with a double bed and a twin bed, as well as a kitchenette. The restaurants around the hotel were good, with average prices ($10-$12 per plate).
* Monkeys were fun to watch during breakfast and at the pool
* View from our room was great!
* Staff spoke English very well and for the most part, was very helpful

This hotel was nice, but we will probably stay elsewhere with our next visit:
* The shower water pressure was horrible. Our friends had the same issue in their Studio Plus room. We joked about using the pool showers instead of the showers in our rooms!
* Our room was located in Area A which was, no lie, at the top of a 45-degree hill. The first day or two it was novel, but got to be a real pain coupled with the humidity.
* We found it much cheaper to book activities and grab taxi's ourselves, rather than through the front desk. Prices tended to be less expensive this way. For instance, were quoted $95/ person for 2.5 hour ATV ride at the hotel, and in town, we found a tour for 4.5 hours at $95/ person (plus a $10 discount for paying cash - ATV Quad Adventures in Quepos).
* Had to buy beach towels since the hotel asks you to not take the bath towels to the beach and they do not provide them...$15/towel was the cheapest I could bargain for at the beach.
* We had one blanket per bed, so we had to double up with the blanket from our twin bed. The blankets are typical Mexican style blankets, and while warm, often lost in the battle with the a/c at night - we ended up sleeping without the a/c to keep from getting cold (not a good thing when you factor in the humidity).
