“still more monkeys than people... so true !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

As a native costarrican after almost 25 years I still get excited to spend another glorious weekend at Manuel Antonio beach and picturesque town of Quepos. The hotel I used recently closed so had to look for a new option. Watching my BUDGET decided to check Costa Verde and guess what ... found another wonderful reason to keep coming back: amazing gardens, wildlife everywhere, friendly and efficient staff, spotless place, THE most fantastic view from the adult swimming pools and just a short drive to the beach. A wonderful place to stay.

“Better monkey sightings here than at the national parks!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Great place! Sunrise and sunsets the squirrel monkeys fill the trees all around the hotel and restaurant! We got some fantastic pictures of them. We stayed in room R 2 . It was the size of an apartment , with a decent view of the ocean but right below the restaurant. If you're not an early riser you will be woken up around 6 am. The staff was very helpful and responsive. I returned after a week hoping to find my battery charger I left behind and they searched all over for me including driving to the laundry building and letting me check the room.
Stunning views of the ocean from the adult pool and a short drive to the beach. A heads up about parking on the beach. Many people will try flag you down to get $4 from you to park your car. They are not officially working for anyone but themselves and most likely will not be there when you get back. Tell them you will pay them when you return to your car.

“Nature off your balcony!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I didn't know until checking in at the front desk that this hotel's motto was "more monkeys than people". 3 out of 4 mornings there was some type of wildlife off our balcony and greeting us at breakfast. There were better, up close and personal animal encounters with sloths, monkeys and lizards here than any guided nature trail I've ever been on. Super cool. Sloths apparently are as common as our possum in America it seems. We saw two on the hotel property that you could touch if you dared - they were within arms reach and not exactly moving at rocket speed.

Our room had a fantastic view of the ocean and bay. Absolutely gorgeous with a large porch to sit out and enjoy the breeze and view. Somewhat large refrigerator, even a stove top for cooking with pots and pans should you choose to bring your family and cook. Good size, plenty of room. Our room was somewhat close to reception and I was initially disappointed when I saw the rest of the sprawling property. However it's closeness to the restaurant that served breakfast, lunch and dinner was extremely convenient. If you have an early departure, breakfast is quick and at the end of the day you can stop off for a couple of drinks before retiring to the room, a short, easy walk away.

$$ - Everyone and everywhere takes dollars, and if you don't want to convert they were almost always shown with the tally in Colones and Dollars. Very convenient for us - until you learn a quick way to do the conversion - then it's a nice back up.

4 restaurants - all good! El Avion seems to have the best "vibe" in my opinion. The bar inside C-123? was very cool with good drinks, although the rest of the restaurant is also amazing and every restaurant there has gorgeous views. Service is definitely at a leisurely pace but breakfast at the main restaurant was quick even for American standards. Everything closed around 1030pm but honestly, after a day in the sun, ocean and or jungle - we were in bed by 1100 at the latest and we like to drink! Another option we used our last night was just to stay out in town after the beach and eat there just to see how it compared. People watching was fun, limited on food options, and the cab was only 2$ home to the hotel. We walked the hill back 3 times and although it's do-able, it's not a joke either! It's quite steep!

3 pools - one for adults only that once again - had an amazing view! And a bar. Always nice..

Loved, loved, loved this place - but it would have been nice to be a tad bit closer to the actual beach.

Room Tip: Depends on if you want a view, privacy, or both!

“Does not live up to the hype.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The bed sheets are rougher than sand and are the same material as the drapes used in the room.Terrible wifi connection due to lack of sufficient routers, you might get lucky and get a room in which their wifi is on your balcony. Breakfast not included and international calls are not included neither are local calls if I remember correctly. Also further from the beach than we expected and no included beach towels. Towels are only for bath and pool use. No jacuzzi anywhere.

On the good side the view is amazing several species of monkeys visit during the day right up to your balcony. Iguanas sun bath beside you at the pool. Bottom line for the competition that, that section of the country has to fight with you'd expect them to reach out more with the perks.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience. It is unfortunate that you were not comfortable. We are a mid-range hotel and we use standard bedding that is common in the industry. We do not have comforters, but our bed coverings (not the sheets) are a heavy weave that is also used on the windows.

We apologize if you had intermittent WiFi. We do have a sufficient number of routers and only experience an occasional overload during peak times in high season. We are also in the process of building a new network that better supports the increase in Smartphones and other handheld devices over the last few years.

Unfortunately we no longer offer towels for the beach. It became quite an expense to replace the many that were left behind at the beach. And, the towels that were returned to us often came back with an amount of sand that was not healthy for our washing machines. As an alternative we have bamboo beach mats available for the beach. Our apologies if our staff did not recommend this option to you.

Local calls are .20 per minute
International calls are .30 per minute.

We're glad to hear that you enjoyed our extraordinary views while hanging out with our jungle friends.

“Great Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Stayed at Costa Verde for a week and property was absolutely beautiful. The only reason I did not give this my top rating is simply because my room was a little smaller than typical in Costa Rica but this may have just been bad luck. Monkeys visited three of the days and a sloth slept in a tree right outside of our room it was Amazing! The pools are excellent, the adult only pool stunning views. The service overall was excellent although I did deal with one or two people that seemed a bit off. The only drawback for some may be the size, this is a huge complex although the vegitation does give you a very good sense of privacy. Moderately priced it was a great stay and I would definately go back!
