“Good room and great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

The superior room in the adult section of the hotel had a great view of the beach even though it was considered a "partial ocean view". The kitchenette with full size fridge was sufficiently stocked and very handy. The beds were comfortable and big enough for two people. The shower had hot water but only medium pressure. The balcony was big with table and chairs.

the staff was ok. Not overly helpful. They did not offer to carry my heavy luggage up the stairs to the room. They did not explain what was available at the hotel. I learned later that there was a swim up bar? The restaurant closed early (before 9pm) but there is another one across the street.

The wifi in the room was strong enough, but was knocked out during a storm one night. The electricity did stay on during the storm and there were candles in the room.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel. Good room and location. The staff arranged tours. The room was very comfortable.

Room Tip: Superior room is good. The partial ocean view seems like a full view to me. The beds are big enough...

I´ve stayed in this hotel a couple of times. This year first in March and then in August. The room that we had in March was AWESOME: secluded, surrounded by trees, very quiet. The one in August was not that great, as it had a lot of noise from the street and the toilet could use some replacing of tiles and toilet seat. All in all, the rooms were clean. The pool has a great view, though I´d love it if it had some shade. The "Avión" restaurant offers a good view and the food is great, though a little pricy for national tourists. If you are a resident, ask for the discount when calling to make the reservation!

I had three friends from the states to entertain during the rainy season so I rented the airplane house. It was great and amazing all at the same time. The view was great and we loved the bedrooms and baths!!!!! The monkeys came out first thing in the a.m. For a bit of frolicking! They seem to like the plane!
I would highly recommend this crib!

Let's start with the restaurants:: One open for breakfast only, BBQ open at night, Wagon open at night-Pizza only, El Avion open at noon. NO HAPPY HOUR like most of the other restaurants and hotels in the area who DO have a happy hour. Menu was stateside prices and, compared to other restaurants, MUCH higher. We stayed in Penthouse for 10 days We wanted no A/C: and got it.our building was under renovation, so starting at 0730-2100 we experienced, sledge hammering, hammers, hammer drills, radial arm saws, polyurethane painting that would gag you, etc. Forget a nap or sleeping late. What did they do to compensate us? Free Breakfast! What a deal! Less than 10 % of room cost!! They couldn't move us to the airplane, for example, since it was just as bad there! I would have shut down the hotel to complete and then let people back in. Pool under renovation....until our last three days. TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY. Hotel staff was great, especially waiters in the restaurant for breakfast....the ONLY reason we stayed. We won't go back. We can eat in the states just as inexpensive. They're converting to all A/C which will ruin the ambiance....you can do A/C in a Marriott, but you could have lived a bit of Costa Rica in the jungle surrounded by exotic birds, monkeys, lizards, Iguana, etc.....

Room Tip: Costa Verde ii is only place to stay if without kids

Thank you for your review and honest opinion. We wish your stay had been better. Our restaurant hours do change during our low season. We have now posted that on our website in the hopes of setting better expectations for our guests. We have four restaurants here at Costa Verde so there is always something available. Our prices are competitive in the market and actually lower in many cases. But yes, it is true that many visitors are surprised to see that prices, especially for food throughout Costa Rica, are comparable to prices in the US or Canada.

Our website has also now been updated to reflect the renovations made in our adult-only Costa Verde II section. We too had a very hard time letting go of our open-air rooms without A/C. But, after years of contemplating we responded to our guest requests for A/C.

Our apologies for the construction and not offering a more suitable move for you. We do our best to accommodate room change requests based on room availability. And, our 727 is in high demand so it is difficult to make that available on short notice.

We hope you reconsider us if you visit in the future. Pura Vida.

This was my second time in Costa Verde - this time we splurged on the 727 and spent the night in the plane perched on the cliff - what an unforgettable experience! We loved everything about Costa Verde - each cabin feels like it is the only one with total seclusion. the pools are beautiful and the food is fantastic. Views are to die for!! Make sure you hit the Cantina when the Jungle Boys are playing - nothing beats 80's music sung with spanish accents - SO MUCH FUN! I think there really were more monkeys than people - makes breakfast interesting each day. This was the only place in Costa Rica we stayed that breakfast was not included and it was a little pricey so budget accordingly!! Staff was great all over the property - they even moved our suitcases from one room to the plane for us and they were there for us in the evening when we came back from the beach - NICE!!

The Costa Verde is a really jungly place with all kinds of cool nature and animals running around. The monkeys crash through the trees all around you all the time and they will come around for breakfast. The view from the pool overlooking Manuel Antonio bay is possibly the best in Costa Rica. Rooms are very spacious and you are getting a lot for your money here.

This was easily the worst experience I’ve ever had with hotel staff. We were only staying a couple of nights in Manuel Antonio and asked to see a room that wasn’t very expensive. The hotel staff laughed in our faces, and were so rude we almost walked out. (We probably should have) Eventually they put us in a “cheaper” room which was below the kitchen, loud, and it was clear it was not a room they would ever give to customers normally. It came with a few lizards and the lights only worked half the time. To top it all off they made fun of us while we were standing right there in this weird mix of Spanish and French (which we understood, although they didn’t realize). To be that disrespected by the supposed “fantastic staff” was awful and we left the next day. The hotel is overpriced for lousy rooms and parking is a pain. You can tell they only want to deal with customers that have a lot of money, or at least act like they do. If you are looking for a non- judgmental atmosphere I would NOT recommend this place. We travel a lot and stay in all sorts of different places; to date we have NEVER had an experience like this. There are some wonderful hotels in Manuel Antonio, pick one of them, stay away from this one.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

We hope that you will accept our sincerest apologies. Our management staff is looking into the matter and works hard daily to ensure that all of the staff here adheres to a policy of “the customer comes first.” We believe, and truly hope, that this is a terrible misunderstanding. We wish that it was brought to our attention when it occurred so that we could have taken measure to rectify it immediately and ensure that you completed and enjoyed your stay with us.

We do feel that our prices reflect the value of our accommodations appropriately. We have mid-range prices in comparison to other area hotels. While we are not considered luxury, and we do not strive to be, we do offer a one-of-kind vacation experience. Our extraordinary views, both ocean and jungle, adult-only accommodations, distinct and sustainable architecture and four unique restaurants are just a few of the amenities that so many of our guests find special about us.

In addition, over the years we have worked to create a variety of room styles – from economy and efficiency to our penthouse – in the hopes of never having to turn any traveler away. With these room options, and flexible room rates in low season, we are usually able to accommodate any budget. We take pride in being able to provide a vacation home to nearly all travelers, regardless of budget, in this often expensive and popular destination of Manuel Antonio. We are shocked to hear that any of our staff would cast judgment on any traveler, for any reason. Again, it is our hope that it was a misunderstanding. We should also note that no one on staff speaks French as was noted in your review. But, we will most definitely seek to uncover more details and ensure that it does not happen in the future.

The lizards/geckos that may have visited you in your room are a little more difficult to apologize for as they are a way of life here in the jungle of Costa Rica. We do our best to use environmentally friendly products and solid building practices to keep “visitors” out, but we are not always 100% successful. The good news about geckos is that they likely gobbled up any mosquitoes that may have entered the room when opening and closing the doors☺

We are unclear about why our parking was not suitable as we do have ample parking for each area of the hotel. Sometimes guests are unaware of just how large the premises are and that we have a fair amount of stairs. We are working on a new webpage that more clearly describes the layout of our buildings, parking lots and restaurants and their proximity to each other and the beach. We have used crafty construction and natural materials to nestle ourselves into the hillside of Manuel Antonio and in order to create a jungle retreat that affords the best views for guests while not disturbing the wildlife too much.

Most importantly regardless of where the communication breakdown occurred there is never an excuse for any staff member to be unkind or rude to our guests. We do apologize if anyone here at Costa Verde made you feel unwelcome. We intend to work with our Reception staff to make sure that everyone understands that “how we make people feel” is paramount when servicing guests. We only get one chance to make a first impression and we are saddened to hear that we left you with a poor one. We hope that you will try us out again if you’re visiting the area again one day. Pura Vida.
