“Fabulous Setting, Great Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2007

This is a small intimate place with the owner living on property. They are extremely focused on service, it is obvious that the employees have had this emphasized. The rooms are spotless, and the views are to die for! Sure the driveway coming down to the hotel is a disaster, heck it is the worst road that we traveled in our 10 days in the country. I suppose that the owners of all of the establishments on this road consider this part of the experience. Restaurant is excellent and the included breakfast is cooked to order and is outstanding. They are set up to take care of any and all requests and wants of the client here. Make certain that you take advantage of the daily afternoon event out by the pool, the pack of monkeys arrive like clock work for the fruit that is available at the pool side bar.

My husband and I stayed at La Mansion and cannot say enough good things about this boutique type hotel. Our room was very large with beautiful furnishings and included fresh fruit and a bottle of wine. We had a private yard outside our room with lounge chairs overlooking the ocean and beaches below us. The property is off the main road and situated on a cliff offering beautiful views of Manuel Antonio and its unspoiled beaches. A walk to the beach and main road is a short distance on a dirt road(10 min.) but very pleasant without traffic (can be very, very dark at night). The hotel offered a full-service breakfast (you name it they will make it to order including mimosas) on a lovely outside patio. The pool area is small but offers beautiful views and the many sounds of the jungle. This is a very small property and therefore you are made to feel very special. I would recommend this property to couples only.

We just returned from a fantastic vacation at the
La Mansion Inn in Costa Rica....and we miss it already! Every day brought something new and pleasing.
On our very first ride to the Inn from the airport, our driver was excited to stop and show us the monkeys and sloth in the trees right in front of the hotel! Quite amazing.
The many other views are amazing as well. After being warmly welcomed by the staff, we were shown to our lovely room....which had a wall of sliding doors that framed a perfect picture of the ocean below. The fresh flowers the staff placed all over the room was a great touch.
We soon explored the rest of the hotel, and were really impressed with the friendliness of the entire staff. In no time, they are calling you by your name. The restaurant is absolutely fantastic.....I had fresh fruit and raisin french toast for breakfast each day (they have a bigger menu than just that, but I was hooked) and the tenderloin with bernaise is to die for!
Check out the Cave Bar.....you climb in to what used to be a bat cave! Very cool.
There are alot of things to do if you're tired of rest and relaxation. One day we took a canopy safari zipline trip....just a litle bit scary, but way more fun! You can also horseback ride on the beach, go to the Manuel Antonio Park (loads of wildlife), or shop around down by the beach. I mentioned the beach, right? Gorgeous!
We stayed for 5 nights, and I can say I could've stayed many more. I'm usually ready to come home by then. I guess I just felt so at home there!
Definitely a must see. Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the hotel celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff is very well trained to try and meet any of your needs. I can say they succeeded! From help to booking tours, to making my wife a special chocolate drink... it was a magnificent experience. The rooms were very nice too. We were initially booked in a beautiful room that had a chandelier and his and hers sofas in a sitting area. The view was a bit obstructed by trees, so we moved to a smaller, but nice room with a much better view. My wife's an artist so the view was important. We had breakfast delivered to the room and included. They had just hired a new person from Holland (?) who's name I wish I could remember. She was so energetic and helpful with all of our needs. The owner, who is very active in the community and does numerous, fund raising activities, was an incredible host. He also loves dogs and has 4 that he rescued that live in the hotel with him. You can see them through out the day as the go on their walks or to eat. We also enjoyed the Bat Cave Bar in the hotel. I would definitely stay at this hotel again when I return.

We began our trip to Manuel Antonio stranded due to a mix-up with another hotel booking. We stopped into the Mansion Inn and asked to be accomodated. John Morales, a manager in the hotel informed us that they were completely booked but instead of turning us away called every other comparable hotel in the area to no avail. He told us that they would not turn us away in the night. He requested that we wait one half hour while he vacated the manager´s garden suite for us. Within twenty minutes we were escourted to this beautiful suite with complimentary glasses of wine. He turned our disastrous situation during a holiday week into a perfectly wonderful vacation. Besides the fact that this is a charming place to visit and the hotel is beautiful, you should go this hotel for no other reason than the extraordinary service of this manager and his staff. We will gladly recommend this hotel to all of our friends and definitely return ourselves.

I stayed here at the end of March '07 with my wife. We were visiting C.R. for the first time. We stayed first at Tabacon up in Arenal. Tabacon is fabulous, but that's another review!

We arrived at La Mansion Inn after the long drive from Arenal (not recommended, btw) after sunset. It was quickly getting dark, and we missed the turn off of the main road for La Mansion. A helpful Tico pointed us in the right direction. The road down to La Mansion (and Mariposa and Parador) is something else. Very steep and bumpy in parts.

We enjoyed dinner out on the covered patio while the rain poured down around us. Very romantic! The food is very good and ranges from Casado Tipico to fancy French choices. On the expensive side to be certain. Breakfast is included and is delicious.

The pool area is absolutely fantastic. Swim up bar, hot tub, view of the bay. Around 5 in the evening, the pool gets visited by a small group of Capuchin monkeys. They are lured by bananas set out by the bar staff. Our Frommers guide book was dismissive of places that lure in monkeys this way to appease tourists. I can see their point, but monkeys are a big part of the Manuel Antonio draw. I'm sure if these clever little monkeys were not getting a couple of pieces of banana from La Mansion each evening, they'd find another way to eat.

The rooms are nice. We were in a deluxe room w/ ocean view. Design is a little dated and kind of flowery for my tastes. Fixtures are nice though, good shower and sink area. Mattress was very firm and uncomfortable to me. Beautiful balcony with a breathtaking view. We were not bothered by noise from other rooms or the hallway (a pet peeve of mine!!).

Service at La Mansion is excellent. There is a small, attentive staff that makes an effort to be extremely helfpul and friendly at each turn.

Overall, happy we chose La Mansion. Only 18 rooms and very cozy ... like a B&B. It's removed from the madness on the main road, but very close to the action. I don't think you can do better in the price range. We were torn b/w this and the Parador, which is a bigger hotel. I would give the Parador a try next time, but it's even farther down this rediculous dirt road.

La Mansion is a small boutique hotel nestled in the Quepos cliffs overlooking an incredibly beautiful coastline. My family had the pleasure of staying here for a week in March and will remember the experience for a lifetime. The ambiance is relaxed, old-world and uniquely charming. Our every need was attended to in an unpretentious, friendly and efficient manner. Cornelius, the manager, could not have been more accommodating and the restaurant staff was great ~ the chef even made us pancakes one morning when they weren't listed as a special item with the delicious complimentary breakfast that day. Pablo, one of the shuttle drivers, gave us useful information about the area and had great recommendations for activities. The pool area is simply gorgeous and was a welcome sight after a day of hiking or surfing in the rough waves of Manuel Antonio (ask for Alex at the small surf school right in front of Jack's restaurant - he did wonders with my eleven year old novice) Dex, the bartender, placed pieces of banana along the pool's far edge which a comical capuchin monkey very stealthily seized one by one. We were glad we didn't have a car though - the roads are steep, narrow, and unpaved. It was nice to relax and let someone else who was familiar with the area do the driving. Our hiking guide from Iguana Tours, Andreos, was awesome. There are so many great activities to choose from but we particularly enjoyed the Planet Dolphin catamaran trip (lunch was delicious). Everyone we met in Costa Rica was a friendly ambassador for their amazing country. We are looking forward to visiting again.
