Although the La Mansion Inn was located down a much rougher road than expected, we enjoyed the secluded feeling upon arrival -- and were glad we weren't the taxi driver that had to back down the curved driveway. Although the hotel is not along the main road through Manuel Antonio, we enjoyed being off the beaten path and didn't ever feel far away from anyting or have to wait long for a taxi. We walked along the road in the mornings, but chose to take taxis any other time we went out. Although there are many hotels in the area, we could only see one or two from our hotel....the rest of the view was of the forest, ocean and beaches.
The hotel overall was very nice and had a mini-castle feel to it. There was some exterior maintenance (broken roof tiles, for example) that could use some attention, but I'm guessing maybe this type of maintenance is done during the slower tourist season.
While we were originally booked to stay in deluxe rooms, we were fortunate enough to change to the Penthouse suite (that had 2 adjoining rooms that accommodated us and the couple travelling with us). The room and the large open deck adjoining the room had a beautiful view of the ocean, the forest and beaches. We enjoyed breakfast on the deck one morning and dined in the breakfast area the other mornings.
The rooms were well kept, the bed comfortable and the towel art on the beds was something to look forward to every day. The shower provided plenty of hot water, although the drain was slow (which we mentioned to the staff during our stay and when departing). Overall, the staff was friendly and very helpful when we needed things in our room and asked for recommendations of local restaurants to go to. They provided us with walking directions to the nearest beach....which was a little ways to walk down a path through the forest, but was a well kept beach where you could rent a kayak or snorkeling gear.
The swim-up bar had a great view of the ocean. The bat cave bar was a fun addition to the hotel and a place to stop on our way out to or upon return from area restaurants. We didn't eat at the formal restaurant in the hotel (opting for local restaurants in the area instead), but enjoyed the breakfasts provided. There was free internet access available in the VIP room, which was open to all guests.
We chose this hotel based upon the great reviews received on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed at all with our stay. We would recommend this hotel to others and would stay here again if we are ever in the Manuel Antonio area in the future.
