“Great Staff and Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

The staff at La Mansion Inn were incredible. They went out of their way to make my vacation the best it could be. I had 2 tours get cancelled at the last minuet and they were able to book me on new tours, which turned out to be a blast!

When I arrived, I was escorted to my room and to my surprise, I was upgraded from a standard room to Penthouse #4! I was thrilled, as I've never stayed in a luxury room before. The views were simply incredible. I enjoyed looking out as the sun was setting each day. The bed was super comfortable, and the TV worked well too. Overall, I had a great experience at this hotel thanks to the amazing staff and wonderful accommodations!

Traveled as a couple and we stayed in a room with an amazing view and balcony. The staff were very helpful and nice like all Costa Ricans. The room was spacious. The only gripe downside was that the shower pressure was pretty low. Breakfast was delicious. I ordered the same thing every day, a white egg omelet that came with fruit and whole wheat toast. The service was pretty good. It only got busy our last day but they still did a pretty good job keeping up. There was a lizard out there most mornings which was fun. We actually saw sloths and monkeys on the power lines near the hotel too! We didn't eat any other meals there so can't comment. The pool and swim-up bar had great views. The bat cave bar was definitely fun. My boyfriend got a kick out of it and Jonathon, the bartender, is super friendly and fun to talk with. The walk to the nearby small beach Playa Biesanz is a bit a hike at times but very doable and it's nice, being more secluded. The main beaches were definitely bigger and more crowded but worth it, especially the ones in the park. The shuttle was helpful getting back one day after we had a tour of the park and decided to stay at the beach. We used taxis to get around at night and we always the same driver who actually was the one to point out the animals. Overall it was a great time!

It's surprising to see some commenting about the hotel being old, needing paint, etc. We found that to be part of its charm. The rooms were beautiful and clean and the staff was incredibly friendly, plus we received complementary breakfast each morning, which was delicious.

Great location; you can in fact walk to the beach (about a 20 min walk) via a downhill path minutes away from the hotel, but suggest taking the complementary shuttle service on your way back since the walk is all up hill.

NB: check in times are at 2pm. If you arrive early, you may find yourself waiting a bit...

Amazing view. AC works. Beads great. Staff amazing. Extremely clean. Love the hotel. It is very hot here and bring your checkbook. Eating and drinking in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is more expensive than NYC, Hawaii or London.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms r on the third floor. More stairs but better view. room plenty big. Rooms with jacuzzi...

We appreciate you kind review of La Mansion Inn. We always strive to offer the very best of service when it comes to quality and excellence. While it is true, many places in Manuel Antonio can be more expensive, there are always options and ways to save. We always try to give our guests a varied selection of places to go, as many do arrive on a limited budget. One of the best times and least expensive times to visit Costa Rica is during the "Low Season" which runs from May through November. Our hotel rates are also lower during this time.

This hotel was ok but definitely not the greatest. I don't think it was worth the money. Next time we will probably look for a different hotel. I could tell once it had been the new and modern hotel. They haven't kept up with the times.

The facilities of the La Mansion Inn are constantly being upgraded to reflect the changing tastes of our guests. The main building of the hotel is only 12 years old while the other wings only were added 6 and 4 years ago.. However, what was "in" or modern 12 years ago is no longer in vogue so we basically offer three different styles of rooms/suites, rustic, modern and contemporary all according to the pocketbook of our guests - from a "simple" bedrooms to extravagant suites. We pay close attention to comments such as yours and constantly evaluate our facilities to be sure they reflect the needs of the vast majority of our guests.

Great location, fantastic ambiance! Very spacious room with great view. Staff is responsive & eager to please! Convenient location to the national park. Very little wait for shuttles/taxis to Quepos/Marina/shops/restaurants. Menu is somewhat limited, but what they've got is good......the fruit (especially pineapple) alone is well worth it!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

We stayed at this hotel in a penthouse for 8 nights. Overall the hotel is very nice but its getting dated. Our room was very spacious, we actually had two rooms (which I didnt know, on our reso it said one room) with very flamboyant decor. The service at the pool and at the bar are excellent. The guy working the bat cave at night is awesome! And I am not talking about the underage guy that 'runs' it- he should not be in there at all. We loved the bat cave bar and were in there all the time. Food was ok, pretty decent for the most part. We had all inclusive till 7pm, we didnt eat there much, there are so many other places to eat and we where more interested in drinks at night, not during the day.
The pool and view are amazing! Which you can swim in 24/7. LOVED the hot tub. This hotel is very intimate and boutique and great for a honeymoon. Often times we were the only ones by the pool for days. The live music at night was great as we could sit on our balcony and listen to it while we played cards and sipped on a beer.

Why its not quite 5 star:
Semi- unprofessionalism with the under age guy in the bar. Also the housekeeping- they literally walked in on me twice without knocking! The "turn down" service is them giving you more towels a snickers bar. They didnt even take our dirty plates from the morning!
No 24hr room service- couldnt even get a beer at 11pm on a friday night!!
No Spa
No Gym
No other amenities.

At one point I bet this was an amazing, happening hotel that all the stars stayed at (they are very proud of this), however I think the owner is more interested in his "exclusive" bar next door, that no guest are allow in, than the actual hotel. There are major improvements needed for it to be a 5 star hotel again.

Overall great place to stay if you can get it for around $125 a night.
*I would suggest having a car there, just cause the beach and other restaurants are up a windy road and no safe to walk around at night.

Room Tip: All room have a lovely view of the bay

As owner of La Mansion I appreciate your comments but feel obliged to respond to some of your observations. The “under age guy” at the bar is actually the son of another hotel owner and the family are close personal friends of mine. He (and others) is doing a food and beverage student internship at my hotel before he is leaving for Germany at the end of the month to continue his studies in the hospitality field. He is not a regular employee but is learning the trade under the supervision of other staff. In regards to not being able to get a beer at 11PM at night we offer bar service from 11 AM until 11 PM at night and every room has a full mini bar menu for guests that want to stock their mini bar for 24 hour availability. Depending on how many people are at the bar around that time we stay open until the last person leaves. If there is nobody at that time we close the bar. As a small boutique property we have been rated a 5-Star property with “limited service” opposed to mega 5-Star hotels that offer “extended service” with 24 hour bars and restaurants. For the few people that wish a drink after that hour our night receptionist is usually able to accommodate our late guests. Our main amenities are our flora and fauna, personalized service and superb ocean and jungle views.

We stopped our Gym and Spa service because we found it more advantageous for us and our guests to offer these professional services through an alliance with a nearby Spa and Gym establishment. The Gym and Spa Business is getting so advanced that we found that it was hard to keep up with and decided to put this service in the hands of true professionals instead of us with our small boutique hotel continuously trying to keep up with the latest in this specialized field.

As to the “exclusive bar” next door where no guests of the La Mansion Inn have access you are correct. This “exclusive bar where I am more interested in” is actually part of my home. We are currently working on a new concept where this bar would actually become part of the new Contempo Hotel scheduled to open on May 1, 2013. This small more modern, contemporary exclusive 6 room/suite Contempo Hotel would actually cater to a different niche market clientele.

The issue of our housekeeping staff entering your suite without knocking has been addressed with the staff and is part of the regular training routine to always knock before entering a room for service. Just to be sure we have in-room door latches for the protection of the privacy of our guests since sometimes our guests do not hear the housekeeper’s knock.
