“Heaven in the treetops!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

La mansion Inn exceeded our expectations! The hotel was beautifull, with large rooms and your own private balcony overlooking the magnificent pacific ocean. As soon as you check into this hotel. You are greeted by the most welcoming staff, they give you a tour and are presented with a delicious welcome drink! The staff were extremely helpful and even allowed my husband to set up a private birthday dinner on the 360 degree terrace. From the bartenders in the Bat cave (Jonathon and Bart) and Jesus in the pool bar we were well taken care of and entertained! We can not recommend this hotel highly enough and wish that one day we can return!

After a 5 hour car transfer, we couldn't wait to be on the coast and check in to this highly rated hotel...boy was I about to be in for it. From the outside La Mansion looks great, awesome scenery and location; step inside and it is a totally different story. The hotel staff is great, friendly and helpful, but, the excitement wanes there. The hotel is set in a great location, right in Manuel Antonio park but, is stuck in an identity crisis. The room we stayed in, a deluxe suite, was lack luster, complete with a browning floral arrangement and dingy floors. The decor was both tropical traditional AND 80's modern, complete with chrome and black leather. I am all for kitch and a botique setting but, this did not come anywhere close. The bed was large but, creaked terribly. The hotel doors slam loudly and the halls echo, for an extremely small hotel there is a lot of noise, including running children. I have traveled frequently and this hotel is not terrible, it just comes no where near the claims of luxury that have been made by both the hotel's website and previous reviewers. When I think of luxury I think of places like Little Palm resort, Nayara resort, the Iroquois or the Ritz, this is a mid-range shore crash pad at best. The outside pool area is decent but again shows excessive age and wear. Enjoy the surrounding beauty and local as much as possible, this hotel won't do anything to emphasize your stay.

Thank you very much for your comment and, as a brand new member, welcome to the sometimes dubious world of Trip Advisor. As owner of the La Mansion Inn I appreciate balanced feedback. As former President of the Moscow International Press Club and long-time General Manager and C.E.O. of the National Press Club in Washington D.C. I extensively traveled the world myself and if I have learned anything is that “Luxury” is very much in the eye of the beholder. What is luxurious to one person might very well be “run of the mill” for the next person. The fact is that if you look for true “Luxury” like at the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons or any other of the hotel described in your review you will be disappointed trying to find this in a developing Country like Costa Rica.

Fortunately, most people that visit us take this in to account when visiting Costa Rica and lower their expectations and because of this almost all leave very satisfied. Of course, there should be no kids running around in the hallways (we do not allow children less than 12 years of age) or you having to deal with a squeaky bed. The hint you left us of a black leather chrome couch we have yet to locate as we do not have this kind of furniture. As an owner who never stops investing in his hotel and continuously tries to upgrade his facility I assure you that no matter what style I select people will always have their opinion, very much like the 27 ice cream flavors of Basking Robbins – they are all excellent but not to everyone’s taste.

We just finished another terrific year because of all the positive reviews we received throughout the past 12 months. If we screw up, we fix it and move on until we get our next constructive cristisism. This reacting and immediate response to a particular issue is what makes us stand out from other properties. However, we are not the Ritz Carlton, nor do we pretend to be. We are a small owner-operated Boutique Hotel that captures the essence of Costa Rica and its people for “better of for worse” that goes out of its way to please its guests. People like former “Queen of Mean” Leona Helmsley or Donald Trump better look elsewhere as they more than likely will not be happy in the jungle. I was looking for your reviews of some of these stellar properties but could not find a single one.

La Mansion has an impressive view, wonderful decor, large rooms, and clean. we had a wonderful stay, and the breakfast was GREAT! I still dream about the French toast. The staff were very accommodating, friendly, helpful, and professional. We would certainly recommend to others and stay again next time we travel to CR.

This is an incredible place. It is a small hotel (25 rooms) with large amenities and a level of personal attention I have never experienced before. First, all of the help knows and greets you by name and will help with anything you need. They booked all our tours and activities, made terrific suggestions about restaurants and things to do, and even made flight reservations for us on the local airline, after we decided not to drive all the way back to San Jose to get our flights home. The hotel is a riot - they have a "Bat Bar" complete with a fog machine for cocktails, a lovely pool with an occasional visiting monkey, and excellent breakfasts included with your room (you can order anything you want off the menu at no additional charge). Our rooms were huge, lush and luxurious, all with private balconies. Since we had a week in total, we decided to spend the whole week at La Mansion and that was a great decision. There is more than enough to see and do there, and I doubt you would ever find a nicer place to stay.

Spent three nights there...

The amazing -
Having a large balcony all by yourself where it looks like they built the ocean for your view is pretty cool! We had more privacy than the Presidential suite. Room 17 hands down!!! The capuchin monkeys will visit your balcony daily....

The customer service was incredible, nothing more to say!

The pretty darn good -
The Bat Cave was pretty cool. It is a small and dark adventure.

The good -
The food was decent. Breakfast was included. We ate dinner one night and it was good food. The seafood is their real sell including a "catch of the day" fish option.

There are 4 shuttle times at 12,1, 3, and 5 for the beach. They should add morning times.

Great boutique resort worth the money. The views are spectacular...wake up early for the capuchin monkeys.....

Room Tip: Actually not sure if there was a spa....but I accidentally added 5 stars for it. Disregard because I...

We appreciate your kind review after staying with us. It is great to know that our guests manage to take full advantage of the facilities and services we offer so their vacation would be all it can be. The shuttle service has always been a high priority for us. We maintain this service for our guests and that it runs like clockwork from morning until evening. It seems that you missed our morning shuttle service to the beach at 9am. This allows our guests to go down immediately after breakfast and enjoy the morning at the beach. Sometimes with a lot going on in the morning we understand it is possible to miss the 9am service. We look forward to your return to Costa Rica, you are ALWAYS welcome here at La Mansion Inn.

Highly recommend this small and elegant hotel. Rooms are spacious with private balconies and amazing views of the pacific. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi & pool which afforded even more amazing views. A nightcap at the very unique bat-cave-bar is a must! The hotel's food is well prepared and the casual but graceful atmosphere makes dining a pleasure. What makes this hotel so outstanding is its very dedicated, professional and kind staff that truly cares for its guests.

My husband and I stayed at La Mansion Inn during a portion of our honeymoon in Costa Rica. The hotel was perfect! All of the staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We really enjoyed the pool/pool bar, cave bar, and the food was excellent! The view from our balcony was beautiful, the room was spacious--and we were even able to enjoy a couples massage from the comfort of our own room. Our package included breakfast, lunch and drinks--I would highly recommend that package! The staff knew us by name and we knew them by name in return (Juan Carlos, Adrianne, Jonathan, Bart, Carlos, Jesus, Michael...among others...). I was very impressed by this hotel and we will most certainly be back!
