Stayed here for 5 nights with my husband to celebrate his birthday. We were both very happy with the choice to stay here. We paid the extra money (got a deal on jetsetter) for the upgrade to the suite and it was well worth it. The room was chic and extremely modern; it reminded me of nice hotels that we have stayed at in LA. We had a beautiful ocean view from our balcony and a jacuzzi on the balcony to top it off. The hotel overall has all of the amenities of a large resort, but the feel is way more personalized. There are 3 pools, 2 are very attractive infinity pools with ocean views, the 3rd could use some updating but is not a bad choice when the others are more crowded. I had a sprained ankle while there and used the golf cart service often that was provided to get around the grounds. This helped a lot, and was very reliable and fast. The hotel is basically located in the rainforest. We took some walks on the trails around the grounds on our own and saw monkeys, sloths and lots of different amphibians. This is not uncommon, as we would sometimes see monkeys on our way to breakfast. This was a great benefit for my husband who loves to see and photograph the animals.
The activity center is well managed. I think the person who helped us was named Roberto- he was great. He actually was the one who pointed out some sloths to us. We were very grateful! There are tons of options for activities. We did the sunset boat cruise, the 10 in 1 zipline tour and the national park tour. The 10 in 1 was great. For the boat cruise, we ended up being on the boat with a large group of early 20s, and they turned it into a party boat; fine if thats what you are looking for but wasnt exactly what we had in mind so it was a little disappointing. Also, there was not much to see while snorkling off the boat. The sunset was amazing nonetheless. The national park tour was good, the guide from hotel parador made a big difference. After the tour in the national park we spent the afternoon at the beach in the park, and it was beautiful, and not busy at all.
We also used the spa services at the hotel which were good. Overall, the service at the hotel was very good and personal. We were always greeted by name wherever we went on the grounds. All of the staff spoke English well, which made everything easy.
There is a cove beach very close to the hotel. You can walk there, but due to my ankle, we opted for the golf cart service. It takes 5 min to get there. It is small, but very pretty and a good option. Not crowded, as its mostly hotel guests.
To get to the hotel we used the service they provide from the airport. This was definitely pricey, (i think it was $300 roundtrip). We used this instead of renting a car just for the ease of use, and because we didnt feel like driving for 3 hours after being on a plane for 6. On the way there the driver did not speak much english but was very nice and stopped along the way for us to pick up things at the store, and he also took some photos for us at scenic lookouts. He also stopped so we could take pictures at a river that was full of crocodiles- very cool. We had a great driver on the way back who spotted several animals, including the almost extinct Macauw, and also stopped so we could take pictures.
The only thing that went slightly wrong on our trip was that on the reservation, I was told they would decorate our room as a surprise for my husband's birthday. They forgot to do this early on, but I called them to remind them and when we got back from dinner there were birthday balloons in the room.
The restaurant at the hotel was good but there are better options. We went to Kapi Kapi for my husband's birthday and that was very good. The breakfast that's included with your stay is a nice touch. Lots of options and includes hot and cold foods.
I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you are happy, it is a very pretty place, the room was great, and they have everything you need and want.
Room Tip: Stay in the suites which are excellent. I'm not sure if the standard rooms are as nice because t...
