It’s a wonderful place. If you love the rain forest, beach view, wildlife and you are pro-eco-friendly, with luxury only feet away from the middle of wilderness, then this hotel is for you.
We had a fantastic time there. We had a Vista Suite (4th floor), which I recommend because the view from the balcony is absolutely breathtaking. We wanted the ‘wow factor’ and we were not disappointed. The room was impeccably clean. Housekeeping was there every day with a dedicated staff and supervisors. They even had night bed turn-down service complete with chocolates on the bed.
The grounds were also impeccably kept and full of tropical flora and fauna. Everything looks so healthy, perhaps because the resort employs a composting system that fertilizes the entire grounds.
The place is run like a ship; everything in its place and attention to detail is obvious and very much appreciated.
The staff was extremely nice and polite; among the most welcoming people we have ever met.
The restaurants were solid and consistent, the food was very fresh and well prepared. The breakfast was great; fruits, pancake, croissant, eggs, omelets and waffles to order…Lunch and diner were good too. The only thing is that they don’t change their menu. After a couple days we were kinda tired of seeing the same menu. They could have had some specials of the day to change it up a bit. It’s not necessarily a big issue since you can take the shuttle and go to either Manual Antonio or the main beach (the Rotunda) where there are lots of different small and local restaurants. Though hygiene may be an issue with some of them. To go to diner outside the hotel you’ll need to take a taxi ($10 round trip). We went to the restaurant Luna in Hotel Gaia one night, it was great.
The Monkey trail in the resort is wonderful. It’s not really long but it gives you a good sense of what the rain forest is about. Plus, you will be able to see white-faced Capuchin monkeys if you are lucky.
We took the Manuel Antonio Natural Park guided tour, which was great. We were able to see monkeys, frogs, iguanas, a whole family of mapaches (Central American Versions of Raccoons), sloths, Caiman Crocodiles, giant non-venemous spiders, amazing butterflies…The tour ends at a wonderful beach.
We also took the kayak tour among the mangroves, which was very interesting and allowed us to see a troop of Capuchins including mothers with babies in tow lunging and swinging from one tree on one side of the water to a branch on the other (dangerous for them).
The only negative I can find is that the shuttle schedule doesn’t run that often, but maybe it’s because we were still in the ‘green season’ and the hotel was not full. Best thing we can say is that we would return! Thank you Parador!
