“Great hotel for a family with children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The hotel room is so enormous. It feels like your living is a huge apartment. We were on the 5th floor the view was nice looking out over the ocean and pool area. The hotel staff was very nice and pleasant. We had a great time here and enjoyed our stay overall. However, there were a few things that we raised our brow too, we weren't told that breakfast was free for guest until after being there a day by other guest at the pool side. They do not change your towels unless you ask. The pool is not really kid friendly they do not have life vest or toys for the children to play with. The food was mediocre. We had a really great time in Manual Antonio Zip lining and watching the sloths and monkeys. Pura Vida!

Our family of five stayed at the Los Altos Beach Resort & Spa. Beautiful unit. Three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Clean and well maintained. Unit had a washer and dryer, but apparently it was removed.. I would have loved to have done a load of laundry instead of having to send it out. Breakfast was included in the rental, which seems to be the norm for booking Costa Rican hotels. We had booked the hotel through Rocketmiles and the booking confirmation stated that a King bed, a queen bed and two twin beds were to be included in our booking. Upon our arrival, we are told that we would have to pay and extra US$125/nt for the additional bedrooms. The confirmation does not mention the word "OR" and we pointed this out. The manager on duty reviews this, and says that she will compromise and charge us US$75/nt instead of the initial amount of $125.. We settle for the lower rate, but feel that it is scam. Only four towels are provided. We had to ask for towels EVERY day, as there are five of us. Breakfast was mediocre at best. We are used to being in foreign countries and understand that our "American" idea of service may not be in tune with the current vacationing country. However, I feel that we were not only given poor service during breakfast, but it felt like we were being pointedly ignored. Unless we flagged someone down, a second cup of coffee was not forth coming. I understand that buffet is self-serve, but the kids wanted a smoothie and again, it felt like we needed to beg for this.. The pool is a beautiful infinity pool – in DAYLIGHT hours. Pool area is open until 10 pm. Sunset occurs at approximately 6 pm.. this leaves an additional 4 hours of night swimming. The kids and husband head to the pool.. Don’t bother to go.. There are no lights for the steps, there are no lights in the pool or for that matter, the pool area. They stayed for 10 minutes and left.. Would think twice about going back..

The rooms are enormous and feel more like living in a huge house than being in a hotel. We stayed on floor 5 and the view was amazing. I don't think that the view is any better on the 6th or 7th floor, but anything below floor 4 probably has more of a view of the parking lot than the tops of the jungle trees and ocean. Tip: there are 2 sides of the hotel - one on the left (if facing the ocean) and one on the right. The one on the right has a slightly better view between the trees to the ocean, but the one on the left is closer to the trees that line the edge of the hotel property and have monkeys and exotic birds, so ask for the left side of the hotel (from the perspective of facing the ocean). The location of the hotel is fantastic and you can walk to 10 different restuarants, the market, the ATM, etc...Warning: their private beach is horrible. Rocks everywhere and if you stand in the water the rocks hit your ankles on the way in and on the way back out.

Room Tip: Tip: there are 2 sides of the hotel - one on the left (if facing the ocean) and one on the right. T...

If you are looking for accommodation that offers the comforts of home blended into a contemporary atmosphere, look no further. At Los Altos, you will get a good nights sleep in a luxurious setting that makes you forget about all the hassles of traveling. This place is worth every penny you spend! The quality and value - not just from the hotel, but the service provided- is simply amazing. Each condo is 3 bedrooms and can sleep 6 people comfortably. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can save money cooking if you wish. But if you are beat from a day wandering the national park, the restaurant on site is delicious. I am the pickiest eater in the world and not only did they have options for my diet, but the food was just to die for. Just go try for yourself!

Room accommodations: 3 rooms (1 king, 1 queen, 2 doubles) can sleep 6 comfortably. Missing a washer/dryer. Bathrooms nice (overhead shower a nice touch) but hotel was stingy with towels (4 towels for 4 people). Our room on 7th floor which afforded great view. Floors ~5 and lower will have mostly tree view with only glimpse of ocean. Room was closest to main road but sound from road not heard unless outside on one of the balconies. Balconies could have been better furnished. 2 chairs and small table in between on main balcony. No furnishings on other two. Would have been nice so wet clothes could have been put out to dry. WFI worked fine in main kitchen/living area but was spotty in bedrooms.

Property: On a semi-steep hill so be ready to hike back and forth to pool / restaurant. Workout room ok but not great and always had a musty smell. Private beach delivers on privacy. Is quite rocky however so be careful wading into ocean. truck will take you back and forth from hotel to private beach according to schedule you provide - however a phone down at beach would have been nice in case you wanted earlier/later pickup.

Staff: Costa Rican's generally very friendly. No exception at Los Altos though they performed poorly when we arrived around dinner and didn't have room ready for another 2.5 hours. They said they didn't get reservation from Expedia (they said this has happened multiple times). Understandable if true. However they didn't offer any remedy to situation other than sorry until after we asked. I felt they should have proactively offered us a drink and appetizers at the least considering length of inconvenience.

Area activities: Public beach 10 minutes down the road. Would recommend going there if you don't mind a crowd. Activities include jet skiing which was great because ocean is not overly choppy (like Cabo as an example), Parasailing (off the beach, not a winch on back of boat), surfboards for $10/hour or $40/hour if you want person in water helping and teaching surfing. Manual Antonio National park entrance right near beach ($10/person if no guide used). Only did short tour due to lack of time but did make it to first beach area in park. Saw many white face monkeys very close up as well as a raccoon like creature. Beach was in protected cove so if you prefer gentler waves with no possible rip tide, this is great option in lieu of main beach. Beach was however crowded especially considering we were traveling off season. Would highly recommend ATVs as this was a highlight during vacation. Note that while ATVs can be offered for 1 or 2 riders, 2 riders on ATV would have been really tight as ATV built for 1.

My wife, son, and I stayed at this resort while visiting the Manuel Antonio area. The units are so large (2500 square feet) that it almost knocks you over as you step off the elevator directly into you unit. They are 3 bedroom (king, queen and two twin beds), 2 ½ bath units with a washer and dryer (which is very nice to freshen up swimsuits after a day on the beach) and a full kitchen which can also be taken as one or two bedroom units. There are televisions in the master bedroom and in the living room and great wifi. If you are sharing the unit was someone with very different sleep habits the units can be a little noisy as the floors are not carpeted and the sound the microwave door and drawers being closed and the television can be heard in the bedrooms. There are wonderful views to the west from the primary balcony (you have 3 balconies) which can give you some beautiful sunsets. The hotel has a lovely pool (with bar attached), restaurant and private beach. The private beach is about a 5 minute drive (30 minute walk). The hotel will take you there and pick you up. We found the size of the beach, roughness of the waves and currents that seemed to pull you out at high tide less inviting so we only used it once and then went to the public beach in Manuel Antonio. The location of the pool and restaurant are some distance from the building where the units are located so for individuals who are mobility challenged this might not be a good choice.
Breakfast was included in the room rate and you are offered a wide variety of choices of fresh fruit and hot items on the buffet and there is someone available to cook your eggs or omelet any way you want them. We had lunch and dinner in the restaurant and they were both excellent. There are a number of restaurants within close walking distance as well as a couple of small grocery stores where you can pick up soft drinks, beer or wine along with other items.
The front desk staff, restaurant staff, housekeeping personnel, and grounds crew were outstanding and all very welcoming and helpful.
We went into Manuel Antonio for the public beach twice. It is gently sloping beach with some surf which makes renting a boogie board or taking surfing lessons sound appealing. You will need to rent umbrellas and chairs as there is not much shade.
It is about a $5 taxi ride ($0.60 per person bus ride) into Manuel Antonio’s town center where the public beach is as well as a number of restaurants and a larger grocery store.

We spend one night at the fifth floor and it was awesome! It definitely meets the standards for a 5 stars hotel! A lot of space to share with everybody in the room! Very well equipped/furniture! The gym was great! Well equipped as well! Great view from the balcony! Great pool with amazing setup! I have to admit it is really pricy but totally worth it!
