“Comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

My friend and I recently spent 3 nights at the San Bada hotel and couldn't have been more pleased. We had made a reservation at the Hotel as part of a group from travel agency. However when we arrived in San Bada we found that the location of hotel in the Manuel Antonio Natl Park was excellent. Situated on the border. Most of the mornings we heard the monkeys and birds. Everything at the Hotel was within easy reach.
Staff were also extremely friendly and cheerful too. A special thanks to the lovely woman who made our omelet each day. Breakfast, included in the room price, was good and specially the coffee.
The shortcut to the beach is probably due for an update, but was convenient and perfectly adequate to walk to the public beach.
Highly recommend this fabulous place when you get a chance to travel to Manuel Antonio.

Room Tip: ask for the private tour to the waterfalls

Best part of this stay was that its next to the national park and 3 minutes from beach
Staff very courteous we had to go early on both mornings the packed breakfast for us on both days
Take higher floors to stay as in the morning u can see monkeys and birds from the gallery
Only dissaponting part was that the wifi is not that strong I had to keep my main door open to get good

Dear DocPravin

Thank you for your review and for staying at our beautiful Resort!

We do appreciate that you emphasize the fact of our proximity to the National Park, beach and the fauna that surrounds the hotel. We are door to door to the national park and only 150mts or 2 minutes walking to the main beach. We do our best to make sure our guests have a complete experience, from the accommodations to the food, of course our great and helpful staff.

Pura Vida!

We were fascinated by our first trip one year ago to Costa Rica and we decided to return for a second time… After an extensive comparison my family and I chose this place based on reviews from Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Hotel San Bada is a lovely hotel, directly on the edge of Manuel Antonio Park, wonderful location to rest, very friendly staff, especially with children. Definitely a family hotel without being overcrowded. This hotel is also 3 minutes walk from the public beach, and some very good restaurants, with good food and good facilities. The food at the Hotel is also extremely good.

The rooms at the Hotel are lovely, each room has its own individual private balcony contained within a walled perimeter, so privacy is assured. The rooms themselves are well appointed and the bathrooms are excellent, with a big sunken bath, as well as a nice shower.

The staff are so friendly, and we were impressed by the extraordinary attention received from them during our stay, the waiting staff so polite and accommodating and the front desk staff always helpful to arrange your itinerary, activities, etc.

Highly recommended, and the Costarican people  working there make this a very special place indeed. We feel at home and among friends during our stays at the hotel. We have traveled to many places and stayed in many hotels, however this is the only hotel that motives us to drawn us back!

I'm pretty sure that hotel San Bada is the best hotel in Manual Antonio. The entrance to the park is right next to the entrance to the hotel and there is a path that goes directly to the beach for easy access. Monkeys even swung in to visit us at the pool! The water slide into the pool is so fast that it is even fun for adults. The rooms are huge and ours backed up to the jungle so you can hear all the animals, yet still see the ocean in the distance and enjoy the jungle sounds from the balcony. The hotel restaurant was good (had great ceviche), but you have to plan to sit at the meal for a great deal of time. Long meals are very common as Manual Antonio has a very relaxed atmosphere. Staff were all very nice. The pool bartender was great on my birthday! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Manual Antonio! I did not see any other hotel that could even compete with the location and quality!

Pros:
- Location right across Manuel Antonio National Park entrance.
- Nice view from the terrace.
- Rooms are OK! The size is big enough!
- Bathroom and shower is good!
- Beds could be better but are comfortable enough.
- Filtered water for free.
- Food at the restaurant was good.
- In general staff was polite and friendly.

Cons:
- Everybody here is talking about the pool... Yes! The pools need cleaning! There was even a FROG in the pool (no problems with the frog - we are very close to the National Park).
- Breakfast was BAD! They need to improve it. There's a little variety of bread, no cheese or ham. They could add more thing to please every taste.
- They need to change the water filter bottle more often. Sometimes they just forgot about it and the water ran empty.
- I know this is not a hotel's fault, but guests should be aware that there are mosquitos near the National Park. Bring an insect repellent!
- Service was affected by the fact that the hotel was being entirely closed/reserved by a big group of Jewish the day we left. On that day, the hotel would be fully occupied only for their families. Because of that, all of the staff were concerned to please their stay, not ours. There were workers all over the hotel making noise until 8PM! We had to ask the front desk every day so that they could stop making loud noises to restore and refurbish rooms. The restaurant had been closed for regular service. We couldn't have dinner at the hotel (instead they were offering a barbecue on the terrace and the staff didn't even know how it worked - price etc.). We couldn't also have breakfast at the restaurant. Instead we had breakfast in the convention room with plastic dishes.

Dear Leonardo,

We appreciate your time for writing your personal opinion in regards to your stay. Thank you very much for pointing out the advantages of staying at our Hotel such as our incredible location right next to the National Park, our amazing terrace with ocean and sunset view, the rooms size which depending in the category it can be from two full size beds or one king size bed, our bed mattresses, and how comfortable you found our bed mattresses in your room.

The food at our Restaurant is one of a kind; we got an extensive and a variety of dishes willing to satisfy all our guests requests from a great seafood platter with freshly caught lobster, juicy beef tenderloin, many vegetarian options, irresistible pastas to the biggest hamburger in town, Congo Burger. We are glad that you rated great our Restaurant lunch and dinning services.

We agree on your review when describing our staff as polite and friendly, we are glad that our staff made your stay memorable. We strive and it is in the mind of each of us to provide the best service possible.

Besides the free purified mineral water we provide, you forgot to mention that we do also provide free WiFi access, complimentary safety box in each room, beach towels and free secured parking, which enables each of our guest to experience all the attractions of Manuel Antonio within a walking distance and without the need of driving.

For two consecutive years we were chosen to carry out the Passover at our Hotel, for that reason there is a transition of one day before it starts, we sent an email notifying all our guests staying the night before to let them know about it. We want to apologize if your agency did not forward you this information; we plan a smooth transition, without affecting the Hotel services. We do feel sorry that you felt the way as you described, but we want to clarify that all our guests are very important, we do feel disappointed that you did not let us know about your discomfort during your stay, as we would kindly explain you that our guests’ satisfaction comes first.

In regards to the maintenance issues described during your stay in March, please consider that being the only Hotel right next to the National Park is a bonus experience, and besides the frog and mosquitoes stated in your review sometimes we are frequented by monkeys, toucans, birds, sloths coming inside the property, the frog that jumped to the pool that day was a circumstantial event which does not mean the pool is dirty, and besides our pool attendant immediately took care o,. Manuel Antonio is an area with many wildlife, that is the charm of visiting an area blessed by abundant nature. However, our maintenance and pool attendant had been working hard in order to make all our guests stay more remarkable and memorable here, at the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica.

To all our TripAdvisor readers, we do take seriously all the feedbacks, and if there is anything we can do to improve your vacation please we appreciate your words during your stay so we can correct anything necessary to make your experience enjoyable and outstanding!

Again we do feel sorry and apologize that you could not experience the remarkable experience that we strive at San Bada for all our guests, and we do hope you can give us a second chance to host you in Paradise!

Please feel free to let us know when you are planning to return so we may see to your reservation personally and ensure that in your next stay will be a remarkable experience.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Warm Regards,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada

Enjoyed a three day stay at this newly opened hotel! in Manuel Antonio in December.

Have been to Costa Rica before but wanted a short escape and nothing beats the beaches of Manuel Antonio.

Read the reviews on line ..chose this hotel....they were right ...this is the best.

This is t he place to stay now in Manuel Antonio. It is new and took 10 years to build according to the fromt desk. Lots of delay because it is right at the park and lots of special permits.

Unbelievable location.

You are literally right at the entrance to the Park. We slept and woke up to howler monkeys in the morning. They were in the park which bordered a side of our hotel It was fantastic.

Because of location, we got in the Park before the crowds. Lines get very long really quick up to an hour but since we were up early we got tickets and all set to go.

We were just a one minute walk to the public beaches too. The public beach is not as well publicized like the Park but I loved it...felt like Waikiki in Central America. They have a t tunnel that you walk through and then in one minute you are right there at the public beach.

I had stayed at other hotels in the area before on previous trips to costa rica and Manuel Antonio They were nice but you spend so much time driving your rental car and looking for parking that it takes 30 minutes each way jot ust to travel a mile. We felt we got more time to enjoy the beach here and less stressed about car safety.

Also if you are older, or have trouble walking, good news, the whole hotel was flat and level. Not built on a hill like every other hotel in the area. There was an elevator and planty of handrails. Very easy walking at any time of day. Well lighted. Felt very safe too as the entrance is gated with guards.

The hotel is just perfect with two pools, one ground floor with a slide and for kids and one on top floor for adults with ocean views.

Thie top floor bar is the best view of the park and beaches I have ever seen and we have stayed or dined at ALL the other hotels in Manuel Antonio. This view cannot be beat.

Restaurant buffet breakfast was very complete with a large array of fresh fruit and cooked to order eggs.

This is the best choice now in Manuel Antonio.

I was surprised to see this hotel was less expensive than a lot of other hotels which are MILES away from the Park and the same 5 star category.. I guess they are just starting.

I have a feeling that this will get a lot more expensive in the future as word spreads about this new hotel.

The beds and bathrooms here were good too. Found athtubs a little tricky to get in and out. Would have preferred showers.

Hotel was quiet and away from parties in other parts of the Manuel Antonio. Parties and music are sometimes loud in this area.. Only sounds we hear...the monkeys. :)

Location made this ahands down winner.

Location. Quality. Service.

We hope to come back next year.

It was simply divine and what we hoped and dreamed of!

Room Tip: Make sure you get to the bar on top floor for sunset...unbelievable views!

We stayed here in a little while ago and it was a pleasant stay. I have to say that I was a little let down for what we paid, but overall it was very nice. They have a large pool and another one up top for adults only -- very nice. The location is also perfect, although, you do have to walk through a sketchy path to get to the water. However, the walk to the water is less than 10 minutes. The food was pretty good, nothing special.

We were very happy with our room. It was very big and clean. I would recommend this place.
