“Nice hotel. Good rooms. Needs improvements!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Pros:
- Location right across Manuel Antonio National Park entrance.
- Nice view from the terrace.
- Rooms are OK! The size is big enough!
- Bathroom and shower is good!
- Beds could be better but are comfortable enough.
- Filtered water for free.
- Food at the restaurant was good.
- In general staff was polite and friendly.

Cons:
- Everybody here is talking about the pool... Yes! The pools need cleaning! There was even a FROG in the pool (no problems with the frog - we are very close to the National Park).
- Breakfast was BAD! They need to improve it. There's a little variety of bread, no cheese or ham. They could add more thing to please every taste.
- They need to change the water filter bottle more often. Sometimes they just forgot about it and the water ran empty.
- I know this is not a hotel's fault, but guests should be aware that there are mosquitos near the National Park. Bring an insect repellent!
- Service was affected by the fact that the hotel was being entirely closed/reserved by a big group of Jewish the day we left. On that day, the hotel would be fully occupied only for their families. Because of that, all of the staff were concerned to please their stay, not ours. There were workers all over the hotel making noise until 8PM! We had to ask the front desk every day so that they could stop making loud noises to restore and refurbish rooms. The restaurant had been closed for regular service. We couldn't have dinner at the hotel (instead they were offering a barbecue on the terrace and the staff didn't even know how it worked - price etc.). We couldn't also have breakfast at the restaurant. Instead we had breakfast in the convention room with plastic dishes.

Dear Leonardo,

We appreciate your time for writing your personal opinion in regards to your stay. Thank you very much for pointing out the advantages of staying at our Hotel such as our incredible location right next to the National Park, our amazing terrace with ocean and sunset view, the rooms size which depending in the category it can be from two full size beds or one king size bed, our bed mattresses, and how comfortable you found our bed mattresses in your room.

The food at our Restaurant is one of a kind; we got an extensive and a variety of dishes willing to satisfy all our guests requests from a great seafood platter with freshly caught lobster, juicy beef tenderloin, many vegetarian options, irresistible pastas to the biggest hamburger in town, Congo Burger. We are glad that you rated great our Restaurant lunch and dinning services.

We agree on your review when describing our staff as polite and friendly, we are glad that our staff made your stay memorable. We strive and it is in the mind of each of us to provide the best service possible.

Besides the free purified mineral water we provide, you forgot to mention that we do also provide free WiFi access, complimentary safety box in each room, beach towels and free secured parking, which enables each of our guest to experience all the attractions of Manuel Antonio within a walking distance and without the need of driving.

For two consecutive years we were chosen to carry out the Passover at our Hotel, for that reason there is a transition of one day before it starts, we sent an email notifying all our guests staying the night before to let them know about it. We want to apologize if your agency did not forward you this information; we plan a smooth transition, without affecting the Hotel services. We do feel sorry that you felt the way as you described, but we want to clarify that all our guests are very important, we do feel disappointed that you did not let us know about your discomfort during your stay, as we would kindly explain you that our guests’ satisfaction comes first.

In regards to the maintenance issues described during your stay in March, please consider that being the only Hotel right next to the National Park is a bonus experience, and besides the frog and mosquitoes stated in your review sometimes we are frequented by monkeys, toucans, birds, sloths coming inside the property, the frog that jumped to the pool that day was a circumstantial event which does not mean the pool is dirty, and besides our pool attendant immediately took care o,. Manuel Antonio is an area with many wildlife, that is the charm of visiting an area blessed by abundant nature. However, our maintenance and pool attendant had been working hard in order to make all our guests stay more remarkable and memorable here, at the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica.

To all our TripAdvisor readers, we do take seriously all the feedbacks, and if there is anything we can do to improve your vacation please we appreciate your words during your stay so we can correct anything necessary to make your experience enjoyable and outstanding!

Again we do feel sorry and apologize that you could not experience the remarkable experience that we strive at San Bada for all our guests, and we do hope you can give us a second chance to host you in Paradise!

Please feel free to let us know when you are planning to return so we may see to your reservation personally and ensure that in your next stay will be a remarkable experience.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Warm Regards,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada

Enjoyed a three day stay at this newly opened hotel! in Manuel Antonio in December.

Have been to Costa Rica before but wanted a short escape and nothing beats the beaches of Manuel Antonio.

Read the reviews on line ..chose this hotel....they were right ...this is the best.

This is t he place to stay now in Manuel Antonio. It is new and took 10 years to build according to the fromt desk. Lots of delay because it is right at the park and lots of special permits.

Unbelievable location.

You are literally right at the entrance to the Park. We slept and woke up to howler monkeys in the morning. They were in the park which bordered a side of our hotel It was fantastic.

Because of location, we got in the Park before the crowds. Lines get very long really quick up to an hour but since we were up early we got tickets and all set to go.

We were just a one minute walk to the public beaches too. The public beach is not as well publicized like the Park but I loved it...felt like Waikiki in Central America. They have a t tunnel that you walk through and then in one minute you are right there at the public beach.

I had stayed at other hotels in the area before on previous trips to costa rica and Manuel Antonio They were nice but you spend so much time driving your rental car and looking for parking that it takes 30 minutes each way jot ust to travel a mile. We felt we got more time to enjoy the beach here and less stressed about car safety.

Also if you are older, or have trouble walking, good news, the whole hotel was flat and level. Not built on a hill like every other hotel in the area. There was an elevator and planty of handrails. Very easy walking at any time of day. Well lighted. Felt very safe too as the entrance is gated with guards.

The hotel is just perfect with two pools, one ground floor with a slide and for kids and one on top floor for adults with ocean views.

Thie top floor bar is the best view of the park and beaches I have ever seen and we have stayed or dined at ALL the other hotels in Manuel Antonio. This view cannot be beat.

Restaurant buffet breakfast was very complete with a large array of fresh fruit and cooked to order eggs.

This is the best choice now in Manuel Antonio.

I was surprised to see this hotel was less expensive than a lot of other hotels which are MILES away from the Park and the same 5 star category.. I guess they are just starting.

I have a feeling that this will get a lot more expensive in the future as word spreads about this new hotel.

The beds and bathrooms here were good too. Found athtubs a little tricky to get in and out. Would have preferred showers.

Hotel was quiet and away from parties in other parts of the Manuel Antonio. Parties and music are sometimes loud in this area.. Only sounds we hear...the monkeys. :)

Location made this ahands down winner.

Location. Quality. Service.

We hope to come back next year.

It was simply divine and what we hoped and dreamed of!

Room Tip: Make sure you get to the bar on top floor for sunset...unbelievable views!

We stayed here in a little while ago and it was a pleasant stay. I have to say that I was a little let down for what we paid, but overall it was very nice. They have a large pool and another one up top for adults only -- very nice. The location is also perfect, although, you do have to walk through a sketchy path to get to the water. However, the walk to the water is less than 10 minutes. The food was pretty good, nothing special.

We were very happy with our room. It was very big and clean. I would recommend this place.

We stayed at the Hotel San Bada for 3 nights in February. We were upgraded to a suite since a large group of junior high students were staying there. The room was absolutely beautiful. There was a huge king bed with decks surrounding the room and a hot tub. The staff were amazingly friendly. Location was great, right next to Manuel Antonio Park. The beach was a short walk away. And a beautiful beach it was. Nice for body surfing, not too rough and not boring. Teenagers enjoyed it. My only complaint for this hotel would be the restaurant. The food was very greasy and tasteless. Without the salt there would have been no taste at all, except grease. There were plenty of other restaurants in the area to go to. I needed laundry for travel day and the maids were checking all of the children out so they did not get to our room until late afternoon. So I was really concerned to have clean clothes for travel. I spoke the the maid and then called the front desk to talk to her and our clothes arrived clean by 8pm. And they did not charge for the fast service.

Room Tip: We had a corner suite and it was beautiful!!

We just returned from Costa Rica and San Bada was important part of our vacations. Great hotel, great location and great staff. The rooms are good, with high ceiling and private balconies, and the building different from the rest of the hotels nearby.

The Hotel is ver well located, in a good and safe area where you can walk and you find a bit of everything around. You can spend four days at the Hotel and dont feel any need to go home.

The all staff of the hotel is very helpful, nice restaurant and great sunset bar.

Not sure about the bad review. Traveled world wide 3 Star to 4 Diamond and this is a great hotel. Old yes, but location, location, location. The restaurant served good food, service was great. Staff all around was great. Pool area was fine, but only used to cool down, rest of the time was at the beach. National Park right outside the gate. Get your entrance ticket early to avoid some line up time. Also apparently there is an awesome hike just inside the gate to a pool and waterfall that we missed.
The bathtubs had a wooden "thing" built up around it which made it difficult to step in/out of tub/shower. For this alone I wouldnt recommend this hotel to unstable or non agile folks.
The bar and sunset from the 6th adult only floor which has its own pool was great.

Room Tip: There is no such thing as ocean view as the trees have all grown so high you really cant see it, but...

Dear Guest!

Thank you for your time and for sharing your experience with others at this forum.

We appreciate a lot your review and for pointing out some improvements we can realize. As you said the tubs were and issue for senior guests, for that reason and supported by our valuable guests' feedbacks we just ended remodeling our bathrooms. We took out the tubs and now it is just an elegant and easy to get in and out rainy shower. We left some bathrooms with the tub in case any of our guests' request it at the reservation time. With this we want to recall our commitment to provide comfortable accommodations and guest satisfaction as an important goal in our daily operations.

We are happy to know that you found very convenient the service we provide at the frontdesk of selling the national park tickets, this is a service we gladly do at the same official price.

Oh! we appreciate your comment for letting others know about our 6th floor bar, an exclusive environment for adults, with ocean view and pool. For our little younger friends we have the biggest pool in the area with waterslides and cascades at the ground level.

Thanks again a lot for staying at our Hotel and we hope to meet you again in the near future!

Sincerely,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada

After zip lining, hiking and horseback riding in the beautiful rainforests of Costa Rica, we searched for a massage in Quepos. We stumbled upon Hotel San Bad a when looking for parking for Manuel Antonio state park, and what a pleasant surprise. They called in a second massage therapist to accommodate our request for a couples massage. The room was clean, but the best was the view of the rain forest! M
Curious monkeys performed outside the wall of windows, along with various colorful birds. I had a facial while waiting for the second therapist to arrive, then they brought my husband in, he relaxed the minute he was brought into this tropical paradise! Amazing!
The staff was very nice, spoke little English, but it didn't seem to be a problem getting what we wanted.
They even allowed us to leave our vehicle in their secure parking while we walked the state park!
The pool and grounds looked clean, the rooms we saw were beautiful and the views from the rooms were extreme!

Room Tip: Views looked great from the rooms we saw.
