At 50 and my first time white water rafting, I was nervous to be doing this alone. My husband couldn't join me on my trip to Costa Rica. I felt very comfortable from the start. We set off with two rafts and three individual kayaks. 9 other tourists joined us. My guide, Mel, was warm and friendly and made us novices feel good about our contributions during the rafting. He always thanked us for our good work after each section of rapids. Mel's instructions were clear and easy to follow and he kept us safe while still providing thrilling, wet rides. Ken, the other guide gave us all safety tips before embarking that covered possible unintentional swimming. Luckily my swimming was at the end of the ride and fully intentional. Orlando, the safety kayaker, went in advance to scout the river and to set up for picture taking. The pictures were great and I can tease my husband with the great experience he missed. Part way through the trip we paused at an incredible waterfall to swim and play around and then take light refreshments provided by Quepoa Expeditions. Our safety was their highest concern even during this side trip. A delicious lunch was provided at the end in a charming open air restaurant. Thanks Quepoa Expeditions (Brad, Mel & Co.) for the most fun I've had. I hope to do it again soon. MJ
