“First rate family adventure in Costa Rica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

During our recent family vacation to Costa Rica, we spent our first and last day of vacation with the guys from Quepoa Expeditions and the experience was first rate. Brad was extremely helpful in getting things set up with my wife via e-mail in advance of our visit and the rafting guides (Zack, Nacho, and Scottie) were fantastic during both trips. We did the Savegre on Day #1 (beautiful scenery, some nice rapids - good for beginners) and then tackled the mighty Chorro on the last day of our trip (all I can say is 'wow!'- what a thrill ride!!). I can't say enough good things about the guys from Quepoa - we will definitely be back to visit our new friends for another "Pura Vida!" river adventure (or two).

“A taste of adventure, kid-friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

My husband has done one or two river rafting trips before, but my 9-year-old daughter and I were new to it. We all had a complete blast!
Brad and his team have a wonderful blend of confident skill and safety consciousness, with a relaxed and fun-loving attitude. I felt very comfortable with them right away. They seemed to genuinely love rafting and enjoy being with people.
We floated the Savegre River, which is the gentler river that they do, reasonably safe for kids 8 and up. It's a well-paced river, with rapids seemingly evenly spaced between lovely stretches of calmer water. The rapids were exciting for us, and we definitely got soaking wet even though we (fortunately) never tipped over.
During the calmer stretches, we could jump out and swim alongside the raft, enjoying the scenery and catching glimpses of titi monkeys, toucans and egrets. The guide told us when we were passing a vanilla orchid plantation, and we could actually smell vanilla. The stop at a waterfall is memorable--my daughter loved watching the fishes jump in the pool as she swam around. In fact, she loved the whole thing. Probably the rapids the most.
With children over 8: You know your kid--our daughter is a calm, cautious sort, so we knew she would obey the safety rules. The first rapid is real enough so the kids know the rules are there for a good reason. Bring an extra snack if your child gets cranky when he/she is hungry. (The guides do provide a little snack at the waterfall; also the van stops on the way at a tiny shop where you can buy some chips or fruit.) She is an okay swimmer, but we didn't worry since she had a life vest and helmet on the whole time (as we all did).
It was a wonderful taste of adventure for our family, and I can't wait to come back to try the other rivers. Or the Savegre again, as it is so beautiful. Brad said it is the cleanest river in Costa Rica, and I believe it.
Do bring some dry clothes to change into afterward (you can safely leave them in the van, as the driver stays with it the whole time). Then you can relax while you devour an amazingly delicious meal at a local "soda" (included with your excursion! cool!) with all your new friends. I loved how the restaurant was very rustic (gravel floor, corrugated metal roof), yet clean and charming with tablecloths and flowers on the table set up for us.

“Fantastic day, so good we are going back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

We rafted the savagre with Zach and Nacho. They were very saftey focused yet made it fun for us, and we had great conversation along the way. Beautiful scenery (yet no wildlife). Pretty easy, class iis and some iiis, it is the dry season. My 16 year old tried a kayak for the first time and it was the perfect river and guide to do that, he loved it. Be prepare for a jostling bumpy ride to the river, but it is part of the experience and is worth the ride!

“Incredible float trip, highlight of our Costa Rica adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

We did the Chorro River trip with Quepoa earlier this week and had a great time. Brad took some incredible pictures for us (absolutely worth the extra money). Zack was a great guide, very personable and fun. Even though this section of river is class IV & V we always felt safe. Always a spotter in a kayak ahead of us to watch for trouble and help out as needed. Scenery was spectacular.

“Very Safety Focused and Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

My wife and I did a 2 hour white water rafting trip down the Chorro River today with our guide Scotty and our safety kayaker Ronnie. It is a rough drive (terrible roads) for 45+ minutes up the mountain from Manuel Antonio in a bare basics van but the guide is extremely social and makes the time go by with casual conversation. Once you get to the drop in point, the guide changes from social conversation to extremely safety focused and gives a detailed safety speech. Once you drop in the water you have 90+ minutes of extreme white water rafting with many rocks, drops, and action. We absolutely loved it but would only recommend this particular trip to those in great shape who are looking for an extreme rafting trip... not good for kids, older folks, or those scared of potential danger. Scotty (the guide) had to get out of the raft several times in very extreme rapids to help dislodge the boat (and keep us from flipping over) and Ronnie (the safety kayaker) was very busy watching out for us to make sure we did not get hurt if we were to fall out or flip. We made it down the 6 mile river without flipping/falling out but other boats on coming down at the same time were not as lucky (although after the fact they said that flipping over was pretty fun since nobody was hurt). After the rafting trip the guide offered us the chance to go to a local BBQ Rib restaurant (an old man who cooks ribs in his back yard)... it was a local hangout and amazing. Quepoa is amazing and the best value I have found for any vacation excursion in a long time.
